Not everyone is born a driver, but the majority of the population just suck it up and learn to drive whether the hard or the easy way. But in reality, a driver’s license doesn’t protect you from road rage, dangerous situations, or reckless behaviors that happen way too often.
So this list from Bored Panda serves as a crucial reminder to keep our eyes on the road for any bizarre, unexpected, and plain dumb sightings. Like this crazy person who drives cross-legged or this driver who holds a plate with a fork in what seems to be a fancy rendezvous dinner while driving.

The national survey known as the 2021 Travelers Risk Index on distracted driving showed some illuminating findings on safety on the roads in the US. Luckily, one in four drivers thinks that roads are safer today than they were before the pandemic. However, alarmingly, a growing number of respondents reported using their mobile devices in unsafe ways while driving, including:
- Texting or emailing (26%, up from 19% pre-pandemic).
- Checking social media (20%, up from 13% pre-pandemic).
- Taking videos and pictures (19%, up from 10% pre-pandemic).
- Shopping online (17%, up from 8% pre-pandemic).

You don't know Germany: the principle of ''acquired rights'' lets you keep your driver's license until you do something that REALLY proves your incompetence. Not sure this counts.
In the US people over a certain age can take a drivers test for insurance discounts
Samantha Lomb: I looked into that "discount". You have to take a course, it can be in person or on line, you have to pay $20-$30. The course is about four hours and you have to take it every 3 years ( depends on the ins co I guess) and WHOA!!! for all that BS they give you a $20 reduction on your premium ( per year) Let me invest that savings, I'm gonna be rich.

My great grandmother went through a grocery store wall a few years back… they took away her license after that. She is now 97 and healthy as someone her age can be! (She was 89-ish at the time of the incident)
The German lwa drives me nuts. My parents were a menace on ther road. They just refused to stop driving. Only recently, my mom had fainting spells and FINALLY a doctor sais, she can'T drive anymore.

Or at least a second eye exame. I would say at least every 5 years if not every year. My Mom drives like crazy sometimes.
Sadly it's not just caused by eyesight issues - often memory lapses where they forget which is the correct pedal. I've seen this a few times unfortunately and that's been the cause every single time.

in america, your driver's license expiration date changes the older you get, so you have to take the test more often. (teenagers also don't have long before theirs expire)

I would lay odds most of the other accidents in this article are not elderly.
The day you turn 60 and every 5 years after you should be retested for basic vision, hearing and reflex capacity. Elderly people will complain like we're taking their rights away but in asking for like 20 minutes once every five years to keep people safe. You already have to spend 6 hours once every three years to keep your insurance rates low.
This is a huge issue in Florida. Everytime a politician mentions forcing the elderly to have to retake the drivers test after a certain age, they all freak out and threaten to vote them out of office. So it never happens. And accidents involving seniors here is absolutely staggering.
Florida: For the younger drivers,(15-24) there were a total of 16 deaths and 520 injuries, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The older drivers (75-89) suffered 14 deaths and 181 injuries.

This topic proves again what I've been saying for years now: include a psychological evaluation and an IQ test in the entire process of getting a drivers license. Just too many fools get a license to endanger the public with a 2 ton killing machine.
I hate it to drive a car. Even if everyone drives careful, sober and prudent and all cars are maintained very well, suddenly out of nowhere 'POOF' there is a wasp in your or the car behind you frightening the driver. Or a deer on the street, or or or.. From one second to the next, your life can change completely or just simply stop. It's naive, but I just hate it!
I was taught to drive 'defensively' and it's saved me from a few crashes I'm sure. It basically means you assume every other car on the road doesn't know it's road rules. So if they are indicating, don't go out in front of them until you see them actually turning. Same for people who are meant to give way to you: be prepared for them to come out in front of you anyway. I even used this on my full licence test, on a roundabout and a car pulled out onto the roundabout as I approached it. I was able to stop in time, but the guy next to me testing me went white and shouted out the window at the woman :D I think he was pleased with my driving after that seeing as I avoided a huge risk

I have epilepsy and don't drive, but there are many people with active seizures who do. Such idiots who aren't drunk, aren't doing dumb things with their cars, just knowingly doing something that could cost people their lives.
