Contrary to the name, shower thoughts aren't exclusive to showers. From long walks to mowing the lawn, many everyday activities seem to have the right circumstances to allow the brain to have these little aha moments.

But they also happen to be situations where it's difficult to take notes — turns out that mechanical engagement is perfect for free association, but getting a pen and paper can take you out of the experience.

One TikTok user, however, seems to have beaten the system. He goes by the nickname Shower Thoughts Guy and constantly produces videos that allow him to keep this title. Continue scrolling and check out his best one-liners.

There's lots of places for the homeless to go to get food, shelter, clothes. I'm not saying it's perfect, but this is such an oversimplification and ignores all the good programs that are out there.

From what I know, most shelters aren't places homeless people can permanently stay and it can be unsafe sometimes. The solution is some kind of permanent housing where each individual or family can be safe.

Prisoners are in custody. If you hold someone and they are not free to leave, you gotta feed them. Otherwise, you become the prisoner.

Homeless in major cities receive food, water, coffee, tea, clean used clothing, and even free health care from countless volunteer groups, churches, and other outreach organizations. Shelter is also usually an option.

They actually are given food and water in most major cities. There are many, many outreach groups providing food, water, coffee, tea, clean used clothing, and toiletries at "soup kitchens" or direct to known sites around the city.

I suppose it's because it's easier to feed people stuck in a single place, than it is to feed people spread out throughout a whole city. Since homeless people have no home, they have no fixed address, and are therefore difficult to locate.

Prisoners are slave labor and so contribute (unwillingly) to capitalism - they make a profit for SOMEONE. Homeless people are thought of as jobless (not always true) and so are 'leeches' (not true) and don't give anyone a profit so they are made to suffer. Capitalism is a death cult.

That's because they use prisoners for slave labor. They can't legally do that with houseless people until after they imprison them for being houseless.

Because prisoners are basically used as slave labor for the industrial prison complex, making under a dollar an hour in most states to wrap goods, sew clothes, etc. In fact 70% of goods we buy took advantage of cheap prison labor somewhere down the line. Because homeless people serve no use for capitalism, they don't need to be kept alive

They become person in the care of the government. The government is required to provide food and shelter. Homeless people can be in the care of the government if they apply at various institutions and they can get shelter and food and even job opportunities. As i understand, many don't either because they don't have IDs and cannot have them released again, or because conditions are unsuitable for their needs. Homeless people or quite literally nobody's people.

Because society took away the ability of prisoners to feed themselves. But many think that homeless people are just unwilling to work for food and ignore the social-economic (and mental!) issues around homelessness. No matter how skilled he is, a homeless guy can't walk in off the street unshowered and in dirty tattered clothes and expect to get a job

Not completely true. Homeless people have a choice to get free food and a place to sleep. We can't force them to do anything. Prisoners are forced to stay in conditions they don't like and are forced to stay alive so they can be punished for their crimes.

I think that varies widely by place. Many cities in the US do not have enough space in shelters for all the unhoused people to have somewhere to sleep. Food is pretty available, though.

I agree that homeless people should be sheltered, fed and watered. 100%. The reason prisoners are fed is because they are locked up and they would die if we didn't. Still though. It's a good point.

There haven't been a lot of experiments on why we get random insights, but psychology does have one theory that describes a mental state that seems to foment these kinds of thoughts. It's called the default mode network.

"You become less aware of your environment and more aware of your internal thoughts," John Kounios, a psychologist who studies creativity and distraction at Drexel University in Philadelphia, told WIRED.

The common thing in these activities is they are physically or mentally active, but only mildly — they're also familiar or comfortable enough that we stay engaged but not bored, and last long enough to have an uninterrupted stream of thought.

Kounios explained that our brains typically catalog things by their context: Windows are parts of buildings, and the stars belong in the night sky. Ideas will always mingle to some degree, but when we’re focused on a specific task our thinking tends to be linear.

That Satan punishes sinners is an idea conflating Satan and Hades, as is Satan living in hell. If you're coming from a Christian perspective then...no he doesn't on either count, that isn't in the Bible. Satan is evil because he tempts people into doing wicked acts with loaded promises and lies, thus sending their soul to the eternal fire of hell. He doesn't live in hell, he doesn't sit on a throne and punish the wicked. Satan lies and manipulates to send the souls of others there in place of him.

Kounios likes to explain it with a stack of bricks in your backyard. You walk by them every day with hardly a second thought, and if asked you'd describe them as a building material (maybe for that pizza oven you keep meaning to put together). But one day in the shower, you start thinking about your neighbor's walnut tree.

"Those nuts sure look tasty, and they’ve been falling in your yard."

You suddenly realize that you can smash those nuts open using the bricks in your backyard!

As far as Eureka moments go, using a brick as a nutcracker is pretty lame, but as an illustration of how the default mode network frees the things in your brain from external associations, it works wonderfully. As ideas become untethered, they are free to bump up against other ideas they've never had the chance to encounter, increasing the likelihood of a useful connection. And this guy seems to be aware of that!
