The chances of visiting a Subway at least once in a lifetime are pretty high. Whether trying to find something fast to eat and stumbling upon the green and yellow signs quickly and efficiently dealing with your hunger, or searching for hangover relief—this sandwich palace seems to always be nearby when you need it. And it’s run by the glorious sandwich artists, toasting your bread, spreading the tuna mayo and complementing everything with scrumptious chipotle sauce.
It’s no surprise that out of all the fast food chains out there, Subway has a dedicated community on Reddit with 16.2k sandwich artists—talking, sharing, and loving (as well as hating) everything to do with the birthplace of your footlong chicken teriyaki dreams.

So true... My cousin worked as an employee at Subway, and she had so many people who demanded to have an order before the store closed. And I mean 5 minutes before it closed

Subway adds spinach like it's a garnish. I always request more, and they add one or two more leaves like it's gold leaf.

Having worked in electrical retail, I find is hard to work out why some customer felt the need to share random bits of information about their lives or themselves with someone they've never met before.

Every restaurant worker deserves to be paid enough not to rely on tips

Subway workers don't rely on tips, they just appreciate it. You aren't obligated, they get paid minimum wage

Shouldn't have to tip for counter service. I remember when tip jars were not the norm. Shouldn't have to tip for wait service, either. Both should be paid a decent wage.

Or realize shits broke so giving a 5 or 10 that won't send you spiraling into bankruptcy actually helps. Or keep being bitter.

And I thought those lyrics in the B.o.B. song Airplanes ("trying to get a tip at subway") were nonsense. Subway workers really do expect to be tipped?!?

Yeah, in America most fast food employees don't get paid enough without tips. Even some sit down restaurants have 3-4 dollar an hour wages which is nothing.

Tipping is stupid and the U.S. needs to do better to pay people proper wages.

You are right, they do. But untill they start, support the worker; give them a tip.

Let's do away with tip jars. Tip jars are generally put out in places that already pay the workers at least min. wage. If you put a tip jar out, you put the customer in an unnecessarily uncomfortable spot.

Tips are for servers, though, because they make quite a bit less than minimum wage. No one tips at McDonald's or Subway, because y'all are already making minimum wage.

I haven't been to Subway in years. When did it become a custom to start tipping them? I've seen this in a handful of restaurants that only do take-out (even pre-pandemic), but I've never heard of it at a chain store. I take that back - Starbucks has tip jars. But that's the only other chain place I can think of that encourages the customer to tip.

Tipping is for servers (and bartenders) who make quite a bit less than minimum wage, though. No one tips at McDonald's, so why would they tip at Subway. Y'all already make minimum wage.

They generally don't, they just have a tip jar. So that's totally optional.
