People Outraged After Japan Skating Rink Freezes 5,000 Fish In The Ice
An ice skating rink that froze 5,000 dead fish and other sea creatures under ice was forced to shut down after receiving public outrage and criticism. The amusement park was called Space World and located in Kitakyushu, Japan. According to the CNN news, on the day of its opening, the company posted pictures of dead animals on Facebook with the following caption: “I am d… d… drowning, s … s… suffocating”. When this was met with public backlash, calling the company “terrible”, “sinful”, and “having no soul”, the Space World responded. The company swore that when they bought the fish they were already dead and considered unfit for consumption. They said they used real fish for educational purposes and to add something extra to the rink. “We were shocked to hear the reaction as the ice skate rink was very popular since it opened two weeks ago, we had an unprecedented number of visitors,” company’s manager Toshimi Takeda told CNN.
“We are sorry for the project and decided to close the rink on that night,” Takeda promised they would unfreeze the skate, remove the fish, and then hold an “appropriate religious service” for the dead fish.

Share on FacebookThat's actually a really cool idea. If they did it with fake aquatic animals it would be really cool to skate over them!
My initial thought was that is cruel, BUT then I read the companies response. If they were in fact already dead and unfit for consumption, people are getting angry over them essentially freezing garbage. If you had a dead fish that you couldn't eat, you would throw it out. At the same time Japan is still hunting whales for "scientific purposes" that is sold as food. It's kind of a strange double standard.
I don't get it... If the fish were dead and unfit for consumption they would have been thrown out. Why not use them for this?
hold an “appropriate religious service” for the dead fish. " i doubt they going to that lol
they are totally doing that! They are quite serious about this stuff in Japan.

why humans do not treat other animals with humanity..they are also living being..killing other animals for fun or even for food is wrong...
Why lions do not treat their prey with humanity... You eat what you like, but the real sin is in the industrialization of the killing process, and to a larger extent, the industrialization of agriculture. If the fishes, already dead, were unfit for consumption, why not. Anyway this was poorly designed.
Load More Replies...I would assume it is likely that the skaters visiting the rink the two weeks prior did not give much thought into what the fish were. I can imagine myself being a marine life lover, that I would assume it was fake plastic marine life, or some kind of really good mural, that gave it such realism, as the thickness of the ice would break that barrier of is it, or isn't it 3 dimensional. I can imagine that there are a lot of skaters that went that first week or two, upon hearing it was dead fish are probably horrified, and probably contributed to the outrage, as I know I would have. There are museums and exhibits all over the world, that are essentially the bones/remains of once living things, but this was a very silly thing, as again it could have been achieved with replicas.
I agree with Jaz, it would be cool if they were fake fish! I'd probs puke all over the icerink becuse the fish went bad and smelled like... vomit and rotten fish! [BARF] oops... sozy guys... images-583...d05bb7.jpg
they were under the ice. Those pics are when they were thawing it!
Load More Replies...I think the post with a picture of a dead fish saying it was suffocating was low brow and stupid. But I think the idea is awesome. Beautiful beach scene and gorgeous school of fish. But again the Fish spelling out hello is low brow. If they would have done it purely for educational and artistic value it probably would have ended better for them.
In a way it's a nice idea (and this is in the country where people buy and sell tiny turtles or fish sealed in plastic bags till they die as luck charms.) but even knowing the fish are effectively garbage, I'd still find it rather creepy to skate over them.
With ' in a way' I mean visually. Sorry, no edit function.

Probably to make it look like you're ice skating with real fishes.
Load More Replies...Thats what they always said some BS excuses. Just like they did to the dolphin in Taiji, Japan. And went all the way to kill the whale.
yes :( same with Live turtles in a key holder liquid :( it's crazy
