Guy Insults Canada, But This Girl Defends It With Some Truth Bombs That Get Over 1M Likes And Retweets
Canada is awesome. I know it. You know it. But one internet user obviously didn’t because he started insulting it. Twitter user fredsonora called Canadians moose-fornicators and even insulted their ham and curling! Those were some very low blows.
Luckily, Twitter user Sharlene, who goes by the moniker sfergs_, was there to step in to defend Canada. And she did this by explaining why it is one of the best countries in the world. The spat on Twitter occurred after Sharlene exclaimed that she was incredibly glad that her parents emigrated to Canada instead of the United States; fredsonora didn’t like that one bit, so he proceeded to verbally attack Canada.
Now, before proceeding any further, I’d like to say that I like Canada and the United States equally: I appreciate the former’s well-mannered people and stunning frigid landscape, and the latter’s passion for innovation and incredible national parks. Both countries have their pros and cons. However, emotions can get a bit heated where nationalities are concerned, and this ‘feud’ on Twitter is a perfect example of this.

Sharlene was on the warpath when she listed what she thinks are the reasons Canada is ‘better’ than the US. The Twitter user highlighted that one of the biggest positives the country has is free healthcare which she contrasted with the situation in the US.

However, the woman mentioned that Canada is far from perfect and she noted that her goal wasn’t to make Americans feel bad. Sharlene’s thread was wildly successful, getting more than 831,000 likes and being retweeted over 185,000 times.
Naturally, Canada is well known for its moose, ham, and curling, but that’s not all. The Top Tens writes that Canada is best known for several other things, chief among them being maple syrup, the Niagara Falls, and the tendency for Canadians to use the word ‘eh?’
Canada is also known as one of the safest countries in the world and the second-largest country in the world by area. And what is that area populated by? Incredibly friendly folks who are amazing at curling.

Medical care is not technically free. Nothing is free. Where does she think the money is coming from, thin air? It's called taxes and Canadians are taxed at a much higher rate than Americans...I have to agree about medication though. It really shouldnt be so expensive
Europeans are also taxed at higher rates. When my parents sat down with mom's American cousins to compare what they got for their money, the American relatives turned from outrage at the thought of my parents being allowed to keep so little of the earnings to disbelief at how it was possible that so much was covered. Healthcare in the USA is more expensive than anywhere else in the world. To me, it means that some sectors in America reap oversized profits, and that a lot of people are ruined financially or even die before their time because of it. I honestly do not understand why Americans accept this.
Because yes
Yes other countries pay higher taxes, so what? We don't end up with a 1.2m dollar medical bill.
Of course nothing is "free", but the taxation in the UK is not as massively different as you think. Anyone in the UK who earns up to about US$57,000 each year pays a basic rate of income tax at 20% from their salary- and the first US$17,000 of that is exempted altogether. True, most consumer goods have a general sales tax of 20% VAT. Some other commodities have specific taxes (e.g. petrol tax is one of the most expensive at roughly $2 per US Gallon). But at the end of the day all that taxation pays for a true "welfare" state. A system that provides universal healthcare system in which every single citizen can have their most complex health needs met according to their NEED, not their ability to pay.
It's NOT "taxes", health care is a separate line item on payroll deductions. It has NOTHING to do with Revenue Canada. When we moved to the States in 2000, we ran the numbers on taxes. By the time you add federal, state, city, and sales taxes, the numbers were IDENTICAL. When you add the cost of health care at $3000.00 per month, it was almost double. ...///... We are not a low income household. ...///... If we moved back to Canada tomorrow, we would be paying $135.00 a month for TWO PEOPLE for full health care coverage. No copays, no getting permission for treatment, no "in" and "out" of network garbage, no one asks for a nickel above your health insurance payments.
Yeah thats a load of crap on the taxes. Its not identical. Unless you are making $250K or more in the States, then the tax rate in the States is much lower.
This "it's not really free" thing is not as clever as you think it is. Canadians are not taxed at a much higher rate. (I have been taxed in both countries for the same job, same salary, during different years.) Our healthcare is far, far cheaper because its more efficient, and the cost is distributed across all of society instead of being paid for by individuals and employers. If Canada collectively spent as much per capita on health care as the US, we'd each have a personal GP. (Exaggerating! But not by much.)
your answer was not as clever as you thought
My insurance costs about $8-10K a year, on top of that, there's a $500 deductible, plus copays of at least $20 every time I see a doctor, usually more. Plus medications that insurance covers only some of, which put me out of pocket about $100 or more a month. And if I dare get cancer, I will easily be out of pocket tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, or more. I doubt my taxes would go up enough to equal that.
While Canada is pretty amazing, it is not without it's serious faults. As with any country. That being said I could name at least 10 countries I would move to before the states.
Serious faults of Canada: Prime Minister who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground (broken/unfulfilled electoral promises, lack of transparency, Liberal Party dissension, cultural appropriation...); Open door immigration policy (which is causing a widespread loss of Canadian identity); Public Healthcare ("free" healthcare does not exist - we pay for it with higher taxes. Often times those who require life saving surgeries/treatments are left waiting for months or years due to overcrowding at hospitals, lack of medical professionals, etc.); Electoral system - our method of indirect voting is ineffective. We are essentially required to vote for our local Member of Parliament in order to elect a new Prime Minister (but what if you can't stand your local MLA? Tough shit.); CENSORSHIP - Under Trudeau's regime we have seen the integration of "Hate Speech" laws, as well as gender identification laws, which effectively limit our right to free speech and thought... I could go on & on.
Please note that I am not saying I am for hateful/racist/phobic speech, however I completely support every person's RIGHT to free speech & thought. Once that starts to be eliminated, we begin to enter a very Communist type regime (where you are told what to think & say). Even the UN Declaration of Human Rights declares: "Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers".
Well it takes two seconds to figure out what party your voting for. Is it possible your opinion is biased? I personally dismiss anyone's political opinions if they are hard on either side of the spectrum.

Oh, you're a racist. And one who says, "I'm not a racist". You clearly are. Clearly. Everyone DOES have a right to say whatever the fuck they want, what they DON'T have a right to is to say it without consequence. And the consequence of your shitty racist rant is that people will call you a racist. And you're a giant liar. LIFE SAVING PROCEDURES DON'T WAIT WEEKS AND MONTHS. You're spouting American talking points. Go fucking move there already.

Yeah you seem like a real fun person to discuss anything with.
Hi.... dual citizen here. Most of the tweets contain half truths. Just sayin...
Yes, this seems like the sort of person I call "faux woke," who has read a bunch of scare news that's skewed to generate a click, then further skewed it herself to make a point. Is it worth making ACTUAL issues look like fairy tales, just so you can get Twitter points? "Hahahah you all suck" is not a productive argument.

Please cite said "half truths", specifically.
Healthcare isn't "FREE", it's paid for with our higher sales tax, and I'm okay with this, as a U.S. citizen with Canadian permanent residency, and having been on both sides.
How come when someone disagrees with what someone’s says they say cite your sources. But if it’s something they agree with like that twitter post they don’t ask any questions
Free healthcare. Whether you agree or disagree with universal healthcare, it’s not free. $50k student loans at 18. I don’t know any 18 year olds who have accrued that amount in student loans at 18. It just doesn’t do her argument any favor if she is going to state facts.
get used to not getting what you want
Lynda - Do you really want me to cite them or are you adult enough to take the time to research?
First off - before anything. Of course Canada. I love it - I also like our moose. They are cute. Hush. Now - with the whole America thing... it's a strange mixed blessing that you're so "large and influential" isn't it? As in yes... you get all the cred for being "powerful" and "noticed" etc. etc... unfortunately, that also means the handful of hateful, horrid individuals out there are the loudest and the MOST NOTICED (because they are loud and obnoxious) and they end up painting a horrible picture for everyone else to see... Also, as I've noticed "No no... American, as in individuals, a couple of awesome people you know? Great, beautiful, happy, willing to learn... it's when you get to the whole 'Murica as a mass glob of people' - that's when the bashable things come about.
I thought it was pronounced meese for more than one (kidding).
Yeah, agree, D. Pitbull. ANyone thinking only Murica/Americans are racist, violent, blah blah blah? Really not paying attention. In either country, IMHO.
Random people having random discussions about countries on Twitter. Why would this be reported? Just imagine, mere 10 years back some idiots have the exact same chat standing in an alley. Would anyone notice?
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
Unless you're in a TARDIS you couldn't fit 836k people in that alley. When word gets around like that it becomes newsworthy enough for you to click on it.
Well, because I click almost everything on BP, for they feature much nice content. People unsubstantiatedly fighting about the qualities of countries is slightly inferior to pictures of art and animals, and especially to wholeosme stories and funny stuff. Isn't it?
Why does something automatically qualify as newsworthy if enough people click on it? That's the worst possible scenario for journalism.
Is she stupid or maybe NOT gone to University or College?? YESS We Do have debt from school, NO ONE owes 50 grand at 18 because you would be around 22 when you finished a 4 year course and most of the ones that cost that much go 8 years. I know people in Alberta Canada who still havent been able to pay off their 5 figure student loans because they couldnt get a job in the field they went to school for
You dont need to go to university to be smart 🙄 As soon as u decide to go into university and have to pay for it.. your in debt (unless your in a very fortunate position where your parents can pay it all in one) so she is technically right about being in debt at 18, may just not be referred to as a student loan.
If you're going to spout off about intelligence, please at least learn the difference between your and you're. Yeesh,.
Hold up, it should be girl insults United State, petty online discussion results.
Wow talk about misguided first of all health care is not free we pay a lot in taxes in order to have it, we are not better than Americans, we have a lot more things in common than we care to admit, ther are over two million gun owners in Canada yes Canada, so we are not perfect, and clearly you know nothing of the hard work and dedication that people in law enforcement who are of all races and cultures, who protect our countries every second of the day, try looking closer, than just scanning the headlines
While I agree that we're not perfect, I don't think the gun issue is making your point very well. Yes, Canadians have guns. But gun owners are registered, educated on gun safety, and have frequent background checks. Our gun laws aren't perfect either, but our rate of gun violence is nothing but a positive for Canada. (5 gun homicides per million people per year vs 36; .032 deaths by mass shooting per million people in six years vs .089 - https://www.quora.com/How-does-Canada-compare-to-America-as-far-as-mass-shootings-go)
We pay a lot of taxes too. We STILL have the highest medical bills in the world and can lose our access to our insurance if the policy holder dies, divorces, or loses their job. On top of more than $10K a year, there are deductibles, copays, and lots of chances to get your claim turned down. Plus, if Trump and the GOP get their way, people with pre-existing conditions (like me) are totally screwed.
@Esca - Health Canada thinks of abortion as basic health care (as it should), so the various provinces cover it.
Ana, this was clearly a direct reply to Esca's question. It's really weird that you think it was directed at you.

That statement, "Abortions are free." I'm presuming you're Canadian so can you elaborate on that? I'm American and I am completely for the idea of women choosing what to do with their own bodies, but the way she worded it in the article makes it seem like you can just walk in and get an abortion any time... And I don't think that's completely good either... It sounds like a Plan C. I thought it'd be better to get an answer from someone who lives there. Update: Okay, I think I get the gist of it. American educational system in regards to sex-ed isn't good and honestly I would've expected a lot of people to presume that unprotected sex is the way to go. This is just my view based on what I experienced in my own sex-ed course back in high school. The amount of ignorance kids have is insane and I have a feeling like easy access to free abortion may sound like a Plan C for people. I still think it should be allowed, but I think we need to educate youth a little bit more about potential risks from having too many abortions and why it should not be treated as a "Plan C." Like safe sex should still be the way to go (this is exempting all other cases: rape, health, etc.).
"like you can just walk in and get an abortion any time..." How should I put this, ahem, hmmm, well, It helps if you are pregnant in the first place... Yes, it is a joke. Not Canadian, but living in a country with free abortions. I find that countries with free abortions tend to have more and better sex education in school, leading to a diminished need for said procedure BUT the important difference is NOT that there are more abortions because there probably aren't, but that there are more SAFE abortions, fewer women bleed to death.
Abortions are covered under our provincial health care
Curling is cool. Just because you have to pay attention and not get drunk and rowdy doesn't mean it isn't amazing.
@Aunt Messey. I don't believe I specified the type of guns, but regardless that doesn't matter. If you own a gun you own a gun. We can definitely say the culture surrounding them is different though. I have hunted your neck of the woods plenty of times and have also been there for work (wildlife biologist). I have actually been on caribou hunts in Quebec (prior to 2018), black bear in Alberta, and moose in BC. As a matter of fact, I have taken all 3 animals with a homemade bow and arrows. Blaze orange is a law I'm well aware of as we have it in the states, but you may want to consult your game rules for the comment about camo. That isn't accurate.
There's nothing wrong with owning a gun to hunt, or even one for self-protection. But NOBODY needs a freaking assault-style weapon whose only purpose is to slaughter as many people as possible in as short a time as possible. That's all that's at issue in the US. Except for the fact that we'd like to mandate training, testing, licensing and liability insurance --and no-loophole background checks.
For the record, I don’t own and I have never owned an AR. My sporting weapon is a homemade bow. I’m just politically independent, so I do my best to look at both sides. I feel like we as Americans owe it to each other for civility’s sake.
I’m all for training. My home state of Tennessee mandates proof of a training class that was completed no more than 12 months prior. I will say this (and this isn’t a statement in support for AR-15s), there was an attempt to ban handguns in the 70s. After that was unsuccessful, they went after pistol grips on shotguns and rifles. Like I said, I’m not saying this in support of those rifles, I’m just saying we need to understand people on 1 side of the argument have a legitimate concern that it won’t stop there.

It is. I see you've never been to Alberta. Camoflage wear during hunting season will get you arrested and that is FEDERAL law. You MUST wear a blaze orange vest. ...///... When I was a kid, we were Poor. Living on a farm, we could at least hunt and fish. I sneer at American hunters partly as a joke, and partly in earnest. ...///... As an example, for seven years in a row, my mother got a deer with a single shot .22 rifle that had been owned by her grandfather. She was an olympic level shot. ...///... You could call that a bit of a contrast with inexperienced Americans blazing away at everything that moves.
Not all the police in the US are blood thristy racists, and drinking age in Quebec and Alberta is 18, she could have tried a little harder in impressing the Americans

Seriously? It doesn't matter that police murder unarmed black people unless ALL of them do it?
It matters but it is unfair to call all police officers murderers of unarmed black people when there have only a minuscule percentage have even been charged or accused of murdering an innocent black person.
Look up the official government stats on the problem. It's not nearly what it's made out to be. When you factor in age, gender and socioeconomic position, black people are killed by the cops at about the same rate as everyone else.
Lynda didn't realize that Mike Brown was unarmed yet still committed two violent felonies prior to being brought to justice. Lynda also doesn't care about a fraction of a population committing over 1/2 of all violent crimes. Yes, Lynda means well but has drank the identity politics Kool Aid.
It's okay to vocalize things that upset us about the current state of America. People have been criticizing that very thing since we stole it from the Native Americans that were here before us. What we don't want to hear is, "Of you don't like it, you can leave!" Saying that, says more about them than the person it's directed at along with sounding very ignorant .
Also, Many Canadians come to America to get true health care. Not completely government run. Even if they have to pay for it. I would like to know how many of these commenters actually lived in Canada?
This is true. I am Canadian. But , people go there for elective surgery. If it's at all life threatening, you are tended to immediately .
True. Tens of thousands of Canadians travel to the USA and other countries for healthcare.
Please provide evidence of your claim. Actual facts, not anecdotes or baseless claims.

I hear this a lot but I sincerely doubt it's as common as people think. I mean, seriously? You're going to come to the US and pay cash out of pocket the highest medical care costs in the world? Are they billionaires? Putting pins in my daughter's broken arm ended up costing close to $50,000. Most other treatments are no cheaper, and often more. Who has that much money?
Alright I’ll play. The Fraser Institute, a Canadian public policy think tank, estimates that 52,513 Canadians received non-emergency medical treatment in the U.S. and other countries in 2014. That report also stated the actual public system itself sends citizens to the US due to a lack of resources.

That's a flat out lie. I don't know who told it to you, but smack the idiot who told you that.
you can't downvote the truth as much as you try
11. Gun control only punishes law abiding citizens. Criminals don't care about laws! 12. And if the USA is so bad why do 95% of Canadians live so close to our border? Within 20 miles is it? I think I read that 90% of Canadians live further south that Seattle is on the globe.
11. That is solid logic, but the actual facts of our gun control laws appear to disagree. Canada has 5 gun homicides per million people per year vs 36 in the USA, and.032 deaths by mass shooting per million people in six years vs .089 (for sources please see https://www.quora.com/How-does-Canada-compare-to-America-as-far-as-mass-shootings-go). We're doing something right.
12. Um. Because of the weather as you get further north.
Hi there. Criminals are going to get guns anyway they want. It’s the people that are normal everyday people and snap that have super easy access to semiautomatic/automatic rifles that laws will help. If there were regular background check through the owners whole life or years that they own guns it would probably help. Also mandated mental health checks would be good. I am all for keeping your guns but people usually show sighs of being unwell before they snap and if we could look out for that before hand maybe there would be less mass shooting in the USA.
I predict a ton of downvotes but... I grew up on the border, fam in both countries. Canadians are just as arrogant about their national identity as Muricans, and Canadians love to forget their flaws by pointing out those of the USA. Y'know why Canada has "all that"? Taxes higher than any US citizen has agreed to pay,. It's not like it's free. Or that 100% of Canadians agree with free (fill in your blank here). But don't spoil online rants with reality, right? Nuance just kills that adrenaline rush.... BTW, Toronto has racists. They were clear about that when they mugged me. And the RCMP just shrugged. What did I expect? ... So, yeah, *real* different. (note dripping sarcasm)
Agreed. That statement about racism was the dumbest thing in this post. Of course racists are everywhere, and they for goddamn sure aren't all white. Girls I knew of immigrant parents often said their father would kill them if they brought home a white boy. I love your line "nuance just kills that adrenaline rush".
Just a random fact: REAL Canadian Bacon is PEAMEAL BACON! Please look it up! It is not ham, which is what Americans call Canadian Bacon; it's a completely different thing!
As a Canadian, I'm with him on the bacon thing. True, I've never seen a grocery store or anywhere else categorize peameal bacon as just "bacon", but I am definitely sick of cheap pizza places who claim they have bacon on their pizzas and when you get it it's basically ham.

Only in Toronto. Literally only in Toronto. And believe me, I've lived all over Canada. The ONLY real bacon is...bacon.
Screw this whole bias article. Canada has tons of problems. Screw these other countries on their high horses. Why are you so obsessed with the USA and it's problems. Worry about your own shit.
Wow this is the most misguided thing
Just look up how Canada treated their natives and see how fast the "Canada is paradise" narrative shatters.
We should just keep pretending that Canada somehow has a population of the only humans in the world who don't make mistakes.

Canadians never make mistrakes! ;-)
You are using a past tense to say that Canada isn't paradise today? Please be consistent with your argument.
Just look up at the tweets above and see that the OP never said "Canada is paradise" yet *did* address the gross injustices done to the native population. Read first, then make sure your comment is relevant.
You're kidding me, right? The policy in the U.S. was "the only good Indian is a dead Indian." Don't try to minimize the behavior of the U.S. by bringing up others. We were disgusting, brutal, and inhumane.
I think that’s the point. Very few if any civilizations can say there wasn’t a group that was mistreated in their history.
Americans can look to our own history about genocide and the natives. Also Japanese internment camps during WWII, Jim Crow laws, redlined districts to suppress racial homeownership and racist sentencing polices that disproportionately punish anyone not white.

The world doesn't need any more lazy stoned people in it. 3. Abortion being free isn't exactly something to be proud of. It should be illegal! 4. The drinking age SHOULD be 21! 5. Our police don't kill black people for sport. They kill ANYBODY that is a threat to their lives. They kill a lot more whites than they do blacks. Stop listening to liberal media. 6. Our president isn't racist. He hasn't said one thing the the beloved Obama and Bill Clinton hasn't said. 7. I'd take out government over yours ANY day! 8. EVERY gun is an assault weapon. Machine guns are ALREADY illegal. 9. More people are beat to death every year that are killed bu guns. 10. It IS hard to buy a gun legally. Look up the CNN reporter that tried to by a gun from Walmart to prove how easy it was. Two weeks later she still didn't have a gun.
Trump hasn't said or done anything racist, yet Trudeau has literally worn blackface. Figure that out.

No they are perfectly correct!
Having free health care in Canada or other countries with free heath care, means you have higher taxes. Weed was not federally legal for Canada until just recently. The states are working on getting weed federally legal, everything takes time, just like it did for Canada.
Hey, you get out of here what with your reason and logic and perspective. There's no place for that on the internet, lady. Duh.
It may look that way on paper, starting from the standpoint of having to pay for-profit healthcare agencies. Once the system is established though, the overall costs will be much less. Think of the billions of dollars that would be saved by people with chronic illnesses receiving regular care instead of being forced to use emergency services to get the care they need and then leaving the bills unpaid (which are ultimately borne by everyone else in the healthcare system anyway).
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
For example, in the Netherlands we pay roughly €120 a month for basic healthcare. At least that's what I pay, cause my husband and I have nice incomes. The less money you make, the more the government helps you pay for healthcare. The lowest incomes pay 20-30 euros a month on healthcare insurance. Also children under 18 are insured for free. Also this is mandatory.

Why is Suluhu downvoted? For adding facts to the discussion???
And here is the problem on the gun control front, people on both sides constantly talk about "common sense" measures. I happen to be in the position that this issue is much more complicated than either side will admit and I'm afraid we can't make any meaningful progress on the issue until our leaders recognize this.
Ridiculous. Our leaders are owned by the NRA. Until this stops, progress will never be made.
Being "owned" by the gun lobby doesn't make the issue any easier to solve. Even if you take the gun lobby out of D.C. you still have to find a way to prevent maniacs from getting a gun without completely infringing on someone's rights (due process, etc). There was a time when banning alcohol was "common sense" reform to curtail crime and corruption. You couldn't find a drink in the roaring 20s and crime nearly disappeared (sarcasm). Look, I own firearms (pistol and 2 shot guns) but I'm all for reforms that actually help. I'm just not in favor of reforms for the sake of reforms that do nothing but score political points.

"Easier to buy guns than get a green card." Ok there again, green cards aren't rights given to us in the Constitution. Now you can argue all day our gun laws need to be amended and you can argue all day that it is too hard to get a green card or citizenship. They just can't be in the same argument because you're comparing a constitutional right and something that isn't. I would like to say it amazes me this has 1M likes/retweets, but I'm just not surprised. People are liking/retweeting her anger and jabs at America, not the accuracy of the content. That's the point we're at. We like something based on how bad it makes the other side look instead of the level of truth within the statement.
#1 Students do not have loans of $50,000 at age 18. There are an almost unlimited number of programs to help with finances. #2 Yes, health care is free in Canada for youths but you are aged out of it by the time your appointment comes around. #3 No cost for abortions? If I've learned anything in this life it's that there is absolutely a price for everything and I'm not talking money. #4 Marijuana is legal and the drinking age is 19. Data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information show 10 Canadians die in hospital every day from harm caused by substance use, and 75 per cent of those deaths are related to alcohol. #5 My president is an "Racist orange cheeto"? Wow! Lack of maturity with this one. #6 Our "police kill black people for sport"? Unbelievable. Please do your own thinking! Please research such inflammatory accusations. What a horrible thing to say and spreading such factually untrue statements hurts everyone.
She seems to be making a lot of statements she isn't qualified to make. One that stuck out to me was her comment about "outside of Toronto people are racist." If you take the comment at face value, she's implying Toronto is free from racism. I don't think there's an area in this world free of racism. I'm of the opinion that it hurts your credibility when you make outlandish statements when trying to prove a point.

Gigi the statement she made about abortions simply means they are much easier to come by. Yes, of course there is emotional cost but you don’t have to worry about money, especially if it’s tight.

If you think there's no racism in Canada, you are dreaming in Technicolor. The FACT is that universal health care and the complete lack of a paranoid gun culture is what consistent makes Canada one of the most stress free, happy countries on the planet. ...///... Your snotty sour grapes won't change that.

1. Please explain how one can get help with college financing. I can't imagine all of these people stupidly taking on student loans don't know about the almost unlimited alternatives! 2. You're wrong. 3. A lifetime with a kid you didn't want. Is that what you mean? Yeah, I'll pass on that one. 4. You should look up the U.S. statistics. Nothing to be proud of in the U.S. 5. Wow. Lack of research on any of your "points" and he is a Cheetoh. 6. Not unbelievable, but exaggerated, yes. A black man is a marked man in this country, by many groups. Do you feel your privilege being threatened? The U.S. has become one of the shitholes the Cheetoh was complaining about.
She's Canadian but she still dumb enough to use the contraction "Y'all" lol plus for the last bloody time how is President Trump racist??? Oh because MSNBC lied and said it was true ..... Oh! in that case i heard Justin Trudeau was a sexist, effeminate, clueless ponce!
Since then it's also come out that he wore blackface on three separate ocassions.
Police kill people for sport? Wait, wut? That throws everything else she says into doubt. How absurd.
@Aunt Messy, I don't want to go back and forth all day on this, but again you need to review your regs book for Alberta. I subscribe to many states and provinces DNR, so I receive quarterlies which are newsletters on topics of conservation. I also receive yearlies which are you reg books, updated bag limits, season dates, etc. Funny enough, I received my "2019 Alberta Guide to Hunting Regulations" a few weeks back. The 2019 artwork for the cover is a small boy wearing Mossy Oak Break Up holding Gadwall and Mallard hens. The second page is a bowhunter wearing what I believe is Kuiu brand camo.
The irony of trying to call America's president racist, when Canada's prime minister wore blackface multiple times.
Jesus, calm down. It really makes me sad as a Canadian that so many of us get triggered when someone makes a joke. Relax.
Not to mention how many Canadians come to the USA for their serious healthcare needs because when it comes down to is our healthcare is superior!
Any “superior” healthcare the USA has also costs about the same as a house.
Up until 2012, I had worked for myself (consulting) after leaving the state DNR. I had my own low deductible insurance plan during that time. If I remember correctly it was $90 a month and my deductible was $500. After ACA kicked in, I lost that plan and was forced to either pay $600 a month with the same deductible or go to the bronze plan at $500 a month with $8k out of pocket and a $5k deductible. I work in conditions where I can (and have) get hurt. I took a bite from a copperhead in 2007, so I have to have good insurance. I just don’t think the good of the reforms outweighed the bad. Especially when you’re pushing it as a grand new system.
This wasn't worth reposting
If you are not happy with America... VOTE. If you are happy with the way things are going...I pity you. The only negative thing I can (currently) think about Canada is, it's cold. LOL ( I will leave out that the current toxicity in the u.s. is infecting our neighbors to the North, SORRY).
I did VOTE. The candidate I VOTED for got over 3 million more VOTES than the cheeto that won. So, yeah....
She also got 77 less Electoral votes.......you know, the only votes that actually counted
awwwwwww........Hillary in a landslide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Selty...exactly...so J Normal telling people that if you aren't happy to just "vote" is kind of a moot point, isn't it? And yes, the Electoral College installed Orange Dear Leader, NOT the majority of the PEOPLE...glad you admit that.
Canada has just as bad of a leader, but on the far other side of the spectrum. There's no winning in the "who has the worse leader" debate. They are both fucking dreadful.
I'm lucky that I live in a state without horribly gerrymandered districts, so my vote counts in local elections. But gerrymandered districts make it much more difficult to have a representative democracy (looks pointedly at deep south).
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
It's not that easy. Each state has their own set of laws, too, so it is not necessarily like "Let's make it more difficult to get guns everywhere!" It has to be passed as a national law. In addition, you honestly can't really vote for a candidate that you genuinely want to vote for. Republicans and Democratic parties are the dominant candidate parties in the U.S. even though there are countless of others that have genuinely good candidates. If I wanted to vote for a candidate in these other parties, my vote would be relatively worthless because the possibility of them being pick for presidential candidacy is next to none. Your vote goes to waste. So you, in the end, only have two choices which honestly... is not good. Then there is the whole situation with the voting system between states. Even if your state votes for the candidate you prefer, other states may be opposed to it. We don't decide on how many people vote for a person, but how many states vote for them.
Actually some provinces' (like Alberta) legal drinking ages are 18
They don't get to choose their Dr or hospitals. Those are assigned by district. I'll take USA anytime for my health care because I like freedom of choice. I voted for President Trump and will do so again. After the nightmare of obama Trump is a breath of fresh air!
You know a Canadian is retarded when they think their healthcare is free but mysteriously their taxes are out of wack
To be a "truth bomb" the stuff has to be true. 1. Healthcare in Canada is not free. It is universal - meaning everyone has access to health care regardless of their income or net worth. But we definitely pay for it - with our taxes. 2. I graduated from university with over $30k in loans and that was 20 years ago. Current tuition plus residence costs for an undergrad degree is $20000 to $25000 per year - so $50,000 debt is not at all inconceivable. 3. Medicine was free for people under 25 - for about year. Then the new government came in and ended it. Prescriptions are no longer free for people under 25. 4. Ambulances cost money in Canada too. Not as much as in the States but they can be up to $250 or more. 5. Inside of Toronto people are racist too. 6. You can't wear a hijab to work for certain jobs in Quebec - not every job. And you can't wear a Yamaka, turban, or visible cross.
Someone can't take a joke. Jeez.
You had me at maple syrup...
Sandy hook was awful. Shut up. Trump isnt racist, just blunt outspoken and honest, not a cheeto either, we dont need gun control, just better protection and more conceal and carrys. girl u making up lies fake as kim k's booty
The beginning tweets were enough though, it's smart and savage.. while also being truthful. But the following are just useless and make this girl sounds as if she couldn't handle the emotions after getting so much remarks and sensations.
I like Canada, been there a few times. The healthcare is free, but it's as shit as the NHS is over here. I had to laugh when she said "Kinder Eggs are banned in the US because choking hazard" trying to say that's a bad thing. Weed is also legal at a state level, citizens don't have access to assault rifles (an AR-15 isn't an assault rifle). I don't agree with the stupid who posted about moose and ham but that girl is doing the very same thing before trying to save face at the end. But I will say the maple syrup is on point over there.
She's just a loud mouth, ignorant little brat trying to get attention
I suspect Canada also has sex education in school. With info about protecting yourself from disease and pregnancy. Any one know this for sure? ( I'm Australian, and we do mostly, private schools possibly not )
She says "Americans deserve better." But she's trying to verbally abuse us? ExCuSe Me????
To Canadians, I got question about the healthcare.... So I read (a long time ago) that for the whole universal “free” healthcare you don’t really get to make your own medical decisions. Examples: If an old person has health issues and they face something serious that is life and death. The country can decide to not revive or decide to let the person die. So they won’t waste however long they have life using up expensive healthcare by the country. (True or false?) Also, that if someone is pregnant with a baby and they have Down syndrome. The country can decide to abort your baby. Or if you fight to keep it, they will refuse healthcare for said baby. So are these things true? I once asked someone, on another forum, about it. And they immediately stopped responding to me. Because though I think universal health care (is that the right name?) is good. I would fear those things. Any experience Canadians?
It's amazing how every comment rhat only faintly has some critisism on America is downvoted . Seems to me that in this topic the hypocrites can't stand that the "Great U.S. of A." is exposed as Backwardistan?
Scotland - no guns (not even the cops) free healthcare, free prescriptions for all, free university education, drinking age is 18 but sadly no legal marijuana (yet!) serious laws on racism prevention (and they're enforced) and we actually NEED people to come and live here!!
One thing that shows how bad the US is is that everything she talked about, people from other countries know about it. Bad things about Canada? We could not list them. I'm sure they have problems there too but most of us don't know if you don't tell us.
[emigrates to canada]
100% sure the lady is a Nigerian. My country people in canada😍
She doesnt look like a canadian. Canadians don't like immagrunts.
Our gun violence is smaller because the population is..... Smaller we havr shootinhs almost daily but not enough to make headlines worldside
Racist... orange... cheeto...I'm dead
I'd say it's pretty well understood worldwide that America totally sucks. Its culture is totally fucked, its healthcare system is barbaric, its measurement system is ancient, its gun-loving, mass shooting society is insane, the average person is morbidly obese., all the actors in TV shows and movies act like smartarse dickheads but are actually as clueless as fuck, everyone screams "RACIST" at the drop of a hat because of guilt over their slavery hundreds of years ago, their letterboxes with the little red flags have not changed in decades and their president is an orange clown.
I know this is true but having everyone hate on the U.S all the time is kinda annoying when you’re not in a position of being able to move, and also there’s lot of good things too. I agree that what she said is right but people saying things like omg Canada is so much better than America or literally everywhere else is better than America is not helpful when we know and are just trying to get through all the bad things
There is a lot of good in America too, so I am also annoyed by this constant bash fest of our country. Every country on earth has crap they have to deal with and attempt to fix. The reason we have so much student loan debt is the powers that be refuse to recognize you don't need to put kids in one generic line (math, science, etc). I went the science route and my brother went the HVAC route. I had student loans (paid off now) and he didn't. He makes better money than I do.
Amen! I love America, but lately it's been such a dumpster fire that I sometimes day dream of moving to Canada. I mean, I'm already in Alaska, which is almost the Canada of the US.
Haha I love Alaska. Have been up there a few times myself. I honestly think wherever you move you're going to have negatives. I like Canada fine and have enjoyed my trips up there, I just don't want to give up on where I am now. I'm generally a pretty conservative person (in the field of science lol), but I'm also a man without a party because we don't have more than a handful of quality leaders right now. I just wish our nuts on the left and right didn't get the loudest voice.
Here in the UK we would never admit to having a favourite child. (But it's definitely Canada)
we Don't have a gun culture here… we Don't have the NEED to get a gun. why in hell it's a need to have a gun
I would argue Canada does have more of a gun culture than people would like to admit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have read 29 percent (conservatively) of Canadians own guns. Granted that is lower than the U.S., but that's still a lot of guns. I think (again correct me if I'm wrong), Canada ranks 3rd in gun ownership.
@Aunt Messy hey so I dont know what kind of idiots you have up in Canada, but even in the US, its illegal to hunt with an AR-15. However, there are MANY hunting rifles with the legal caliber that are semi automatic. Dont get confused on terms you know nothing about. Also, there are many regions that have unique hunting requirements for dress.... depending on what you are hunting. Deer does not require blaze orange. Deer have fantastic vision and that would be a waste. Duck hunting is another issue. So when you say machine guns for hunting, you need to realize that not only are "machine guns" already illegal here in the States, but you have zero authority to say who deserves a hunting license or not. What I can say is that through your comment, you have demonstrated that you couldnt tell the difference between a rubber band gun and a rifle, so by your standards, you dont belong anywhere near a gun conversation.
Aunt messy it’s true. In some places in America it’s required for the deer to wear blaze orange
@Aunt Messy First you need to read more carefully. I was talking about the States, not Canada with the attire comments. If Canadians cant tell the difference between a deer and a person that they need to wear traffic cone orange, well thats pretty pathetic. Also... calling bullshit on the .22 deer hunting. Even a .22 Mag will not bring down a deer in a humane way. He may bleed to death 6 hours later. The smallest you can hunt a deer with is a .24 here and even then, nobody uses that caliber. Most common is either a 270 or 30-30. And one final note, yeah Im a ranch kid. Hunting does not destroy land. We hunt everything from groundhogs, coyotes, whitetail, to elk.... so unless you Canadian granola munchers are hunting with tannerite, you wont be ruining property. You have every right to be as big of a wildlife pussy as you want, but don't try to pull bullshit over the eyes of a hunter.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
That 20% is 100% long guns used only for hunting...and not very often at that. I used to laugh when American "hunters" would show up in our rural area only to have their semiautomatic rifles taken away from them and told that it's illegal to wear camoflage for hunting. ALL hunters are required by law to wear blaze orange in the bush. ...///... Canadians know that if you need camo and machine guns for "hunting", you don't belong anywhere near a hunting license.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
I would agree with you dr Scott, though a very different gun culture.
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
@A-Cluck - get stuffed. Hunting licenses in Canada are issued with a draw. People apply, names are drawn, and IF you get drawn, you get a tag for ONE animal. ...///... In Canada, it is federal law that you MUST wear blaze orange while hunting. Period, end of discussion. ...///.... If my mother can bag a deer for seven years running with a single shot .22 rifle while wearing orange, then what are you whining about? You're inept, so you have to whine about it. ...///... I own four farms. I permit NO hunting on my property. I don't need my property destroyed.
Bears. Bears in bulletproof vests.
So nobody should have a gun in Canada because YOU don't think YOU need one? What if I said I don't drink alcohol so YOU shouldn't be allowed to have any either? I don't NEED a pickup truck so nobody should be allowed to have one? Get real!
Been reading the comments and it's just pathetic how people mentioning actual facts on how expensive and inefficient the American healthcare system is get downvotes in big numbers. Is it because Americans still can't get over the harsh truth that everywhere else in civilised countries EVERYONE has acces to affordable healthcare with affordable medicins?
All of you bashing her, she got some points wrong but overall- how many mass shootings happen at the rate as in usa in other countries. And they're used as a 'right' so people just say 'thoughts & prayers' when shit happen instead of trying to prevent some of them. Downvote me as much as you want- if you think getting used to it and getting used to seeing people/ kids/ babies being murdered by guns that citizens don't need to own (rifles etc) then- it's a lost cause and more people will be dying and your prayers will do shit all to help.
Playing devil's advocate here, we don't even know how to define mass shooting in the US. According to some definitions, you have to kill 4-5 people while according to others a drunk uncle can shoot 4 family members in the leg at Christmas dinner. Couple that with the fact that we don't know how other countries define them, it is hard to quantify. But, what about the statistic that says more handguns are used in mass shootings than rifles? I'm of the position we need to be concerned with all gun violence. So playing devils advocate again, why do the nearly 2000 people who have been shot in Chicago this year not get this kind of attention? Is it sensationalism? Is it that it hits us harder emotionally? Is it that young African American males who are largely the victims of gun violence in Chicago don't matter as much? I'm not taking a side here. As I have said I'm politically independent and attempt to come down on the side of common sense. But, if you're going to solve a really complicated problem, you need every piece of information.
Correction: ambulance rides cost $1500 on average.

I’m Australian, we have the same things as Canada, Universal Health Care, Affordable prescriptions for all & pharmaceutical benefits scheme so even the poorest people can afford medications. Social security for all so getting sick or losing your job doesn’t mean you can become bankrupt, destitute & homeless over hospital bills. Where student loans are actually affordable and not a millstone around your neck for half your life, where people earn a living wage so they don’t have to work 3 jobs & 18 hours a day just to get into debt because they can’t afford rent or food. Where the mass shooting rates are one of the lowest in the world, yeah for commonwealth countries. Every country has its problems, like our PM who has his head up his arse most of the time, If I HAD to leave Australia I would choose Canada hands down over The USA any day.

Has anybody surveyed the homeless populations in both countries to see why they are homeless? I have a sneaking suspicion that the States would have a higher number of homeless people due to the fact they couldn't afford medical treatment. I could be wrong, and I have done zero "googling" on this topic. If i'm wrong, i'll own it, but i'm a gambling man and i'm willing to bet i'm right.

I had the car packed to bolt to Canada on the morning of the 9/11 attacks. The only reason I stopped was due to my husband couldn't get home from work and I wouldn't abandon him. I was in western Connecticut and I could see the smoke from my front yard.

This is pretty stupid and a boring topic. For developed nations being better then America is such a low bar you can't trip on it unless your a mole. Ffs even the free care I get as a vet is shit by comparison

Hi.... dual citizen here.
