Guy’s Lunch Gets Stolen At Work So He Asks To See The Security Tape, Can’t Believe His Eyes
The communal office fridge can be an absolute minefield for work relationships. A site of countless crimes, passive-aggressive communication and disputes, it is unrivaled as a source of workplace drama, intrigue and conspiracy.
It’s no surprise then that while politicians and media around the world are furiously pointing fingers over the Skripal poisoning, without presenting a shred of actual evidence to support their claims, regular folk are gripped instead by a much more relatable affair. Who stole the shrimp fried rice?
Twitter user Zak Toscani narrated the tale in a series of hilarious tweets, beginning with the bombshell revelation that the victim of the crime had been given access to the security camera, and the lunch thief would be positively identified beyond doubt. Evidence. A smoking gun.
In a series of shocking updates, the mystery slowly unfolds and we discover that the culprit did not in fact even eat the stolen lunch. It was taken out of the fridge and thrown directly into the bin, buried beneath the trash as to remain out of sight. What can this mean? An act of revenge from a scorned lover? A militant vegan, protesting for shrimp rights? And what is an appropriate punishment for this seemingly psychopathic behavior?
So many questions, so much drama. “It’s been awesome,” Toscani told the BBC about the affair. “I think so many people have responded to it because everyone who works in shared office spaces have maybe encountered something similar.”
Scroll down below to see how it all unfolded and let us know what you think in the comments. Has your office fridge ever been the center of a similar mystery? Feel free to share your story!

I definitely wouldn’t buy her her own shrimp fried rice. WTH? No need to play games with people. Just confront the nutcase and give her a warning.
Load More Replies...I think they were having a secret love affair, and things had ended badly recently. When he found out who did it the last bit of compassion he had for his former lover was enough to save her job. She wanted revenge, and she got it.(had to come up with my own ending after that cliff hanger)
Not much revenge. The whole office knows she's a turd.
Load More Replies...If this actually happened it is unwise to let her get away with it. What will she do next.
Is everyone completely ignoring the fact that Lin-Manuel Miranda responded to this?
I speculate that she, liking shrimp fried rice, had ordered some at some point and put it in the same fridge. When she checked the fridge that day, she saw the box from the same shop and thought it was hers, that she had forgotten about it, and that old food shouldn't be left in the fridge, so she threw it out, making sure it was covered to decrease smells from the trash can as it sits before the can gets emptied. This seems like the most likely scenario given that it happened only once and she seems oblivious of the issue.
But she asked even "Oh, was it yours?". Why the heck did she not apologise?
Load More Replies...AGREE. Constantly staring at her, wondering, probably even judging, without even bother asking her why is gonna make things worse.
Load More Replies...Oh come on?????? Don't leave me hanging! I want to know the reason behind this cold blooded act.
This isn't a very exciting theory, but it's possible his comment about "maybe she doesn't know she did it" could be true. Perhaps she saw the container and thought "oh wow did I leave my leftovers from yesterday there all night? Gross!" and tossed it without checking to see if they were actually hers (maybe she was afraid it would stink if she opened it?). Who knows, but it is possible she's not a psychopath or seeking revenge lol :)
This is quite possibly the most unsatisfying thing I've read in forever!
I think this is also bad for her. You guys are looking at her with a hidden scarlet letter on her forehead, and she may not even know why youre looking at her that way. I think you should atleast ask her why she did it. Look at the other perspective instead of gossiping behind her back. Not making a serious communication bridge makes a gap between employees which creates a very toxic work environment.
I think I know what happened. At least, this is what happened at my workplace a couple of weeks ago: someone found a lunch in the fridge that looked just one they'd had about a week prior, and they were like "Huh? Didn't I eat this already? Oh well, I guess it's bad now!" and threw it out. But of course, it was someone else's brand new lunch. That person was pretty sad, and the one who threw it out felt really bad, but when it came out what happened everyone else laughed for hours.
lol... I love the way he tells the story. I have a similar story with an ending. I rarely cook during the week, but the night before I had put together a very healthy and beautiful salad which I was looking forward to have for lunch at my office. When I went to look for it in the office fridge it was not there. We are only four people in my office so was not going to be hard to figure out. I found out who had taken my delicious salad and I have to ask her. She had thrown away my salad thinking that it was food she had left in the fridge from last week!!!!! I felt like I was burning inside. This salad was very fresh and delicious. She didn't even looked at it or smelled it or anything!!!! I was so upset... my whole effort from the night before right in the trash. We end up laughing a little because she is distracted like that... the only good thing was she bought me lunch...and not a healthy one to make it up. :p
I have an opinion here.... (Mostly joking here) What psycho brings shrimp to an office setting to reheat in a microwave!!! I'm thinking thats why she tossed it, who wants to smell microwaved shrimp for the next 4 days?!?!? (Yes, I hate shrimp, and if this guy does this often I would have proudly tossed it, but would have done so very vocally haha!!)
If she'd had refused the shrimp offered by the Twitter, maybe. But not like this. If there was no malice, I'm betting on thinking it was her leftover
Load More Replies...I would have demanded her termination. There is no excuse for taking someone else's food. No warning, no suspension, just termination, and if the company refused to take that action? I would go to the police and file a theft report. Yeah, that's right! Steal someone else's lunch, dinner, etc, and you deserve the maximum punishment that can be meted out. Extreme? Then clearly, you have never been the victim of food theives.
why is BP recycling this 3y old article? geez, has the world run out of funny things?
Great, more wasted time reading something that had a terrible ending. I NEED CLOSURE DAMNIT!!! People being too passive aggressive to be upfront and say, "I know what you did Carol.... I seen footage of you dumping my food in the bin"... no no... just do nothing and blink through gritted teeth and allow it to consume your thoughts everytime she walks in the room. Let's face it, secret lovers quarrel. The end.
Why would you buy her free lunch? What the ever loving f*** is wrong with you?
nope, shrimp fried rice, she would be getting her pink slip / P45 if it was me, fire her thieving a*s
Why would someone just throw away another person's lunch? That's wasting food AND leaving an innocent human being to starve!
she saw it in fridge and thought oh s**t, thats my dinner from 2 weeks ago I forgot about that... threw it out then only realised it wasnt hers when she got the email and decided to keep quiet...??
She should get spoken to and humiliated. That's rude and uncalled for. I would never let her live it down. If I paid good money for my lunch and you threw it out, but it wasn't spoiled I will not only make you feel bad, but I will make sure everyone knows you're a f*****g b***h.
HR should have a private chat with this strange lady, and at least find out why she threw Zac's lunch in the bin. If she has no reason, she should at least be considered for psych revaluation. Could she damage the firm's standing with clients, if she simply harbors illogical grudges and unexplained actions?
I think she thought that it was hers that she had left in there, and thought "bugga, I gotta throw that so no-one knows it was my 'off' shrimp fried rice that stunk out the fridge", dumped and hid it in the bin and thought nothing more of it. As far as she is concerned, it was hers she threw away.
That's the problem about not just straight forwardly asking and sorting it out. If it was a mistake, she has the chance to apologise. If it was done on purpose, she has the chance to feel shame and learn not to ever do it again.
Throwing away good shrimp fried rice should at least be a misdemeanor, or maybe a lower class felony.
i need an ending! this must be how people felt before the internet and spoilers, they literally just had to wait for an answer, will it ever come? will we ever learn why? tune in next week, or never... arghhhh!!!!
My logic: - She loves shrimp rice - She provably have bough some before, several times and probably at the same place where the coworker bough them. - She went to the fridge, saw bag of i,t and though she might have left it the last time she bough some and that it should probably be rotten - She takes it out ant trow it without even looking at it
I have a colleague just opening my hand bag and eat my food in front of me or in my absence because: "He is hungry and he knows where the food is ". I gave up fighting after a while. The good part is that he makes up for it with drinks and chocolates all the time. I don't know why but he prefers my homemade food. I call him "hyena" and everybody knows what he does but here where I work HR is useless and these kind of complaints are nonexistent. Oh and when we travel for work together he pays for everything food or drink related so he is a good egg. As for this woman I'll go with personal revenge over something wrong she perceived from him. The fact that he didn't anticipated it makes me think that it's all in her mind OR she made an identity mistake
If she can lie about the fried rice without batting an eye, what else has she done? HR should be really worried...
I had my lunch "stolen" once and sent out an email basically saying that someone took my lunch from the fridge and tossed it in the trash and I just wanted my tupperware back. turns out the woman that did it honestly thought it was her lunch from the prior week and was just dumping it. people make mistakes.
I LOVEEEEEE FRIED SHRIMP RICE...THAT GIRL WOULD BE IN SERIOUS PROBLEM IF SHE DID THAT ME !!!
Simple Simon Says: OR you could just SHOW her the tape and demand an answer ...
He's done something much worse to her and she's getting slow burn revenge. They both know that if he escalates this she'll tell her story and he will be in trouble for a lot more than lunch theft.
I don't use the communal fridge at work for this very reason. I did once, and saw someone pawing the yogurt I bought, picking it up and reading it. I don't even want you touching my stuff let alone stealing it. so just bring a thermal bag and some ice. done.
What s**t ending is this. Why go HR if u r not going to follow through?
my question is WHO buys that rat lunch after what she just did? like. you know what happened and how trash that was. WHY FEED THEM AFTER THAT!!!>>???
When I walk into a book store most of the stories are fiction, and I very much enjoy reading them despite that.
