People Are Disgusted With How Wasteful This Woman Is With Her Use Of Pre-Pasted Toothbrushes
With the current state of plastic pollution well documented – a staggering 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year – you’d think that the message about cutting down on single-use plastics would be getting through by now.

Apparently not. This mom, posting on the ‘Simply Moms‘ Facebook page, was keen to advertise her lack of awareness and sheer laziness to her peers, even going as far as recommending these ridiculously wasteful products to others.
There seems to be a movement of people who are spitefully going out of their way to drive bigger cars, use more plastic and eat more meat just to prove their ‘denialist’ credentials. Luckily there are growing numbers who are still able to empathize and educate themselves, and this lady was rightly called out for her misplaced smugness.
How hard can a quick wipe of the sink really be?

Microplastics have become so ubiquitous in our environment, they are starting to impact human health too. Having entered the food chain, starting at the very bottom of even the remotest ocean floor, researchers have now estimated that the average person consumes more than 74,000 particles of plastic each year.
The long term impacts of this are still unknown, but it’s certainly not going to be part of a balanced and healthy diet, is it?

According to National Geographic, 40 percent of all plastic produced is packaging, used just once and then discarded. “It’s OK because it gets recycled,” you might hear people say.
However, less than a fifth of all plastic is recycled globally with the highest rates in Europe at 30 percent. China’s rate is 25 percent, while the United States recycles just 9 percent of its plastic trash.

None of this is an excuse for laziness. While our individual efforts are unlikely to make a great deal of difference in the short term, we can change wastefully packaging by businesses by boycotting them, voting with our purchases and choosing environmentally friendly and socially responsible products. Eventually, the message will get through.
To achieve this we need education, awareness and actual care to triumph over blind convenience, which is why the reaction to this mom’s hideous message is so important!

If you want a better alternative to plastic toothbrushes you can try the ‘Humble Brush,” an eco-friendly toothbrush with a handle made from 100% biodegradable, sustainably-grown bamboo. Humble Brushes are just as effective as a regular brush but are one less unnecessary plastic item to have around. You know it makes sense!

Share on FacebookCalled out by the same people who buy fresh over priced coffee in a disposable cup every morning. Seriously, she wastes toothbrushes, you waste coffee cups....I don't think one is better than the other
How do you know what kind of cups they use? People who know very little of plastic is recycled are the type to not use any of that stuff. For example the (international) company I work for removed all disposable cups from every building it operates in. We all use our own mugs and most people bring them to the coffee shop when buying coffee these days.

Why would anyone make this? It's like they're trying to promote plastic wastage .🙄
Likely something made for dentists and not meant to be used by the general public.
Load More Replies...OK, I'm a little scared to say I have bought these pre-pasted toothbrushes. I have a neurological disorder that causes tremors in my arms and hands. Most of the time I'm OK and use regular toothbrush and toothpaste. Other times I'm shaking so much I need the pre-pasted brushes. I do hate buying them because of the waste, but sometimes I need them.
well, you have a legit excuse, and that's so sad
Load More Replies...I'm wondering if this is how she looks at brushing your teeth, what's the rest of her household trash look like? I guarantee that's not the only thing they waste and I guarantee they don't recycle. Teach your freakin' kids to take of the earth, how bout that!!!
I give these out on Halloween, carry one in my purse, keep some on hand for last minute, unexpected overnight company. As much is possible, I reuse them for unrelated tasks. In the house for cleaning jewelry, for around the faucet, in the garage, in my laundry, etc. But then, one box lasted me ten years. Not for everyday use. I don't think the toothpaste is a very good one.
Noone should buy single-use toothbrushes, then they would not be produced. You add to the problem and that does not give you any bragging rights at all, as I see it.

Not completely true. While I will admit there are more stupid people breeding than not, I have 3 adult children and only my oldest daughter has birthed a child. Our 11yr old grandson and he is the light of our lives. She was married when she did so, but his father began dabbling in drugs and she suspected cheating, so she kicked him out and immediately divorced him, paying for all by herself, when grandbaby was 7 months old. It cost her almost$2000 and she has never let anyone pay her way. She has busted her a*s working to provide for her and her son ever since. Still a single mother. We bought her first car for her for graduation and since she has insisted on making it on her own. She's one of the smartest, most brave people I know. So, not all of them are stupid people.
Load More Replies...While I agree this is not a good solution and lazy...the vehemence and anger from some of these tweets are grotesque. Tons of 'i'm better than this ____ person' and shame based hate. Likely all served up by people who likely consider themselves 'accepting and open minded'.
Why isn't there an article about swiffers? We use all kinds of disposable stuff we shouldn't. That's not a whataboutism. I'm just saying that it's weird how we cherry pick our outrage when the issue has been around for ages with all kinds of common household things. I bet lots of people outraged use things like swiffers.
Wow, I really hope there are more of us out there, who try every day not to produce too much waste. Even if we're not 100% plastic-free, it means we're trying. And I truly think, that we learn as we go. Nobody is perfect, but you don't need a high horse to realize that one-time toothbrushes on a daily basis are totally unnecessary.
Serious question. I've been trying to reduce my plastic use, yes even recyclable plastics, because I've heard that so little of it gets recycled. But I'm not clear on what exactly those statistics mean. If I buy something because it's recyclable and then make the effort to wash it and put in the correct blue bin, what are the chances at that point that it's not getting recycled? If it's nonzero, where can I learn more about this? Thanks!
If all the things to worry about ... (I mean it to the single toothbrush lady)
I think manually moving the toothbrush is a lot more effort than putting toothpaste on an electric toothbrush and just holding it. Jeez.
WTF is wrong with people. I go to painstaking lengths to recycle then see this kind of bullsh*t here? F HER!
Also, it doesn't matter if they're recyclable if she is (apparently) throwing them away in the trash. The garbage company doesn't use magical plastic magnets to get them out. If she is putting them in the recycling, she needs to rinse thoroughly first or risk contaminating the whole batch (some of the stuff I see in my building's recycling would curl your hair).
I guess she could do with some education about how recycling works. That's ok
S**t like this doesn't even exist in my country, not even for the dentists. I've taken my kid in, they use a toothbrush (that is then given to the kid to take home) and paste from a tube. Seriously, WTF?
Never heard of these. Wouldn't the toothpaste get messy inside the wrapper? Maybe is they made the brushes biodegradable, like paper straws, it would be better. It's not like they are wet for long. I understand their use at dentists, emergencies, homeless shelters etc, but not for daily household use.
i think they're meant to be run under water like those mini travel toothbrushes with dry toothpaste
Load More Replies...I'm confused on how this would prevent a mess. Sure it won't be more on the sink maybe, but there's no way the toothpaste isn't going to be all over the inside of the package once it gets shipped. Also if it supposedly saves waste from a tube or something, there are things you can get for a dollar or two at Walmart that pushes the toothpaste to the top of the tube.
How does one even think of this as a good idea? Isn't it even more work to constantly be emptying the trash in your bathroom? So let us say that this is a family of four who should be brushing their teeth twice a day. That is 8 of these every day. By the end of the week you have 56 of these things in your trash. To me, it is way worse to empty the trash every two seconds than it is to wash off a sink. So are they not brushing everyday? Even if they only brush once a day that is 28 of these things which is still a full bathroom sized trash can worth.
How lazy is this motherf***er that applying and removing the toothpaste isn't an option?
Lol nice stretch, this is my group and we in no way condoned this, but were making our group a safe space. Which is becoming harder thanks to all you a*s hats who aren’t mothers trying to join, way to get the hard core “news” out there buddy 👏🏼 this woman had no idea how bad these were for the environment until she was TOLD. Know better do better right? Y’all are BORED 😂
I agree its outrageous, but shouldn't we be more upset at the fossil fuel companies? Shes not going to kill the earth single handedly, but they might
In my experience the mess is made AFTER the paste is on (well, OK, kids can & will take too much the first 20-30 tries of their lives) so I don't see what this horrible waste is helping her. But if teaching that is too much, how is she getting them potty trained? Are they all wearing diapers and she hoses them down once a week? "I used to hose them down once a week, but then I found out about our public swimming pool"? I think we should be told.
Holy mother of god. She's so proud! ..and plastic bags that strangle dolphins and turtles are on sale..three for the price of one! Go gettem girl...pity about your children's future....
The company that makes these and whoever buys these should be ashamed of themselves.
Nope. There are uses for these, under special circumstances. At the dentists' practice for example, as has been posted already. It might also be handy to have one or two of these at home if, I dunno, you bring home a friend that missed their last bus or whatever. It's not a bad product, it's just an infuriaringly bad behaviour this lady shows.
Load More Replies...We did use some when travelling, it was good to brush after eating when we weren't in a hotel room. But not as a regular thing, heck no!
where's the brains in this? To minimize waste by pre-pasting on 114 toothbrushes? So you're not making mess or wasting toothpaste but what about the toothbrushes !! I feel for those toothbrushes tbh they have more sense in the matter than this lady. I really hope she realized it was a very foolish idea :/
how long do you use your toothbrush for? still Not recyclable, toothpaste tubes are Not recyclable. All of you whining can just Stop brushing your teeth. Saving the planet right there
I found out not too long ago, that biodegradable plastic only means that it can be broken down into micro pieces. It will not dissolve completely. That's how you get microplastic in your drinking water..

Yeah, but not everyone who does things like this are the @ssholes, they are made out to be. I have a friend, who is a very good person. Is polite and helps a lot of people, personally everyday. I was telling her how I just got a new set of knives and forks, because sometimes the dishes pile up. She told me that they don't do dishes, because they use plastic knives, forks and paper plates for everything. I was shocked as she seemed like a person who has their head screwed on straight. Goes to show you that even thoughtful people, can be thoughtless at times. Especially since we USED to send most of our recyclables to China (thanks Trump) for recycling, that has gone by the way side and many communities now we are just burying the stuff.
Tons of stuff was being shipped down to several towns in Alabama and contaminating the soil and air from places like NY and surrounding states. It's ridiculous.
