Dog Who Turned To Stone Was Afraid Of Human Touch, Now Demands Belly Rubs
This 5-year-old stray dog was so sick her faced turned to stone. When the rescue organization came to take her from the streets outside Athens, Greece after one woman posted a photo of the poor thing to Facebook, the dog made it almost impossible to approach her. Scared, she would run away at the sight of people coming too close. But the rescuers finally got her.
The dog, later named Petra which means “stone” in Greek, had to be treated for everything ranging from mange to an infection spread by bugs. “I don’t think she had ever been touched by a human before. Not even approached actually,” Save a Greek Stray shelter’s Valia Orfanidou told Bored Panda. However, the rescuers refused to give up and with every week Petra became more tolerant to them. “I could pet her before but she didn’t enjoy it – she didn’t understand what petting was about,” Orfanidou added. “But after a couple of months she started asking for it, and she now loves to have her belly rubbed – she actually demands that you do it!” Now Petra is healthy and ready to love and be loved, so if you’re from Europe and want to give her a forever home, you can contact the rescue at info@saveagreekstray.com.

What an amazing transformation! I can't bear to see animals in such a state of neglect or abuse, but sometimes when I know that they have received help I will click on the link just to see the transformation that love & healing has given them & this one is nothing short of miraculous. She looks alert & joyful, her ears are up, her fur is glossy & she is playing with others & being what she was born to be, a happy dog living a happy life. I hope she gets an exceptionally kind person to adopt her & to complete the miracle. I wish this for all abandoned & neglected animals. We need more places like this one & more people who think & care like they do. Thank you from the heart for being there & doing such wonderful work on these sad little animals <3 <3 <3

Congratulations on the wonderful treatment. Petra is a Kelpie - this breed combines Scottish collie + Australian Dingo. A Kelpie pup costs $1000+ because they are the world's best at controlling and mustering herds of any kind of stock. An 8 week old Kelpie pup can muster several sheep. Petra will try to round up anything - even cars!

Bad beginning...At first I got reminded of "The Thing" from fantastic 4,then I saw the after pic and was like WOW.. I WANN LIVE IN EUROPE :D
I've seen a few transforamtions of dogs that got lucky and a better life. This is one of the most impressive ones. If she's happy with her current life I wouldn't ship her to Northern Europe - especially not to a large city. While some rescues do well here, for others the massive difference is incredibly hard and they just stay stressed out. Great work on the side of the rescuers!!!
I feel sick to my stomach every time i hear stories about animals being abuse. it hurts me inside so much to see how cruel people could be to animals especially because they cannot talk.i always like to hear how an animal went from being abuse and homeless to getting rescued by whom ever found that animal.This goes out to every human being in the world who takes animals and then decide that they no longer want that animal PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, stop animal cruelty.just take that animal you have and you no longer want take them to your nearest dog shelter and give them the chance to getting a better home and safe and healthy life.PLEASE let's stop Animal Cruelty once again this hurts me and i am pretty sure it hurts those people who are animal lovers. Thank You.I am so happy this dog saved.
