Teacher Asked Third-Grade Students A Simple Question And Their Answers Will Break Your Heart
Kyle Schwartz, a third grade teacher from Denver, Colorado, cracked the code and unlocked the secret stories of her students’ lives. 92% of the pupils at Doull Elementary School rely on a subsidized lunch program, just one sign of the hardships they face. But Schwartz discovered that no money for lunch was the least of these children’s problems: many struggled with the lack of a parent at home, bullying, and stress about their marks.
Schwartz asked her students to answer the question, “What do you wish your teacher knew?” and to submit their notes anonymously. What they wrote will surprise you.

Excellent. The best way to get into the soul of our precious children is to know and understand their trouble.
How good is that? Congratulations class on having a wonderful and understanding teacher.
We need a penpal program for kids to kids to make friends! I want that kid whose lonely to have a friend!
Only because of the choices their parents make. Kids always pay the price.

oh so touching..we all just go about life and assume everyone is okay, sometimes children r the greatest at putting on the happy face...
I hope all teachers are sensitive and really doing their jobs like her..It would be a better world :-)
I honestly started crying. There are so many things that those kids would probably not have been able to say out loud out of fear. I really do understand how they feel
Our public education system is failing the children who could have been our future leaders, researchers, doctors, educators and inventors if only they were given the chance to focus on their studies rather than worrying about everything else. We can finance an out-of-control military empire and waste billions of dollars that would quite literally be better spent just setting it on fire in a big pile, but we can't tend to the needs of our own people? We call ourselves a First World nation, but can't/won't provide for our citizens?
This teacher is awesome. More schools should do this. I feel so bad for the students and wish I could give each of them a hug.

I wish Americans would stop living in this crazy rose tinted world that they live in the best country in the world.
Better yet, those who enter illegally should stop living in this crazy rose tinted world that they are illegally living in the best country in the world and work on making their own countries the best in the world. That would put an end to all this unnecessary nonsense, and the kids, the innocent parties in all this, wont have to suffer anymore. How about that?

That's a great first step... but I hope she does something with all of that information.
Did the students know that their notes were going to be put on a notice board for public display?
I think she's a really great teacher. Others may think differently and that she's nosy. As far as I'm concerned she's doing her job !.
I'm broken hearted. Those are just children, and some of them have problems most grown ups don't.
I wish the world knew that we need more teachers like Ms. Schwarz
May God forbid it! Liars and deceitfulness are not needed!

Commenters, do you know what your problem is? You're appreciating teacher but doing nothing about children with no pencil.
For third grade, these kids do not write or spell very well. What kind of standards do they have there???
They may only get to practice at school and not at home because it seems like a lot of these kids don't have what they need.
