Smoking Kids: Photoshoot Shows How Adults Influence Youth
Frieke Janssens was shocked when she saw a video of a chain-smoking two-year-old in Indonesia. This in turn inspired her to create the “Smoking Kids” photo series, featuring children dressed like adults – an actress, a boss, a housewife and more – and posing like smokers, cigarette or pipe in hand. The project makes you consider the cultural significance of smoking and how it impacts children. If we can’t escape it, do they even stand a chance?
Janssens does a variety of photo projects, some personal, some for advertising. Oh, and don’t worry. The children that took part in the project, all aged between four and nine years old, are too young to smoke; the shoot contained no real tobacco. The kids used cheese and chalk sticks instead of cigarettes, and the smoke was provided by incense sticks, which, we can all agree, smell a lot nicer.

Share on FacebookSmoking argument aside, this is fantastic art. Te photography did what is was suppose to. It evoked an emotion in you all.
Wow, it looks so wrong. Although I think the costumey stuff makes it look much more acceptable, which defeats the purpose. But the ones of regular-looking children smoking make me cringe, which is exactly what the artist was going for. Eak! Get those cigarettes away from those children!
they are props, dont worry! not real, i have some to freak people out!
Load More Replies...I don't know if this is an act of protest or Marlboro's new ad campaign.
Parents aren't the ones who make children smoke...actually, starting smoking as a child because of your parents example is something that rarely happens
First off: Beautiful shots. Love the talent, lighting, expressions, poses, wardrobes. But I agree with some others that it looks more glam than disturbing. Perhaps if they were in more traditionally childish poses and settings it would read differently. Like a little girl on a swing set or playing with a dollhouse and a cigarette dangling out of her mouth. Or a boy building a Lego ashtray, lol.
I had mixed feeling about this. Although I loved the message and art, i was confused about their being dressed as adults (making it feel more normal in the viewer's eyes?) and whether or not they were actually smoking (I hope it was just good photoshop skills!)
Those are real cigarettes and real cigarette smoke. I don't care what they say that its caulk and intense smoke what b******t
despite what they're sayin in this post, I looked carefully at these pictures so I don't understand how they can say that they ain't smoking
