Dying Dog Chained For 4 Years Finds Forever Home, And This Is How Love Transformed Him
Meet Tom, the emaciated pooch who spent the first four years of his life being chained to a tree, not getting enough food and water. His cruel Alabama-based owner didn’t care about the dog’s health issues, ranging from worms to mange – or about the fact that the cute dog was seriously underweight, weighing less than 40 pounds at the time of his rescue.
Luckily, dog rescue groups heard about Tom and took him to an animal shelter for dog adoption in Minnesota, where he met his future owner. “I was drawn to him initially because he was one of a dozen or so dogs, and the only one not barking, whining, or jumping around,” writes Tom’s new ‘parent.’
When his current owner took the abandoned animal home, he sat at the entry for around two minutes. “I was concerned he didn’t have the strength after such an extended period of suffering animal cruelty to make it up the stairs. But eventually, he slowly made his way up into his new home.”
Tom was taken to the vet, who said the doggie had a fractured tooth and needed to undergo treatment for heartworm. However, Tom’s future is bright – today the pooch weighs almost 70 pounds, and is one happy family pet!

I just posted on this very topic yesterday. Why bother getting an animal, if you aren't going to take care of it. Or you decide you don't have time for it. Or your getting a new rug and they have to go or Im moving and can't take them with me. First of all Im not going to live where my babies aren't welcome. Im certainly not gonna choose a new rug over my baby. My babies will never be chained or kept in cages. There are places if you search that offer to help or free vet care. They ask nothing of you except love, care and food. And they give so much more back. As I said in my post the punishment should fit crime. You get what you give!

I hope he forgot all about his first four years in life. People are the worst.
They don't Brigitte. I read a study about a decade ago, that just adopting a dog usually requires five years before that little person ever feels completely comfortable and is itself. I adopted two shih-tzus in the mid 90s, and both of them were great little guys, but it took every bit of five years to fully reach their complete potential. You can give them all the love possible, and they seem to keep expecting the dream to come to an end. So they are emotionally on guard, just in case......................

We picked out our doggy for the same reason, she was quiet and not excited like the others. It turns out, she was very fearful and acts more like a cat than a dog. A year later, she has gained some confidence. I really hope that she too will blossom with a little love & care. But maybe not, cats are a******s.
The former owners should be prosecuted as if it was a human they did this to. Shows a heart just as callous in my opinion.
My parents' old dog was in the same situation for the first four years of his life as well, until someone stepped in and my parents adopted him. He lived a very healthy life of 17. Unfortunately that doesn't happen with most dogs; some are just left to suffer. That's the problem with the world today.
Beautiful boy. So lucky to be saved from a life of hell. People make me sick.
I hope he has the happiest life from this time on. And he can forget past and live for the future.
Question: Why get a dog/cat and not look after it? I will never be able to get my head around that question.
