Sia Has Adopted Two 18-Year-Old Boys From Foster Care
It is estimated that over 23,000 kids will age out of the US foster care system every year. Once that happens, the odds are not in their favor. According to the National Foster Youth Institute, 20% of them will instantly become homeless. Only 1 out of every 2 will be employed by the age of 24 and the chances for a child who has aged out of foster care to earn a college degree at any point in their life are less than 3%. Even though these children are in desperate need of a stable, loving family, many of those who are looking to adopt prefer much younger children.
In an interview, Sia recently announced that she has adopted two 18-year-old boys who were aging out of the foster care system
Recently, the famous singer Sia Furler revealed she is not one of those people after she adopted two 18-year-old boys.
Speaking to Sirius XM Radio, the musician said: “I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18—they’re both 19 years old now. They were aging out of the foster care system. Yeah, and I love them.”
After being asked how they are dealing with the quarantine, Sia revealed that they are not taking it very well.
“They are both finding it pretty difficult, one more so than the other,” she said. However, they are keeping themselves occupied.
“But they’re both doing things that are really good for them right now, that are really helpful. They’re really doing a lot of educational stuff that’s good for them.”
Recently, the 44-year-old singer announced that she’s planning to be single for the rest of her life and is probably taking care of her adopted sons alone.
She hasn’t revealed any more information about her two sons as she tends to keep her life as private as possible

Share on FacebookYou go Sia. The fact that it wasn't discovered for a good while is just icing. For someone with such an identifiable she's a private and humble person. It wasn't a "Look at me! See what I did!" thing. She does a lot of random good works too.
This is a very admirable thing to do. Many teenagers end up in the streets and drug addiction, or working illegal abusive jobs, because they were kicked out of orphanages, for being too old. The transition between care and autonomy should be smooth, with programs to lead the youth on what to do and where to go next. Hopefully some institutions are like this, and it would be nice if all of them followed.
You're absolutely right. It is really hard on those kids especially when they've been in foster care long term & have no family connections with at least uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. I had 2 friends age out of foster care years ago. Our state gave them a list of programs (all had waiting list & didn't offer much) and $200. That was it to start on their own.
Load More Replies...Never heard of Sia before, but good on her! I've heard many teenagers from the foster care system have huge trouble taking care of themselves once they turn 18.
I didn't know that you could adopt full-grown adults. I hope Papa Bezos gives me a call soon.
Adopting adults is fairly common. Usually it is by a step-parent to a child they helped raise. When the child is 18, he/she no longer needs the permission of the absent biological parent.
Load More Replies...Ppl saying she did it for attention obviously don't realize a lot of things. First it happened awhile ago & it is just now being made public. Also if you've ever watched her interviews & explanations on why she wears the wigs you'd know attention is the last thing she wants. She did something kind & most likely life changing for those kids.
I want to say this is fantastic, however, consider this: A 44y/o woman adopts two 18y/o boys = everyone praises her for being their saviour. Now imagine if a 44y/o man adopted two 18y/o girls. Yeah, exactly...
Men do this without calling it adoption. It's not illegal. Adoption makes it possible for the parent to make medical decisions or visit in an emergency, makes it easier to convery inheritances, etc.
Load More Replies...Tears. These young men will have home base, a mom to be proud of them and vice versa. Sia has sons who will care about her and possibly even grandchildren someday.
This is good! Learned from the documentary THE MASK YOU LIVE IN that children over the age of 2-y/o are difficult to place and BOYS often face being in managed care until they age-out.
The wigs are her trademark. I think it's creative and unique
