Artist Turns Stretch Marks And Other Body “Flaws” Into Stunning Art, But Not Everyone Finds It Beautiful

Stretch marks, scars, and even menstruation are all things women are routinely told to hide, but one Barcelona-based artist is turning these supposed flaws into beautiful new ways to appreciate the female body.

21-year-old Cinta Tort Cartró, who goes by the pen name Zinteta on social media, does it all with rainbow paint and glitter. Her colourful depictions of stretch marks, period blood, and the female anatomy aim to foster self-love in the hearts of girls who may feel ashamed of their bodies. Cartró’s creative awakening was inspired by her own difficult path to self-love, which makes the message of her work all the more powerful.

“Stretch marks are part of our essence, our moments, our lives, our stories and us,” Cartró writes on Instagram. “To accept all this is to accept your roots, your history, everything in it and, after all, accept yourself.”

Experience this amazing project for yourself below, and tell us what you think in the comments.

Don't like period stuff personally. Also don't like people attempting to make me feel guilty about not liking period stuff, or that society as a whole has conditioned me to not like period stuff like I'm some gullible sheep and everyone else is more 'woke' than me. Let me take credit for coming to the personal conclusion that periods are gross and I don't like them. Also Jesus dude if your periods are that explosive, I think medical assistance may be in order!

As a nurse, and someone who has the problem....do you have any how many women suffer from heavy periods. If you don't, lucky you. I actually have severe anemia now due to it. The doctors are pushing me to have a hysterectomy. So, am I supposed to feel disgusted with myself or something due to this condition. Should I feel "unclean? Hate to break it to you, but you are kind of sheeplike or behind the times. Maybe you should have been born when they banished women into the woods during their period. Really hope you don't have children to teach this attitude to. Enough males are still squeamish that they can't even purchase period supplies for their significant other.

I've had stretch marks since early puberty - breasts and hips and legs - and never got the big deal tbh. I don't feel less pretty, or less attractive. The only one who ever made a comment was some b****y girl whose opinion I didn't hold in particular high regard. The tattoos would make them stand out more, though they are colourful and look kinda cool, but it's not for me! The period stuff... I dunno, just looks like coloured underwear to me. I've seen weirder s**t.

Agreed. My brother went through a massive upward (stretch marks aren't limited to weight loss or gain don't forget) growth spurt when he was younger and still has a lot of horizontal stretch marks on his back. He was very self conscious about them while they were still red, as they were big and deep. He looked like he had been 'striped' (beaten with an edged weapon) or whipped. I don't think male stretch marks are given enough of a spotlight or talked about in the main stream.

Love the colors! I remember my first day in middle school, I had my period and unfortunately it leaked. I was so embarrassed coz everyone is a new face, I don't know most of them. I was scared to think that they would always remember me in that situation. ;(

There's nothing unhygenic about glitter paint on underwear. The period itself may not be terribly hygenic--it IS waste disposal--but the celebration? What's unhygenic about that?

Decorum is defined by society and thus changes with it. If you mean "as women do we have any sense of draconian Victorian pseudo-virtue left" the answer is no, and we shouldn't, because those were oppressive and sexist standards. Whether or not periods are gross has literally nothing to do with "decorum."

It is gross no matter how you wish to glorify it to make yourself feel better. P**s is gross, s**t is gross, periods are gross. Yes, all are natural, but does that mean you glorify s**t? NO! It's still f*****g poop! And your period is still f*****g blood and lining. Makes great natural lube, can easily be washed off, but that doesn't mean I want to play with your used Tampons and paint.

I've never known a guy who wouldn't buy a tampon for their gf. Sure, kids will make fun of you in school if you bleed through your clothes, but then they will make fun of you if you fart or burp too. Bleeding and getting your DNA where it shouldn't be, is not attractive and it doesn't matter if the blood comes from your vagina or a cut finger. But we put unicorn and rainbow band-aids on a finger so why not have glitter panties? Women have been oppressed for so long, we've forgotten that our bodies are what they are. They do what they do and we are miraculous. The patriarchy will tell us we are less in every way they can. So, tell them we are what we are, in every way we can. Times are changing and that tired BS needs to go.

what happened to civilization? about some sacred things in life like our bodies and it's fonction for a big one??? I do not feel the need to expose the fact that my body bleeds every month, there is absolutely no purpose for the exposure masquerading as IT"S NATURAL, IT"S OKAY!!! no it is not for the majority of us, no one wants to see or think about these things unless we have to, the same reason they have beaches for only nudists, so the majority of us who do not want to see all the ageing bodies and other things of that nature don't have to. it's called being civilized. as for the stretch marks , well what happens as one age? the skin gets looser right?

I had given up on cellulite and my uneven wrinkly scarred tummy after two pregnancies and was seriously contemplating a tummy tuck. My friend told me about Dermal.MD anti cellulite serum as I was about to make my tummy tuck appt, and said to try it first. So one month later here I am, I’ve been using it everyday and am seeing results as shocked as I am! The results are so good that I’m not going to get the tummy tuck and I’m just going to keep using this as I believe it’ll give me the results I’m after!

I like the Dermal.MD anti cellulite serum, it goes on smoothly. I usually use this oil in conjunction with Coolife Fascia & Cellulite Blaster Remover Muscle Roller. I put the oil on right after the shower and roll away with the muscle blaster. I saw a noticeable different in my cellulite dimples. My legs were tighter & smoother. I also use this oil alone without the blaster & I believe it still does the trick❤️❤️

Stretch marks are preventable. The secret ingredient is "Zinc". And "chelated zinc" is best because it is easier to absorb into the body. I learned this in the 80s from my body building magazine, Muscle and Fitness. One of my interior designer clients was pregnant with her first child, and I told her about this. By the time she delivered, she looked like she had swallowed a watermelon. After she delivered, I asked her about any stretch marks, and she didn't have a single one. I've told lots of pregnant women about this, and once they started taking "chelated zinc" on a regular basis they never had another stretch mark. It works! :D

Please don't advise pregnant women to take supplements without seeing their doctor and getting their approval. Many substances are dangerous during pregnancy, or dangerous in certain doses. Stretchmarks are related to hereditary factors as well as dynamic forces and so some women will get them no matter what substances they take, and others won't.

Bloody underwear is still disgusting!!! And nasty....And nothing to "celebrate"!! Unfortunately, that takes away from the message of celebrating our flaws!! Hmmm, the tattoos look nice and even the panties are "pretty", with the rainbow colors - I'd wear those. But there's one thing I don't understand: When people make 'Period Art' it always involves some sort of HEAVILY stained and/or completely ruined underwear/clothing. I'm 37, I think I know what I'm talking about (I, too, had some accidents.) but this is very exaggerated. From what I understand, Period Art is there to get rid of the stigma, prejudice, timidness that comes with it but that's not how it looks like every month. If you ruin your clothing and need to buy new underwear on the regular (even when you have very heavy flow), you're doing something wrong. (I apologize to those who feel offended, that was not my intention.)

I'm not particularly fond of the undies, but I would like to point out that I sincerely doubt the artist used underwear that were CURRENTLY soaked in blood. I feel that I have a very good chance of being right about this because paint does not stick to wet surfaces very well, and the colors are also very bright and distinctly not muddy with iron stains. Furthermore, while still-bloody fabric is decidedly unhygenic--HOW many diseases can be passed by contact with blood, again?--once you wash them, even if they're stained, they are no longer "unhygenic." Stains are not inherently unhygenic, or no one would ever be able to wear dyed fabrics without getting sick; the difference between a stain and a dye is whether you intend it to be there or not. Because blood stains on undies after they've been washed is no longer blood; it's literally an altered fabric, impregnated pretty much solely with iron oxide into the fibers themselves. Not disease-bearing, no DNA left. Just...a color.

Why are people so obsessed with period blood these days? Nothing you can do will ever make it glamorous.

Also, if our periods aren't a flaw, then why is it part of this exhibit???? Get it together!
