I'm Matteo and I'm a professional photographer. I've always been fascinated by the beauty of birds.

In 2013 I decided to go in search of a Concincina as a pet for my studio garden in Milan. That's when I met Giorgio, a farmer who invited me to an aviary exhibition.

That very same day, the Concincina hen Jessicah (cue Unchained Melody) stole my heart.

My friend and work partner Moreno joined me in this passion/madness and we started to take pictures of literally hundreds of chickens and roosters.

Just look at them. They are beautiful. And they know it.

Eventually, we ended up with enough material to think about publishing a book. That's why we just launched a Kickstarter campaign.

I've seen a chicken like this before, I LOVE the way the feathers are all disheveled. These guys are cool.

Just wondering why, but it looks as if these were shot with only one light and it's positioned almost directly above. I love one light work and it can be beautiful, but some of these bird's most interesting features (eyes, face, legs, etc )are hidden in shadow.

That is either a Sultan or a Russian Pavlovskaya. I have 4 Russian Pavs and they are great birds. I have little white female named Ivanka and everytime I go into the pen She is waiting to be picked up. My rooster Ivan looks like a cockatoo and a eagle mixed together.

The breed is "Sultan", it's a breed all it's own - not a cross. It was originally developed in the Ottoman Empire hundreds of years ago.

Looks cool, but makes me sad that we have bred chickens to have all these extra feathers on their feet and legs of a type that would only cause them problems. :\
