Hostile architecture. You might not be familiar with the term, but you've probably seen it in action. Those spikes on the window ledges, designed to keep the birds away. Or, in a more sinister fashion, things like strategically-placed armrests or rocky floors, cynically installed to ensure that vulnerable people in need of shelter are forced to look elsewhere.

Not only are homeless folks discriminated against directly and culturally, but also structurally too. These exclusionary designs, denying people even the right to find a place to rest, are a stark illustration of our society's collective disregard for basic humanity. Surely we can do better than this?

This heartbreaking list, compiled by Bored Panda, shows some of the most offensive examples of 'anti-homeless' designs, and it will make you ever so grateful for that roof over your head. Because it seems that if misfortune strikes and you should one day happen to lose it, you are most certainly not welcome to try and find a place to sleep on the streets. Scroll down to see what we mean for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments.

Homeless or not, wanderer or CEO, you simply don't destroy someone else property. This make me so angry.

Fark, can you imagine accidentally falling on it. They hate the beggars and the homeless so much they create a hard-core public danger.

If you're going to do this, then don't hide it as "art" but just admit that you're being cruel and kicking people who are already down

I know this all seems heartless, but unless you've had a homeless person take up residence on your property you have no idea how they behave. They are mentally ill for sure, which is why they cannot or will not live among the rest of us. They puke, p**s and c**p in your doorway. They leave huge mounds of trash behind them, with no concern for the environment, when a trash can is ½ block away. They accost everyone begging for money and terrify people with their haggard look. I know this, because I have tried many times to help them. I give them a place to live, and work, and hot meals. And they show their appreciation by refusing to get out of bed and come to work, but collecting trash all around their living space because they don't care about vermin or tidiness or anything else. I even had one kicked out of the Ashram behind me in near downtown Houston decide I needed protecting. I would open my door to leave for work, and there he is sprawled across door.

Instead of doing c**p like this, governments need to provide more resources for people in need.

He took my paint for tools and wrote some bizarre language vertically on all the corners of my house (some kind of blessing or voodoo protection?), which I was planning to only stain for natural aging, but now had to paint. He collected milk form the grocery dumpster and put it in the outside refrigerator, which was under a tarp because I was remodeling a kitchen my duplex. When I said it wasn't plugged in (hello, 25' from the house with no cord in sight!) he then poured all the sour milk all over my grass and flower beds. He tried to cook on the stove too! Outside under a tarp! I had him arrested and there he was the next morning! He pissed right off my front porch, and I'm not gonna tell you where he took care of other bodily functions. He bathed in the hose, and left the hose running all day. Homeless people are problematic.

They could have used their creativity to solve the problem of homelessness, then everyone would be happy!
