This Study Found The More Children A Woman Has, The Slower She Ages And Moms Everywhere React With 28 Epic Responses

Mom-Coms like Workin Moms,’ The Letdown, and SMILF are a somewhat recent genre that highlights the less glamorous reality of motherhood and they are resonating with moms everywhere. The sleep deprivation, lost social life, milking yourself like a cow and coming back to work – it is a fulltime job they aren’t getting paid for. Which is why a recent study from Simon Fraser University study that suggests that ‘having more children slows down the aging process,’ and it had moms everywhere laughing through their tears – but one woman had the perfect response.

The study was published in Science Daily and was based on the examination of DNA strands in mothers. The researchers suggested in the paper that “the number of children born to a woman influences the rate at which her body ages,” and the results were positive. They found “women who give birth to more surviving children exhibited longer telomeres. Telomeres are the protective tips at the end of each DNA strand and are indicative of cellular aging. Longer telomeres are integral to cell replication and associated with longevity.”

Head researcher of the  Pablo Nepomnaschy project realizes that the results contradict life history theory, which predicts more offspring accelerates biological aging, and says the telomere effect could be a result of estrogen, which dramatically increases during pregnancy. “Estrogen functions as a potent antioxidant that protects cells against telomere shortening,” he explained.

Managing Editor and Snapchat Discover Lead Producer Maria Guido, published her reaction as an article:

“A 2016 study claims having more children makes women age slower and just,

HA HA HA HA

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!”

As you can imagine other mothers’ shared Guido’s feelings and came up with some pretty hilarious responses of their own

And pointed out a key aspect of the study that could explain a lot

One commenter shared some proof that maybe there was something to the science

While there is something to be said for science, there are multiple other scientific studies that support all the hardships that come with having kids such as, workplace bias, earning less money as a mother, deterioration of friendships, sleep deprivation, marriage problems and even a decrease in overall happiness.

But the lows come with highs, happiness researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky explained to Time, her study on the happiness of parents vs non-parents found that while in some cases non-parents were happier: “all types of parents reported having more meaning in life than did their childless counterparts, suggesting that the rewards of parenting may be more ineffable than the daily highs (or lows).”

Well the study shows that women with more children have longer telomers (the part of the dna that protects the cromosomes from damage). It is true that short telomers cant protect the cell from degeneration, the tissues do not repair well and they dont work as they used to. That might me true. However there are more things that can make a person "age" such as stress, lack of nutrition, diseases, injuries etc. Maybe women with many children age faster because of all of this despite having longer telomers.

I thought the longer telomeres thing, if true, it's probably a natural system of protection of the female body, to help her heal or deal with the damages and stress, to survive. So, it's not about being in advantage, it's more about balancing out for the sake of survival of the species. Well, that's my own conclusion, could be wrong.

Well, the only reason they came up with that result is because women with no children are too busy having fun than to participate.

That so-called study mentioned the women whose dna they examined had good social support. That’s the key thing. So many women in this world have little to no support, so they will age horribly. In other words, better looking moms might be in the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, where their country gives them plenty of actual free services to them and their children (free great education including college, free decent health care, adequate paid parental leave, a safe environment where a woman can live safely, which would make her stress less and that would help her look better). Anyway, vegan women (or women who consume minimal amounts of animal products) seem to age gracefully even without having any child. At the end of the day, I rather deal with what makes me age rather than bring a child into this lousy, horrific world, where racism, nationalism and sexism still exist. Quite a shallow study that could very well be funded or conducted by some pro-life people.

In less atomized societies, mothers were child bearers, but not the primary child caretakers. That's what extended family and social network are for! Mothering alone is an insane Victorian invention.

The study didn’t even say that they look younger though. Just that their cells replicate easier and they may live longer because of it I guess. Nothing mentioned about the participants or variables. Take it with a grain of salt.

Exactly! all these mums whining about how raising kids is lterally the most difficult thing ever, when the study is about the ends of DNA. It has nothing to do with how exhausted you feel.

Why have kids if everyone complains how hard it is? From the article: "While there is something to be said for science, there are multiple other scientific studies that support all the hardships that come with having kids such as, workplace bias, earning less money as a mother, deterioration of friendships, sleep deprivation, marriage problems and even a decrease in overall happiness." Doesn't seem like kids improve your life

We have never had children and we both get assumed to be younger than we are, i'm 39 and get told i look 30 all the time, my wife is 35 and gets 27-28 and i put that down to not having any children. Friends my age who have kids look worn down and tired a large chunk of the time. Not saying it is the reason but i'm sure it must play a role.

It isn't just this one study, women with multiple children on average live longer and report being happier in their old age. Might feel like small consolation as four kids scream in your ears for attention, but the stats say you are on to a long term winner (yay, go you).

My mom has 5 of us. As we all grew up and left home to pursue a more independent lifestyle, as it just happens by nature, and as she retired, she said she's feeling rather lonely. So I'm not sure about the happiness part. It all depends on the individual.

That might actually be a factor. Women with slower aging processes staying fertile longer and therefore having more time to reproduce.

So now we're laughing at actual science, because these days it's trendy for moms to complain about how hard it is to raise kids? (I know it is hard to raise kids, but the way people over-complain about it makes it seem joyless, so you wonder why hey had them in the first place).

My kids keep me young, but you can't see that on the outside. One friend said: is that your grandma? Whaaaaaa??? No way that's your mom. Hey young man! Science says I look young.

What's hard to believe about the fact that accomplishing a gender specific primary life goal makes one a healthier person? Is this really new news?
