The world seems perfect at least for a moment when you sit by the fireplace, listening to Frank Sinatra’s “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!,” totally in for the Christmas spirit that brings you back to your childhood memories. But as they say, be careful what you wish for, ‘cause you can indeed get a (tiny bit) too much snowy goodness.

Just like it happened in Binghamton, New York, where a staggering 20.5 inches of snow fell in just six hours, burying the city under 41 inches of snow. So on Thursday morning, at around 6:40 am, the residents woke up to realize they would have to dig themselves out by snowblower, snowplow, or shovel.

The snowstorm is said to be a record-breaker, with the second biggest of 35.3 inches documented three years ago, in March 2017. New York City was also hit by heavy snowfall overnight, with 10 inches falling in Central Park by 8 am, according to the National Weather Service.

Meanwhile, other states like Vermont and Pennsylvania have logged more than 40 inches, with the very northern part of the state reaching 43 inches. So yep, it seems like you can get too much of a good thing, I mean, snow.

To find out more about the record-breaking snowfall in Binghamton, Bored Panda reached out to one of its residents, Zach, who goes by the Twitter handle @zcoonick6. Zach shared a photo of the street in snow-buried Binghamton with the caption “Waking up to 40” of snow this morning.”

Zach told us that he woke up at 3:30 am last night, checked outside, and was completely surprised. “I was expecting to see my cars in the driveway but instead it was just massive piles of snow. It’s not something you expect to wake up to.”

“As of this morning, they have plowed our roads just once to make them passable. Pretty much all of yesterday, the roads weren’t touched so travel was impossible.”

When asked how the residents were prepared for so much snow, Zach explained that living where he lives in New York, anytime there is a snowstorm on the way, “you are prepared to a certain extent.”

“For this one, most of the weather stations were talking about 9-16 inches, maybe 20 in some spots, but nothing like we ended up getting. (Officially 42”). So we were a little caught off guard, but it is par for the course in the Northeast.”

Fortunately, Zach assured us that everyone is doing well right now. “The state of emergency was lifted today and I think by the end of today, everyone will be dug out.”

“I know that my family and I are happy that we will be getting a white Christmas this year,” Zach said and added: “unless 2020 strikes for the final time and melts all that snow in a week!”

The first pic is usually the max amount that we get in WA, VERY occasionally it gets to a couple inches more than that though.

Clean the roof of your car! If you stop at a traffic light the snow could hit anything and anyone in front of you.

Yeah, don't let the cops see you driving around like that. Funny picture, but stay off the roads.

Doesn't anyone else see the profile of a snowwoman on the passenger side by the shovel handle in the last image?

Modern art. White - black, light - shadow, hard - soft, permanent - transient, straight lines - soft and rounded shapes. I could see this phot on my wall.

All I can say is, thank God that storm went southeast of the Great Lakes and totally missed southern Ontario!
