Son Of Cop Killed In Line Of Duty Receives Teddy Bears Made From His Uniform
2-year-old Malachi Snyder’s teddy bears aren’t just ordinary toys, because they’re made from the uniforms of his policeman father who was tragically killed two months ago while on duty in St. Louis, Missouri.
Police Officer Blake Snyder, 33, was fatally shot at close range by 18-year-old Trenton Forster after responding to a disturbance call on October 6th, 2016. His wife Elizabeth still hasn’t been able to explain to Malachi where his father is, but at least he’s got his bears to keep him company. They were made by a family friend as an early Christmas present, and each bear contains a very special message sewn onto its foot: one reads “love you always”, the other one “always with you.” They can’t replace Malachi’s father, but at least they’ll get to see the little boy grow up.

Not told in this story is more great news - - A dine-out event held on Nov. 1 in Officer Snyder's honor raised more than $175,000. More than 200 restaurants from around the region participated in the event. All of the proceeds from the event went to Backstoppers, a group that provides assistance to the spouses and children of severely injured first responders and those killed in the line of duty. Earlier this week, students from the Mehlville School District donated more than $12,000 to Backstoppers in Officer Snyder's name.
A St. Louis native myself, I am glad we are able to pull some hope out of all these tragedies that happen all around me.
