And while I'd like to know what kind of bad science fiction books they’re reading, this subreddit r/NotHowGirlsWork gives them a proper treatment in what they deserve: being put in their place and told to cut their BS statements!

In case men are curious. It is uncomfortable, can be painful, and for a lot of women who have been assaulted, it is downright traumatizing.
Some time ago, we also spoke about so-called nice guys with counsellor & psychotherapist Tati Silva, who said that a man who is physically less attractive tends to compensate by being nice to be able to connect to people. However, Silva said they will overcompensate with over-the-top behaviors. "The nice guy will use all the tools to charm the person they are interested in. However, if it is not replicated, the nice guy's true colors come to light," the psychotherapist explained.
It turns out that a nice guy also has a sinister side. “In the mind of the nice guy, the person he is pursuing should repay his action by becoming his girlfriend or boyfriend; for him, that is how these things work. The nice guy will lash out if he does not get what he wants, which might be indirectly influenced by misogynistic entitlement complexes."

According to Silva, misogyny occurs unconsciously and it usually can be linked back to hatred that forms early in life, often as a result of a trauma involving a female figure. But like everywhere, there are exceptions and the psychotherapist warns that “this doesn't apply to everyone.” “There are genuinely nice guys and girls out there who will be okay to be put in the friend zone, respecting your opinion. They won’t expect anything back,” she concluded.

Many women make themselves look nice FOR THEMSELVES, or for other women and perhaps some gay men (and some straight men too). I'd love to color my hair in rainbow colors, but at 52, I feel a bit old. Perhaps when I'm even older I will care even less what others think of me, and go ahead and do it anyway.
I'm in my 40s and change my hair color any time I get bored with it. I'm looking forward to my 50s since I'll have more silver hair then and it will be easier to bleach and rock pastel colors. Go for it and have fun! You don't have to do your whole head, do the bottom layer a fun color. Bonus of doing that you have to purposely show the color. The Mrs has lovely red hair that she highlights depending on the time of year. A little pink for Valentine's Day, green for St Patty's, redder and white for Canada Day and a bit of green and red for Xmas because that's what she does. I like it, but I know that if I did not, she would not care.

I have a theory that our toxic competitive social structure helps to create this issue. People are like this because they are incapable of self reflection and assuming blame for their own short comings. But why are so many of us so bad at self reflection? I think it is because we are made to be hyper competitive as soon as we start school. Admitting any sort of flaw makes you less desirable and less competitive, but being incapable of self reflection and self improvement makes your value dramatically decrease. Insecurity and fear of personal flaws seems to be the underlining cause of half of these posts.
And all the over-scheduling of our kids! From the time they wake up til they go to bed - go to school all day, then soccer/football/swimming/piano/dance/gymnastics/whatever, all while eating fast food in the car between practice/lessons/games & trying to do homework...no down time, no peaceful family dinners, no 'alone' time, no relaxing with a good book. It's sad.
