Starter packs (sometimes also called starter kits) is a meme that's been around for nearly a decade.

It usually comes in a multi-panel photo set, illustrating the archetype of a celebrity, company, or subculture through their clothing choices and other consumer products, very similar to the classic "steal her look" fashion guides.

One of the reasons why the meme is still going strong is the subreddit of the same name. With 2.5 million members and thousands online at any given moment, there's a constant stream of new content.

From 'things I thought were huge problems when I was a kid' to 'me cooking anything', the amount of themes you can see on r/StarterPacks is amazing. However, niche posts usually don't get that many upvotes. "More relatable topics tend to get more likes as people can say 'Hey! That's me!'" the moderators of the subreddit told Bored Panda in a previous interview.

2020 has been a really good year for the community—the subreddit has grown by about 500k new members, and the moderators hoped it would reach 2 million in 2021 but it has surpassed that mark by an additional 500k!

"The Covid-19 Pandemic had a lot of people stuck at home and on Reddit. People wanting to look at memes about their current situation could be a major contributor [to r/StarterPacks popularity]," the moderators explained.

You may add: Things that many adults think are everyday dangers: "foreigners, socialism, vegan food, migration, etc." and then the "what is really dangerous starter pack: "malnutrition, lack of exercise, climate change, poverty, chronic illnesses, ..."

The starter pack meme really took off in 2014 when Twitter user ItsLadinaPlis posted the 'I date black guys' version of it.

According to one moderator of the sub, WaddlesJP13, that single post spawned a bunch of other starter packs, basically turning it into a household meme instantly, and leading to the creation of many forums and pages dedicated to the format, just like r/StarterPacks. "Somehow, the format [and the subreddit are] still really popular," they wrote. Pretty good for a meme!

Being a girl who's played games since the early 90s I can tell you that's so very true. Not all gamers are like that of course in fact the majority isn't. But the ones who complain about not having a "gamer gf" definitely are. They're usually the same ones who whine and shout when a 33 year old woman beats them.

This is actually true of all the Americans I personally know yet you wouldn't think so from reading the media.

but hating the USA is trendy so let's ignore this for now and also judge an entire persons existence by a bubble they checked on a voting form once in four years.

I take umbrage with the doesn't eat McDonald's every day pic. Ever hear of food deserts? Some people don't have a choice in the matter.

What terrifies me is "normal guy". Soooo many of these guys (and gals) are racist, bigoted and voted for Trump. They sit next to you at church and stand behind you at the grocery. But they hide it in plain sight.

A few years ago, I actually hung a rebel flag in my work area to keep a bunch of college students out. Worked great. My black nephews thought it was awesome funny. There's a whole backstory to this, and I'll spare you that. I'm not a racist, but will use anything available to maintain my distance from people who want to judge me on sight, lol.

Isn't *overtly racist. We all have implicit biases, and pretending only overtly racist people are the problem doesn't help.

Just 30% to 40% of Americans: eat fast food every day, are in fact obese, and totally support conservative ideals on race (denying racism is a problem is the problem). So, technically you are right, but this misses the point.

Studied for a couple of years in the US, I would say it was not average to meet genuinely good decent colleagues. Americans who claim this starter pack is true don't see how much of the opposite their fellow americans are.

That's true in some places in the US but most standard places have a whole bunch of average people like this starter pack says, the a**holes are just really loud.

About 1/4 -1/3 of Americans own guns. They skew male, white, Republican, and rural residentially. Additionally a good chunk of them are fairly well off. The average gun ownership is about 3 guns. Which makes sense if you hunt. About 3 percent of Americans own half the country's guns though.

NOPE! The 🍊🍄💩 got nearly THREE MILLION fewer votes than Hillary. It’s beyond time for us to abolish the racist, anti-democratic Electoral College and move to direct elections for president, just like every other single office in this country! Also, 60% of American adults are fully vaccinated and it jumps to 71% if you include those who have received their first shot and are waiting the requisite amount of time for the next one. Gun-ownership = 33% / living in a household with guns boosts it to 44%. TRY HARDER NEXT TIME!

Well statistically they would be either obese or overweight, only about 30% of people in the US has a healthy bodyweight or lower. But I get your point.

There is a lot of noise in that statistic. It's based solely on bmi which means a large number of fitness buffs, especially the men, skew this number.
