23 People Who Didn’t Think Before Posting On Social Media And Ended Up Losing Their Jobs
Our time is the time of social media. So many of us can't imagine our day without at least glimpsing at the likes of Twitter or Facebook feeds, scrolling through Tumblr dashboards or staring at the colorful photos on Instagram. And while for the most part posts on social media just seem like a minuscule part of our lives, sometimes a single message at the wrong place and wrong time can start a horrible domino effect that can topple entire lives.
Unfortunately for the people on this list, all it took for their lives to be turned upside was a single (or more) post on social media. Either a rant about their job, a misplaced joke or a distasteful photo, was all that was needed for things to go south really quickly. Be it your boss or an angry mob online, if your posts get seen by the wrong people, there's no turning back from the consequences. So learn from these examples and pay better attention to what you post online, as one can never know who might see it.

Glee Extra, Nicole Crowther, Ended Her Career In The Entertainment Industry By Tweeting Spoilers Of The Show
Nicole Crowther was a one time extra on Fox show Glee who became known for posting spoilers of the show on Twitter. Unfortunately for her, one of the spoilers was a nail in the coffin of her career as she spoiled who was Prom King and Queen in the second season of the prom episode. This prompted Brad Falchuk, one of the show’s producers and creators to tweet “Who are you to spoil something talented people have spent months to create? Hope you’re qualified to do something besides work in entertainment.” Nicole later admitted that the tweet basically ruined her life as she was blacklisted as an extra, so instead of pursuing her acting dreams she had to go work for her family's roofing business.
Daycare Worker Gets Fired And Receives Death Threats After Flipping Children Off And Filming Instead Of Watching Over Them
A daycare worker from Mesa, Arizona posted some questionable images on social media that got her fired back in 2016. The woman shared a series of images and videos that included one where she is flipping off the kids she was looking over with a caption that said 'swear i love kids!' Once the owner of the Kid's Play Learning Center received messages about the incident from angry parents, she terminated the employment.
well- this one needed to happen- if you can't do your job- then- DON'T!
Cheerleader Gabriella Pasqualotto Was Fired For Posting The Details Of Her Squad's Life In An Online Diary, Which She Was Hired To Do
As surprising as the fact that cricket teams have cheerleaders, the reason for Gabriella Pasqualotto's termination is just as baffling. In 2011, pro cricket team Mumbai Indians fired the cheerleader for blogging. Which later came to light was what she was hired to do. The team was aware that she could write, so they encouraged her to keep "The Secret Diary of an IPL Cheerleader". Reportedly, Pasqualotto was too honest on her diary and wrote who was flirting with who and the way her squad was treated by players during parties. After being given the boot, the South African cheerleader reported that she felt mistreated and thinks that it was one of the Australian cricketers who became upset with what she wrote about him and complained to get her fired.
Hairdresser Is Left Unemployed After Posting An Angry Rant Over Staff Deciding To Save A Dying Woman Instead Of Serving Her
After spending a New Year's Eve dinner in Kilroy's Bar N' Grill in Indianapolis, one hairdresser wasn't too happy with the experience and decided to take to Facebook to express her feelings. Holly Jones posted an emotionally loaded message back in 2016, but it probably still haunts her. After complaining about staff's reaction to saving a "junkie" who "overdosed", the lady received a reply from the restaurant manager who explained what really happened. Turns out, the person who Jones referred to as 'dead person' was actually a 70+ year old lady who suffered a heart attack and had to be taken to hospital. Luckily, the woman survived, though the same couldn't be said about Jones' career. After public outrage and personal attacks, the salon where Jones was working was bombarded with negative reviews and threats. The woman was soon fired from her job and has since disappeared from social media.
Taco Bell Employee Cameron Jankowski Was Fired And Doxxed By Anonymous For Posting A Picture Of Himself Urinating On Nachos
Back in 2012, one Taco Bell employee, Cameron Jankowski, decided that it was a good idea to tweet this image to a controversial internet figure and a now-convicted criminal Hunter Moore with hashtags #pissolympics, #nacobellgrande and captioned “guess where I work”. While Moore declared Jankowski the “winner of the piss Olympics”, the public only had outrage to offer. While plenty of people sent him angry messages, the 'vigilante' internet group Anonymous released his personal information. While the young man claimed he never served the food in the photo to anyone, some Twitter users claimed that putting human waste into food by a food handler could be considered a felony. While no charges were pressed, Jankowski had to find a new job as Taco Bell didn't share his carefree way of thinking.
New England Patriots Cheerleader Caitlin Davis Was Fired From The Squad For Posting This Image Online
Over a decade ago, this New England Patriots cheerleader was kicked off the squad for posting a photo online. The picture showed her posing next to a passed out guy with a sharpie in hand. While Caitlin Davis found the situation amusing, her management did not and she got the boot. Reportedly, what caught everyone's attention was the things that were drawn on him, like "I'm Jew" phrase and a penis. Davis defended herself saying that she's only to blame for poor judgment for taking this photo as she wasn't the one who actually drew on the guy's body. Still, the photo posted and the scandal that followed was enough to get her fired.
Christina Sersif; No, Not ok and Not everyone has ever done such a filthy thing to any one, much less to a friend.
Zoo Worker Posted A Comment On Social Media That Received So Much Backlash Online She Was Forced To Quit Her Job And Change Her Name On Facebook
In 2015, Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo employee Rochelle Robinson decided to complain about being ignored by visitors at the zoo. Naturally, the woman took to Facebook, announcing that she's serving "rude ass white people". A situation that, according to Rochelle, made her quit her job. Robinson received many complaints and comments about her post that all resulted in a wave of negative attention. Brookfield Zoo representatives issued a statement on their Facebook page that said this: "Yesterday, we became aware of the actions of a single employee which we agree are unacceptable. This employee's statements in social media are in violation of our policies and do not reflect our institution's values. We have zero tolerance for these kinds of divisive behaviors. We treat all employment matters confidentially but please know that we took prompt action to remedy the situation this morning." They also later confirmed that Rochelle was no longer an employee at their zoo.
IAC Exec Justine Sacco Was Fired From Her Job And Online-Shamed On Twitter For 'Satire'
While on flight from New York to Cape Town back in December 2013, Justine Sacco made several tweets to her 170 Twitter followers. Among some of them was the unfortunate "Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just Kidding. I'm white!" which Sacco claimed to be a satire intended to mock American ignorance of South Africa, as she's South African herself. Despite her comments, people on the internet weren't happy with the original tweet and started #HasJustineLandedYet hashtag, referencing her loss of job. Sacco's case became one of the most prominent examples of how a vigilante campaign of public shaming can affect and even destroy a person's life and career.
What was her thought process? That white people coudn't get aids? That only Africans can give aids? What???
Rashard Mendenhall Lost His Endorsements And Eventually Retired From Professional Football Career Because Of A Tweet Relating To The Death Of Osama Bin Laden
On May 2, 2011, observing the American reaction to the death of Osama bin Laden, the a former NFL running back posted his thoughts on Twitter. His criticism on the celebrations resulted in a backlash and soon afterwards Mendenhall lost his endorsements and was traded from Pittsburgh Steelers to the Cardinals. In 2014 he retired from a professional football career.
The man conspired and orchestrated the death of many people. He was a terrorist. Who gives a F what "his side is" ???!!!
A Toronto Based Sportscaster, Damian Goddard, Was Fired For A Homophobic Tweet
Damian Goddard lost his position as a sportscaster for Rogers Sportsnet after he decided to express his solidarity with Todd Reynolds and take a stand against gay marriage on Twitter. Although it was 2011, it was also the time right after the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010, so many people had a lot to say. It all began with Sean Avery's support for same-sex couples which started a gay marriage debate. After Todd Reynolds, an agent with Uptown Sports, decided to criticize Avery's stance, Damian Goddard thought it's a good idea to join on with his homophobic views. Soon enough, Rogers Sportsnet representatives issued a statement that simply said that Damian Goddard is no longer with them.
It's like that saying goes: respect their existence or expect their resistance
To feel that way privately is one thing, but when you're a public figure your freedom of speech isn't so free anymore. Your opinions have consequences so it's wise to not share them out loud.
If Goddard chooses to be a monster, he should keep it at home.
Load More Replies...I disagree with him, but I'm tired of people getting fired for having different opinions than ours. What's next? Will I be fired if I disagree with Oprah ?
There is no "true meaning" of marriage. Marriage is not a religious union, it's a civil union.
Wow! Nothing homophobic about that. It wasn't mean or anything, it was just an opinion...
Having a homophobic opinion would be homophobic so....
Load More Replies...What's wrong favouring against gay marriage? You believe in something, I believe in another thing. Is it hateful now to be disagree on a subject?
doesn't sound anti gay, is pro straight now wrong? why can you believe a way but anyone believing different is wrong?
How would one be pro straight without being anti gay? People that believe straight marriage is the only true marriage don't want gays to get married. While he didn't actually say he was against gay marriage, he is against it. He avoided using the term "anti gay", but that was his message.
Load More Replies...Then quit getting divorced and quit cheating. You ruined the sanctity of marriage, not gay people.
There is nothing inherently wrong with divorce. People shouldn’t have to stay in miserable marriages.
Load More Replies...Wait...what...he wasn't allowed to express his support for traditional marriage?? Don't people support gay marriage? How can one be a firing offense while the other is celebrated?
I disagree with him but he should not have been fired for this. At the time same sex marriage wasn’t even legal yet. He was expressing what was a mainstream political view.
CANADIAN. Look up when Canada legalized gay marriage, okay?
Load More Replies...Too bad, freedom of speech is not permitted in western countries anymore. All he stated was that he felt that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Not between to people of the same gender. That is not homophobic. That is just an opinion. If people are no longer to have personal opinions and express them in non violent discussion, then the western world is entering a time of oppression and censorship, people can lose their jobs because they think differently, so do we now persecute those who do not agree with us, because they do not agree?
Freedom of speech means you won't be jailed for expressing your opinion, it does not mean you won't face consequences for the s****y things you say, like getting fired and getting publicly shamed. It's not persecution to fire a homophobic person, it's the company protecting their gay employees from having to work with someone who doesn't believe they should have basic human and civil rights
Load More Replies...Okay so I know I'm going to get infinite amounts of hatred from literally the entire website, but I'd like to say something here. That's not a homophobic comment. He simply stated that he believed in a traditional marriage. A homophobic comment would say something about homosexuals being evil, or bad, or whatever. He simply stated that he doesn't agree with homosexuality. However, I don't know the full story, so perhaps he has made proper homophobic comments. The one displayed here is no more than saying "I don't agree with your opinion" If anyone reading this wishes to take my comment as homophobic, I would like you to consider this: I have said nothing of the sort. I personally believe in traditional marriage, but if you are homosexual, I do not automatically hate you. I simply did not agree with you. If we are to have our own opinions, we must expect others to as well. Please do your best to stay civil if you with to dicuss this with me.
100% with you on this! Wish more people actually understood the definition of homophobic and didnt just jump straight to throwing hate at people who disagree with them.
Load More Replies...Not homophobic just against gay marriage. Marriage is for men and women get married not the other way around
I don’t think he is necessarily homophobic, but marriage doesn’t have to be just between men and women.
Load More Replies...ANYONE should be allowed to have an opinion. I don't think it's right to date the same gender. That doesn't mean I am homophobic. Stop throwing it in my face.
You are allowed to have an opinion. Do you actually think they gave him drugs or something to make him change his opinion? He still has that opinion. He just has it unemployed now. You are homophobic and well stop rubbing it in your face once you change your opinion.
Load More Replies...Ridiculous. Not homophobic. He said absolutely nothing derogatory about gay people. He just supports NORMAL marriage, not those manufactured for fringe elements in our society.
It’s wrong when people can’t express their own opinion on social media. Certain people may not LIKE Goddard’s opinion, but it wasn’t enough to have him fired.
What's the big deal about not supporting gay marriage? (and I'm saying it from the perspective of a person who supports gay marriage.)
Being who I am, I suppose I can't "be homophobic." But I'm taking a look in the mirror, regardless. Ruining a guy's life for sharing his opinion, exactly what most of us do regularly, seems a bit much. What if the tables turn (back to where they were) and anyone can ruin anyone else's life based on their opinion, life style choice, and on and on?
His life isn’t ruined. He is fired because he’s a bigot. He’s not in jail.
Load More Replies...People who post s**t like this dont know what "traditional" marriage really is. Dont you guys know the most common type of "traditional" marriage is the woman basically being sold to a guy who could be up to like fifty years older then her? That marriage was for power and social status, not love?
Lol Suzi Gauthier... learn the law... this happened in Canada, as mentioned many times. It doesn't matter where he's from, though, as a public figure, he had to know his opinion would be read by many, and would perpetuate hate against a group of people. The network had the right to distance itself, protecting its reputation and ability to make money. The network did not force him to leave the industry - the article says that they announced he no longer works there.
Probably gonna get downvotes for this but there's a difference between being homophobic, and having a different view on marriage. Im tired of people misusing this term and slapping it on anyone who disagrees with them. Homophobia is a fear or hatred of gay people. You can still love and respect gay people, but have different beliefs on marriage. If he was fired for posting this then shame on them.
How can you respect them and not give them the same civil rights as the rest of the population?
Load More Replies...It could be argued that the traditional and true meaning of marriage is two people who love and respect each other, committing to each other and working together through their lives making each other happy. But I don’t suppose that’s what he meant.
I am lgbt, and I don't believe we should punish people for their opinions. I have heard people say the "true meaning of marriage" has to do with a "man and woman," and I have also heard people say the "true meaning of marriage" shouldn't care what gender you are. I think it is wrong to fire someone because they believe lgbt should be allowed to marry- I also think it is wrong to fire someone because they believe lgbt should not marry. I personally support LGBT marriage... but that's me. I only have a problem when people take their beliefs to violent actions and unjust laws. But just saying how you feel and choosing who to support, that's no crime.
I might not like it, or agree with it, but it's not a crime. If we made it a crime, LGBT couldn't be who we are either.
Load More Replies...This just makes me mad because the 'true' meaning of marriage is to unite two people together in matrimony because of their love for one another.
Doing that in Toronto is pretty damn stupid. We don't hold with that c**p here.
I also don't see why this guy was fired. He's not a politician making policy based on nothing but belief, which is purely a matter of opinion. He's just one dude expressing his opinion. He didn't make threats, it wasn't a hate-filled statement. He simply stated he thinks marriage is defined as between a man and a woman. I have no issue with same-sex marriage myself, but I respect the fact that someone might disagree with me. Were he a news reporter pushing his own personal agenda, a political figure who should base decisions not just on personal opinion, a high school teacher, that might be different. He's just a sports guy. Who cares what he think? He might also like Chopin, which (as we all know) wrote terrible music.
He was fired because his job is to be a public person that represents a corporation. You absolutely can be fired if what you publicly express goes against the public expression of the employer. That's the job he voluntarily signed up for and should've known better. Let's take it further: if you owned a broadcast company on after on their personal account a broadcaster said "I love Hitler and all he stood for. Death to the Jews" would you take it lightly? It's the same thing, just to a lesser degree. You'd say "Hey f****r, you're a public face of my company and you can't say that".
Load More Replies...Ahh pc or more correctly r******d American s**t where in this day and age it's illegal to have opinions
People do evolve. Learning should be a lifelong process evaluating and changing your views from experiences. Remember, crucifying and the lynch mob mentality for one's past views will apply to you also in the future.
Damian should've known better. I'm 100% against punishing people for having opinions but when you are a public face for a corporation you have to know that if what you say might compromise their ability to make money, then you have to be willing to accept the consequences. What an idiot. (also, to the people losing it on him, might I remind you Hillary Clinton publicly had the same stance more recently than this tweet. Just sayin).
Many people will be surprised on judgment day, when God supports the traditional and true meaning of marriage.
yet another bible thumper who doesn't like gay people. the bible is full of men who have polygamous marriages, do you support that?
Load More Replies...Perhaps I'm naive, but I've never understood the fuss about Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I always read it as, 'it's no-one's business who I love, so bog off.'
That is until you're "outed". Then your life isn't worth c**p. That's the unwritten side of Don't Ask Don't Tell.
Load More Replies...And to think, pre-Twitter we had to endure personal "in vino veritas" car crashes where drunk people let their true and private prejudices slip through...progress, amirite?
“SJW” are fighting against hatred and for equality. And yes actually what he said was hateful since he thinks queer people shouldn’t have the right to get married. He treats queer people as less than human. So thank the gods that douchebag was fired.
Load More Replies...Well, saying that gay marriage isn't "True Marriage" is pretty homophobic if you ask me.
Load More Replies...Apple Legally Fired An Employee, Samuel Crisp, After He Posted Numerous Rants About Apple Products On His Facebook Page
Back in 2011, one Apple employee decided to post all the issues he had with the company on his Facebook feed. Unfortunately, one of Crisp's friend on the platform was also an Apple employee who tipped a manager off. Long story short, Apple terminated their contract with Samuel Crisp, well within their right, apparently. Samuel didn't want to give up and took the case to an employment tribunal in Bury St Edmunds. Too bad for him, the tribunal agreed with Apple and dismissed Crisp's complaint, stating that Apple was acting within its rights to fire their employee on the grounds of breaching business conduct policy.
The Principal Of North Miami Senior High School Lost His Job Over A Facebook Comment
If you remember the "McKinney pool party" incident, then you probably remember the outrage and discussion that followed as well. If you're not familiar with the case, it was basically a racially motivated American civil disturbance that occurred on June 5, 2015, when A McKinney police officer was recorded restraining an unarmed black 15-year-old girl on the ground. The police officer, Eric Casebolt, later resigned. It didn't stop the principal of North Miami Senior High School, Alberto Iber, to drop his two cents on Facebook, expressing support to the officer fighting unarmed teenagers in swimsuits. The Miami-Dade County school district responded to Iber's comment by removing him as a principal.
He was afraid for his life? What a coward! If you think violence like that is ok against kids, you should not be responsible for them.
Gilbert Gottfried Made Insensitive Jokes About The The Earthquake Disaster In Japan Which Cost Him A Voice Acting Role
The comedian who has a history of making controversial jokes managed to turn another one out on Twitter back in 2011, when he posted a rather insensitive tweet on his page. The joke referenced the earthquake disaster in Japan that took over 15,000 lives and resulted in $360 billion damage. He was quickly dismissed from voicing Aflac's duck mascot which was unsurprising as Aflac does 75% of its business in Japan.
Alicia Ann Lynch Was Fired From Her Job And Received Death Threats After Posting A Picture Of Herself In A Boston Marathon Victim Halloween Costume
In 2013, Alicia Ann Lynch had no idea that her life would become a living nightmare after she posted a photo of her Halloween costume on Twitter. Unfortunately, she decided to dress up as a Boston Marathon bombing victim and people noticed. People noticed and people were outraged. They sent Lynch death threats, vile messages and some even went as far as to dig up her old provocative photos, despite Alicia's apologies and attempts to delete the initial photo. Her Twitter account was suspended and once she got access to it again, that's what Alicia tweeted: "I have been fired from my job. I am paying for what I thought was a simple joke. I know it was wrong now. I wasn't thinking".
A Social Media Strategist For Chrysler, Scott Bartosiewicz, Got Fired After Tweeting A Personal Message On The Official Twitter Account For Chrysler
Mr. Bartosiewicz had the misfortune of mixing up his personal account with the one that he was managing at his job. When he expressed his personal opinion in a tweet that said "I find it ironic that Detroit is known as the #motorcity and yet no one here knows how to [effin] drive", Scott didn't mean to post to it to the effin official Chrysler account. To no surprise, Chrysler officials didn't take too kindly to someone dropping the f-bomb to their customers and promptly ended the contract with Bartosiewicz's employer, New Media Strategies. Oh, and Scott was fired, which also didn't surprise anyone.
A Pastor And High-Ranking Crossfit Employee Was Fired For A Homophobic Tweet
Less than a year ago, a pastor at a local church and a CrossFit employee was fired for taking a stance on Twitter. Russell Berger, who was the company’s chief knowledge officer, tweeted in support of a CrossFit gym in Indianapolis, Indiana, where owners decided to cancel a workout in honor of Pride Month. While many employees and coaches decided to quit the gym, Berger only had words of encouragement for such a decision and went as far as calling LGBT pride celebrations a sin. It didn't take long before CrossFit announced that they fired Berger on Twitter.
Act like a bigot, get fired. This is not rocket science, kids. The guy acted like an a*s and got what he deserved.
Math Teacher From Colorado Was Fired For A Series Of Tweets And Racy Photos Online
Carly McKinney, a high school math teacher in Colorado came under fire after her social media posts caught the school board's attention. The photos shared on Twitter page "Carly Crunk Bear" showed the former teacher in some provocative situations, like smoking weed and appearing to be intoxicated or semi-nude. The social media posts got McKinney suspended at first, and later her employment was terminated. McKinney went on to defend herself, stating that the Twitter account was a parody and she never had drugs involved in her professional life. After her suspension, many students demanded her to be reinstated as many found her relatable and the board's decision unreasonable.
I think it is weird that a teacher can't do any stupid things at her/his spare time. When I was at school some teachers at my school did some really stupid things (like had a bar fight where one of the teachers got his rib broken, also one teacher had a serious gambling broblem) but still they were allowed to continue their work.
CNN Fires Host And Author Reza Aslan For Calling Trump A "Piece Of [poop]" On Twitter
Reacting to Trump's response to 2017 London Bridge attack, producer and television host Reza Aslan took to Twitter to express his outrage. While many people, famous or not, have very strong opinions when it comes to the current President of the USA, CNN didn't take Aslan's descriptions of Trump too kindly and fired their employee. The news network wanted to make it clear what kind of speech, on or off-camera, they tolerate and approve off. Unfortunately for Aslan, calling Trump an "embarrassment to humankind" and "piece of [poop]" wasn't exactly welcome and had his documentary series "Believer" dropped from CNN.
Lloyds Bank Worker Stephanie Bon Compared Her Salary To The CEO's In A Facebook Post That Had Her Fired
Stephanie Bon was an HR assistant for Lloyds Banking Group when she heard about António Horta-Osório's pay deal, a whopping £13.5million in salary. She aired her grievances in a Facebook post saying "LBG's new CEO gets £4,000 an hour. I get £7. That's fair." While it might not be fair at all, it also wasn't exactly smart to complain on a social media site where people could see it, especially your coworkers... or your boss. After the company became aware of the post, Bon was promptly escorted from the office and fired. The former employee thought their decision was ridiculous, saying that "[she] can't believe [she has] been treated so appallingly for what essentially amounts to a chat with [her] mates outside work".
CBS Vice President Hayley Geftman-Gold Was Fired After Calling Victims Of Las Vegas Shooting 'Republican Gun Toters'
Hayley Geftman-Gold was a vice president and senior legal counsel at CBS in New York when she wrote a comment on Facebook expressing her dislike for the Republicans — whom she called “Repugs”. While everyone's allowed to have their opinion, a lot of people felt Hayley crossed the line when she expressed lack of sympathy for the victims of the deadliest mass shooting committed by an individual in the history of the United States, by saying that they don't deserve it as most of them are 'Republican gun toters'. Following the public outrage, CBS responded by issuing a statement, declaring that Geftman-Gold was no longer their employee. Later, Hayley herself issued an apology, stating that she's “deeply sorry for diminishing the significance of every life affected”.
That was harsh, heartless and unnecessary. I don't blame CBS. I'd get as far away from her as I could too.
A Security Guard In A Florida Hospital Was Fired After Posting A Video Of Himself Farting On Instagram, Turned It Around And Became An Internet Fart Star
Last year, a Florida security guard known as Doug filmed himself farting over 75 times while at work and posted some of the footage to his Instagram account "Paul Flart". The account's description labels Doug as "The Fart Authority", though authorities at the hospital didn't take too kindly to the man's footage. Avid fan of immortalizing his life on video, he even filmed the moment he got fired, as a supervisor declared that he has violated company policy which prohibits using phones on the job and by filming himself wearing his security guard uniform on hospital grounds. Though while his security guard career was over, Doug didn't give up and starter a fundraiser where he said that his "goal is to be the first person to make a living off farting after getting fired from [his] job in a public manner". With his 104k Instagram followers, it seems that Doug is doing just fine!
Sociology Professor At The University Of Tampa, Kenneth L. Storey, Was Fired For A Tweet That Blamed Harvey On Gop Vote
In 2017, as the the costliest tropical cyclone on record, Hurricane Harvey, raged over the Southern states of the USA, Ken Storey shared some of his thought on Twitter. At the time Storey was a visiting assistant sociology professor in the University of Tampa, though as soon as the university higher-ups learned about his hot takes online, the man's time at the school was over. What exactly got him the boot? It was public outrage over his tweet, where the man expressed that he believed the people of Texas deserved the devastation that Harvey brought simply for voting Republican. Well, Harvey might not have been instant karma, but Storey surely received a good taste of it. Later, he issued an apology on his Twitter: "I deeply regret a statement I posted yesterday. I never meant to wish ill will upon any group. I hope all affected by Harvey recover quickly."
Teacher Is Forced To Resign After Student's Parent Complains About Her Photo On Facebook
2011 was truly the year when people first discovered the dangers social media could have for your job. Ashley Payne was one of them. She lost her job as a high school teacher after some parents complained about her photos on Facebook. In a photo from her holiday to Europe, Payne is holding two drinks in both hands. Seems quite innocent? Well, not innocent enough for the head teacher. She was given a choice to resign or to be suspended, of which she chose the former. Payne later tried to get her job back by suing the school, but ultimately lost the legal battle.
I get some of these, but people seriously need to get their heads out their asses and stop being so offended by every damn thing.
Yet our President can tweet about name calling, racism and outright lies, yet he still retains his job... Go figure.
If something is blatantly offensive or defaming another company, sure, take action, but like... were ALL of these really necessary...?
How dare you generalize us like this! This comment offends me, 😂 😂
Load More Replies...Who would have thought? The moral is still: Think twice before you speak/write/act. Let's hope that everyone gets the lesson that these people learned.
Some of these people did nothing wrong though, like the cheerleader diary one.

The BP comment section is home to many hateful virtue signallers. The hypocrisy in these sections is absolutely incredible.
Load More Replies...Hard to understand 80% of those from a european pow cuz half the surrounding scandals didn't happen here but over there. I guess ppl on the internet are just more sensitive because "written words" have a need to be "correct" or sth. Even tho more than half of what was tweeted out there will be forgotten soon anyway. Its the early stages of humans living with the internet i suppose. We are learning how to use it. One thing is certain tho - ppl should not expect the internet to host clean, good contents because life and humankind itself are violent lazy hippocrite and irrational. This post demonstrated the usual: money wins. And to quote Y.Harari:"a company does not suffer" -
The take-away is don't post on social media. Very few people care what you think, and there is always someone who will find a way to be offended or upset at your post, no matter how cute or innocuous.
Well, not really. I get when people do something bad but now you can't live your life at all? I mean maybe if she was drinking 3 drinks through tube and looked like being on drugs too but come on. Ridiculous. I bet most of those parents who complained get off their head more than just holding 2 drinks.

IN THE NEWS AT THE MOMENT (UK) Actress fired from her acting role because of using the "N" word on social media. She was fired this week for tweets made back in 2013.
Why the downvote? just adding another story to the list...
Load More Replies...Most of these were idiotic. Take #20, CBS exec fired for making nasty comment about "Republican gun toters". I'm a Republican and a "gun toter" -- I have a license to carry a concealed weapon. Of course I don't agree with her view of people like me. But I don't think she should have been fired over it.
And your attitude is why I'd love to love the left, but their bully authoritarianism has me understanding they are far more dangerous than anything the right can muster because the far right is fringe, but the far left is going mainstream.
Load More Replies...The thing is...if people are not allowed to speak against practices & lifestyles they disagree with, then this is no longer a free country. The pendulum has swung too far & some people/groups are just too ready to be offended at any little thing. You want to live a certain way, then do that. But let people who disagree with you disagree. You disagree with them, so...get over yourself.
People are free to say what they want, and employers are free to fire them.

do you have to publish the real names of these people? They already live with a stigma and shame. :/
Maybe I haw misinterpret US constitution as I live in Sweden and only have seen US through TV, news and movies, but I have heard of “freedom of opinion and speech”. We have it too. Americans seems to be very protective about their constitutional rights...does they only apply on SOME Americans? Please enlighten me if I have miss understood.
A handful of years ago, an NFL cheerleader was fired for posting pictures of her Halloween costume. She went as Lil Wayne, complete with blackface
But yeah some of these people should be fired... If your pissing on peoples food, you should get banned from all food jobs if possible :/ That's terrible. Going out to eat is also very expensive & a treat.
Several of the comments here are labeled "homophobic". Yet there's nothing about the comments that indicates fear or hatred, just disagreement about a controversial social issue. Characterizing everyone who disagrees with you with a term that implies a mental illness is just bigoted and stupid.
I'm mostly disturbed that people can't seem to have personal time on social media. Once you're hired by a company....you are now always an ambassador? Or else?
Never post anything you wouldn't say in real life, so many people are publicly shamed by making off color comments or trolling. You can never tell who is going to read your comment, somebody may have the ability to blast you in to infamy and before you know it you've lost your job and shamed your family. Society can be a very unforgiving and unsympathetic animal.
People ARE posting things they'd say in real life, but to their buddies over a drink. They forget they're talking to world.

Third..if you are going to act racists, homophobic, or self righteous..expect to be humbled..sometimes severely... Lastly..always realize your social media pages are never really private. Items can be shared and reshared while linking directly back to you. If you think any picture, video or comment you post on twitter, instagram, facebook...etc..is private..you're kidding yourself. So if you don't want the whole world to see it..don't post it.
That last part is so right because text is clumsy. I used to post the way I spoke but all that nuance goes out the window and it provided useful context. Now I only post things I'd defend while speaking to a stadium of people who hate me.

No, people need to stop taking everything so seriously. Lighten up!
Load More Replies...I get some of these, but people seriously need to get their heads out their asses and stop being so offended by every damn thing.

Some of these people did nothing wrong though, like the cheerleader diary one.

The BP comment section is home to many hateful virtue signallers. The hypocrisy in these sections is absolutely incredible.

Why the downvote? just adding another story to the list...

I'm a Republican and a "gun toter" -- I have a license to carry a concealed weapon. Of course I don't agree with her view of people like me. But I don't think she should have been fired over it.
