39 Of The Best Shots Of The 2017 Solar Eclipse
4.5Mviews
On Monday, August 21, 2017, millions of people were staring at the same thing through doofy glasses, as they tried to catch a glimpse of the solar eclipse. Not only that, they also immortalized the awe-inspiring moment in photos, and Bored Panda has collected the best of them in case you missed the phenomenon or can't get enough of it.
A total solar eclipse covered a narrow portion of the United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. And a partial one was visible across the entire continent of North America, as well as in parts of South America, Africa, and Europe. This was the first time since 1918 when North America experienced the path of totality from coast to coast.

This Was Undoubtedly The Most Fantastic Natural Phenomenon I've Had The Honor Witnessing
Hours Of Planning, Scouting, And Driving Went Into Creating This Photograph. It Was On The Verge Of Being Completely Ruined By Clouds. But Thankfully It All Worked Out
The Eclipse Is Leaving Very Weird Shadows On My Deck!
I just posted some photos of the very same types on Facebook. "I'm being followed by a Moonshadow."
Load More Replies...It goes through the small holes in the leaves, just like the pinhole camera thingeys, you can use a lead if you don't have any paper
YES ! that is the thing I found more fascinating. The way the shadows changed from normal. Did you notice that the curve changed to the other way when the moon got to other side?
WOW...OK ILL SAY ITT,,,,,,,,,,,ALIENS FROM OUTER SPACE..... 11738007_1...283963.jpg
Proof of Einstein's Theory that light bends. With the sun totally covered, the light is bending around the moon.
Not many "likes". People are not understanding the beauty of physics that make this possible.
Boogyman footprints! Move immediately!!! Hide the women and children. Save yourself before the next eclipse come along. I have a slightly used pair of eclipse glasses for sale....cheap!!
Plasma swirls from the corona are leaving strange shadows. Fascinating.
The shadows looked so neat! I took this one under the big tree by my house. 20915490_1...026066.jpg
Took photos and videos of the same on our front sidewalk and steps here in Wyoming. Almost three-dimentional. Also pics of what looked like feathers or an angels wings.
we experienced this at our local senior center. One lady was kind enough to share her dark, dark glasses and one by one we all went WOW!
Not as interesting as actual photos of the eclips but you get an A for effort I guess. Nice try.
I know they keep saying shadows, but to me these all look like refracted reflections. I wish I had a scientist to ask about this phenomena directly.
I've experienced this before, walking down a NYC street during an eclipse in the 90's. It's my favorite part!
I've seen a few of these kind of shots today....but this IS definitely the best.
Shadow bands are different. Those are projections from light passing through the spaces in the leaves. The spaces act like pinhole projectors, just like the projector boxes some observers made. Same principle.

oh , nice one...but there is a face in the clouds looks like a skull..bad omen ?
I'm a pilot and professional photographer, so I figured I would combine the two! I flew a plane up to 14,000 feet (above the haze and clouds) over South Carolina and took these four images. eclipse-co...2a3a22.jpg
Thanks for the legit image, they are rare coin these days. For the rest of you get on to shutter stock and start making some composites like the rest of the Instagram hookers.
Wow!!
very awesome pictures thanks for sharing
I was in Waterloo, SC. I saw you! I was wondering what view ya'll had.
What plane did you fly? How does a pilot get the view of the wing?
Amazing thanks for sharing!
Thank you for these beautiful pictures Ray. Two great skills combined to give us these amazing pictures!
Awe-inspiring!
Thanks because so many of these web eclipse photos are fakes.
Wonderful! Thank you.

As you are a pilot, perhaps you could stop spraying the planet with chemicals? Note the first photograph of geoengineering at work.
Or not, because science: Science Officially Debunks Chemtrails, But the Conspiracy Will Likely Live On http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/science-officially-debunks-chemtrails-conspiracy-live-180960139/
You guys in America are super lucky to have seen this! The eclipse sure looks awesome in all these pics!
I felt very fortunate to have been able to see the eclipse. It is as awesome as people say and well worth the travel, ( not far for me ) and missing a day of work ( no PTO )
Do you use a pay_pal. because you can add an extra 900 every week to your income working on the internet three hours a day.. see this site Good luck____________ http://cutt.us/cPaNF
A more appropriate title would be "The 10+ Best Photoshops of Eclipse Pictures of 2017," because most of these are composites.
Agreed the close up are a little in doubt because you can't tell scale but most stock images of total eclipses are done like this to be inserted where needed but definite cons: #2 bollocks, #5 bollocks, #6 double-exposure bollocks #10 potential composite stolen from the actual photographer bollocks, can't %100 confirm but i've seen this exact image without the foreground (because zoomed in to this size you would not see this kind of foreground detail or comparitive size) from an entirely different photographer.

Compared to most of the other "eclipse" images coming up in the feed today, this is factual.
I was shure I would find the picture of donald trump starring into the eclipse here
meh think the sun revolves around him and can't handle this kind of competition
thinkS!
I posted on my facebook an article that showed Trump actually looking up at the eclipse before donning his eclipse glasses! Not a very bright thing to do!
Trump walks in no one's shadow. At mar-a-lago the sun was shining as brightly as ever.
He was in the White House that day
Trump can't fit in anyone's shadow!
I was sure spell check would've caught half of your message

Why? Because you have no education and just accept anything you see on the internet as true? No, uneducated welfare cunt, he didn't stare. HE glanced. And lo and behold, he DIDN'T GO BLIND! Because he IS educated and knew that it would not hurt him to do so.
Awww did someone hurt your feelings?

Why? Because you have no education and therefore just accept everything you see on the internet as true? He didn't stare. He GLANCED.. And guess what? HE DIDN'T GO BLIND! Again...because he IS educated and knows that all the fearmongering was just to prevent the uneducated welfare cunts like you FROM staring. HE knew that glancing was not going to do anything bad.
Oh, my god. You really hate women, don't you? No halfway decent man uses that word, no matter how mad he is.
You don't have to stare at the sun to damage your eyes. The damage is usually not complete blindness if you did. But any educated optometrist will tell you, and they all did, that you should never look directly at the sun, even for a moment. It can at the very least cause short term discomfort and is ill advised. But Trump thinks that he smarter than everyone about everything. But please tell me how his B.S. in Econ helped him in this situation.

Here is my addition to eclipse shots. eclipse-4-...290de1.jpg
Wow! It's beautiful!
I went to Wyoming and faced my phobia of heights to go up on a mountain just to see it. I just got back fromJFK at 2:00 am.
I got this beautiful shot there. IMG_1313-5...65-png.jpg

Mine came out purple due to a lens flare in a pic I took just before this one. I'm in SoCal so I only had a partial eclipse but I'm glad I remembered my ND filter before it was too late! EclipseFBC...bb5263.jpg

Loved the photos. People need to stop calling every shot "shopped". 1) it's called edited, 2) most photos you see these days are edited (damn, don't you use filters for your instagram photos?!), 3) it's part of the art of photography - whether you approve of it or not, digital painting and heavy photo editing to create composite images and using multiple exposure are very common these days. If you really want to point out something out of the ordinary, point out raw unedited photos.
Julie...superimposing two photos onto each other and trying to pass them off as one, is FAKE..plain and simple. That is not edited. Using your insanely stupid logic, those photos of Oprah Winfrey's head on a skinny model's body is a real photo simply because it is pieces of actual photos? The last one especially is HILARIOUSLY fake.
Photoshopped has become a common term for digital photos that have been edited. These photos are being presented as actual, "raw unedited photos".
My point is: who said these were supposed to be raw unedited photos? It doesn't say this anywhere. All photos are edited (btw photoshop is only one of the tools you can use to edit photos, hence I find this general call of "photoshopped" irritating but that's another matter). Yes, some included here are composite and digital paintings. I agree that these are not unedited photos, and that many are "edited into oblivion" as Angie says. But a photo is only "fake" if the photographer/owner says that it is unedited when it actually is. I doubt most of the photos here are even added by their owner, and I doubt most of the photographers would say to your face "I have not edited this photo" so it's a big step to call those people liars.
My picture is not edited at all! I took a selfie in Glenolden P.a. and my solar eclipse of the heart image turned out. I didn't even notice it until someone told me on Facebook that my picture looked like a heart! :- ) IMG_201708...84940b.jpg
Julie, some of the photos, no most of the photos being passed off as "shots" like this gallery are shutter stock images, composites and the like. Some don't even use this years eclipse, this is more soft "fake news" tolerance, more "alternate facts" more watering down of basic decency and honesty with the disclaimer "well no one said we DIDN'T edit these". There is a big difference between touch-up work and photo shopping, just like there's a big difference between makeup and plastic surgery. It was an amazing event and even this has been cheapened by attention whores and their like farming, their endless insatiable competition for followers and clicks. Just like Bored Panda has implied falsely that these are all actual shots of the eclipse in order to get people to click through to their website, i can find limitless made up pictures, if i want to see really nice digital art i'll go on Deviant Art.
Honey, these aren't edited, they're altered to oblivion. And the overwhelming majority of them are composites.
My photo (#26) is absolutely a composite. But I took everyone of those images for hours carefully and pieced the finished photos together in photoshop, yes. It's a labor of love I'm quite proud of.
All I saw was overcast skies. Screw you, mother nature!
I'm a documentary photographer and captured the ongoings in New York at the Rose Center for Earth and Space. Wanted to share the images with you guys: http://justinsnyderphoto.com/solar-eclipse-photography/ Best-Solar...95c625.jpg

Here is one where I was at 99 percent totality. You can see flares and bailey's beads. But next time lower ISO . Was taken without a filter at 800 ISO (mistake) and 6000 of a second shutter. eclipse17-...f72fd0.jpg
I'm really impressed people noticed the photo, not my spelling!
I've been sun-gazing for years, and wasn't going to let some filter get in the way of a full experience. Here's what I saw with my eyes, which no camera seems able to capture. 2017-08-21...c6-png.jpg

My wee Moody shot in the Dominican Republic IMG_2660-5...bbece4.jpg
Almost all are fake!!!!!!!!!!! For example, the time lapse from Oregon. The sun did not move a full 20 degrees in the sky during the 2 minutes of totality. Not possible unless daylight lasts a total of 45 minutes a day.

I really don't care about the eclipse.
Here's a great one! NOT photoshopped, enhanced or modified/faked whatsoever. Just a "real deal" stunning accident from Nashville! Eclipse-20...163e22.jpg
#6 is photoshopped, impossible to have that zoomed in of an image with a landscape shot.
