Mother Couldn’t Stop Her Kids From Screaming On A Plane, So This Stranger Stepped In
Traveling with kids that are screaming their heads off is already annoying and stressful enough, but being in charge of those restless souls is a whole different story. A couple of weeks ago, Jessica Rudeen shared her living nightmare of a situation on a flight when her two children, a 4-month-old son and a toddler daughter, started crying and screaming. “I honestly thought we’d get kicked off the plane,” Rudeen said. The moment her daughter started kicking and screaming how she wanted to get off the plane, a stranger approached them in a totally random act of kindness and offered a helping hand. Todd, a Kansas resident, not only was helpful in dealing with the kids’ crying but also kept Jessica’s daughter, Caroline, busy and entertained throughout the flight. “By the end of the flight, he was Caroline’s best friend,” Rudeen explained and shared her pleasant disbelief of such good people existing. Scroll down below to read the full story that teaches that helping others and being kind goes a long way.

LOL I was just going to say, Todd probably (a) gets lonely traveling a lot for work or (b) is a Dad of big or now grown kids or (c) both. ;)
Load More Replies...I don't have any kids, but I'm sure it's SUPER difficult to travel with even one - let alone two - small children. I can't deny that I'm sometimes irritated by kids crying on planes (if the parent isn't trying to help them calm down - weirdly this does sometimes happen), but in this situation I would've tried to help too (had I been close enough). What a fabulous man this is.
Recently on my way back from Seattle to NY not a flight to sniff at....I encountered a new mom with a 10 month old travelling home from GERMANY to her home. Her flight hours were horrendious but her child a dream. I felt so bad for mom 's lack of sleep in the past 24 hour, both myself and our middle seat mate took turns with this adorable child so mommy could have at least a 30 minute nap. She had told us the chid had been so good during the whole flight....but WHO WOULDNT HELP HER? She was so tired. I just hope her next connection provided a HUMAN.
Totally admirable. Rate the guy big time. Personally, I'm good not having kids myself but get on well with them. Problem is, in this day and age I'd be terrified of a post to contrary about some adult, male stranger talking to a child and being accused of perversion. The world is so obsessed with the fact that men supposedly have an alterior motive either talking to women or children that we're all becoming increasingly insecure and paranoid (especially if we're gay, because people assume we're sexuality deviant). I remember a few years ago finding a young boy in tears because he'd separated from his parents in the Magic Kingdom, Florida. All you want to do is pick him up, hug him and tell him it'll be absolutely fine. But my partner and I were very strict on having "no physical contact" while one of us goes to find a member of staff because of the fear that someone will accuse us of abduction or assault. This is a lovely story, but there's reasons why not all good guys step in.
An embarrassed women stood in line ahead of me in a supermarket, trying to pay as her 2 year old screamed his brains out. I leaned over and told the kid, "If you stop screaming your mother will give you 5 dollars." He immediately shut up, but instead of his mother being grateful, he mother scowled at me for interfering! Did she really feel obligated to pay?
This has put a smile on my face for the first time in I don't know how long my faith in humanity has been restored
3-year old: I WANNA GET OFF THE PLANE Todd: Hey you like coloring? 3-year old: .....yes please
A wonderfully human act. A few minutes or hours of distraction can save a parent's sanity.
I've flown a couple of times as a father alone with my infant daughter (now 12). People are always quick to help a single traveling father, moms not so much. I try to make use of that privilege and now try to make traveling as easy as possible for moms and families. If a kid is behind me I always turn around and let the parents know that kicking or crying is all OK with me. It is my small gift to take stress about that away from them.
Usually I hate it when kids scream in public, and think to myself "just shut/him her up" but as a nervous flyer, I don't blame the child for screaming and being scared of flying is a very serious problem
This story made me get something in my eye.... what a great person Todd is for making a scared little girl feel safe and occupied, so Mommy could take care of little brother.... if I ever get on a plane and have the chance to do the same, I promise I will! I WILL NEVER forget this story, this lesson in compassion and lovingkindness!! And you don't have to bring god or religion into it, you just have to be a kind person. :-) Something I'm sure we could ALL work on!
Should have slipped the kids some sleeping pills just before the flight...
"Got her tablet". Please, just once check you out what a tablet/smart phone etc. causes in kids brain. Just once in a while. Not more. Thank you.
Very cool! Just wondering where "God's hand" comes in here...
