Women Who Are Dating Shorter Guys Share Their Pics In A Viral Twitter Thread
Size doesn’t matter. No, wait, hang on, that’s not what I meant. I was talking about height! So, yeah, height doesn’t matter when it comes to whether or not you’re a good person. Being shorter doesn’t automatically make you less great (we call that concentrated awesomeness). And being taller doesn’t automatically make you virtuous. Even so, the vast majority of women (and voters!) are attracted to tall guys.
A woman named Lizz Adams sparked a debate about dating tall and short guys when she posted a photo of her “king” of a husband who is just 5’5” (165 cm), while she towers over him in the pic. However, she and her husband were of the opinion that tall guys are simply bad people. A lot of cute couples posted photos of them and their shorter partners, while others pointed out the obvious fact that there’s no objective relation between your height and your character. Lizz’s viral thread got nearly 27k retweets and over 190k likes. But far from everyone was happy with what she had to say. However, Lizz cleared up any misunderstandings others had when she talked to Bored Panda towards tall guys.
Lizz told Bored Panda that the internet’s reaction to her short men tweets was big. “The reaction was much bigger than I’d anticipated, to be honest! It blew up after a couple of big accounts retweeted it, and I think it hit a nerve with a lot of people who misunderstood the intention behind it.”
“I’m a comedian, so I speak in hyperbole a lot, but a lot of people thought I was being dead serious or trying to speak badly about tall people which was not my intention. I am taller than my husband, who I love very much, but was just pointing out how arbitrary height requirements are, and that discounting a potential partner based on their height could prevent you from meeting someone really special,” she cleared up any misunderstandings.
“Being a good man has nothing to do with how you look”
We wanted to hear Lizz’s opinion about why a lot of men might feel insecure about being shorter than women. Here’s what she said: “I imagine it’s because of the reaction people have when they see a taller woman with a shorter man. I don’t think the stigma applies as much to non-hetero couples, but there’s this perception that women should be with men that are larger than them and that sort of toxic masculinity makes men feel like they have to be huge and strong to be manly, but being a good man has nothing to do with how you look.”
Lizz also had some advice to give to girls interested in dating shorter guys and guys interested in taller girls. “My advice would be to shoot your shot! Get to know the person you’re interested in, establish a connection, and go for it! If they’re not interested, that’s ok, they’re not the person for you, move on to someone who appreciates you for you, not just your optics!”
Finally, she had this to add: “I just wanted to add that the only thing I regret about my original tweet is making light of a very real disease that affects a lot of people. I didn’t mean to shade alcoholics or imply that all tall people abuse alcohol, it was a flippant tweet I sent off without thinking, and I appreciate the people who brought that to my attention and apologize for any offense in that regard!”
Different opinions about what it means to be tall
Bored Panda conducted an informal (but totally, totally scientific) survey of 6 local women to find out from what height onwards they consider a guy to be tall. The answers varied, naturally.
One respondent said that she considers guys who are 5’10” (178 cm) or more to be tall. While another said that a guy isn’t tall unless he’s at least 6’1” (186 cm). Meanwhile, another woman explained that she wouldn’t even consider dating a man if he were to be shorter than 6’11” (180 cm). A fourth said that she’s 5’3” (160 cm), so any guy her height or bigger than her is tall in her eyes. Respondent number 5 was very generous and said that all guys over 5’9” (175 cm) are tall in her opinion. While the final respondent explained that guys have to be 6’3” (190 cm) if they want her attention.
Scientists explain what human beings tend to think of taller people
Remember, when I mentioned that it’s not just women but also voters who adore tall people? Well, it’s not just an educated guess, scientists actually analyzed the claim.
The vast majority of us instinctively see taller people as being physically stronger. It’s part of our evolutionary path and most animals correlate size with strength as well. This meant that we tended to support tall people as leaders because their strength used to make the difference between life and death in ancient history.
Human beings also tend to think of tall individuals as being more competent at their jobs than they might be which is an offshoot of the Halo Effect. And American voters historically tend to vote for taller candidates, as well.

Couldn’t she have simply made the post about how she is taller than her husband and very happy and proud with that? Did she really had to compare their relationship to other alleged relationships of women dating taller guys who are alcoholics and so on? She has most likely been judged by people due to the difference in height between her and her husband but instead of being a bigger person and just be happy with what they are, she has to generalize that all tall man are bad, also judging other people based on their looks.
I agree with you that she didn't have to be negative but I don't blame her that much... having dated a shorter guy than me in the past, (it didn't work out for unrelated reasons) there was definitely a stigma there... people were judgmental, especially women. He told me stories where he was automatically rejected based on his height and nothing else. Some of the women he wanted to date had criterias on their profile that wouldn't consider dating guys under 6ft... I actually had a friend that said she'd rather date a mean tall guy than a nice short guy. Seriously. Sure its not all women, but, I feel like a lot of shorter guys go through similar and her post is a response to those kind of shallow women.

Agreed. And it feels like she is the one making it an issue. My husband and I are the exact same height and it never dawned on me that it might be an issue or some sort of cultural abnormal. I love wearing heels which puts me 2-3 inches taller and never even thought about it. I always figured that women refusing to date anyone under X height were along the lines of men who won't date a women with boobs smaller than X size.

I really like it when a guy just owns being shorter than his woman. When he just doesn't see it as any kind of problem, her wearing heels or posing to a photo right next to him etc. It shows a confidence and is very sexy. Much more than being tall :)

This really didn't use to be so much of a thing. I'm shocked hearing women I know saying how they'll only date a guy over a certain height! It's almost as bad as men dating by breast size and just the same as men refusing to date a woman because she's 'too tall' Get over yourselves!!

My wife is 5'8" (she will argue that she is 5'6") and I am a short 5'2". I was in the military when we met, and at the time she liked me, initially, b/c I was fit. Fit enough that her "must date tall men" concept was allowing the exception. Now she admits that she cannot believe that she was ever that shallow and that I was the best thing to happen to her. To date I have not done anything to deserve her, but I will always strive to do so.

It’s a stupid standard. And height doesn’t automatically make someone more physically attractive. My fiancé is easily the best looking person I’ve ever seen in real life. He gets hit on constantly, and gets so much positive female (and sometimes male) attention and people really gravitate towards him. Being tall really means nothing. If you are attractive, shortness isn’t going to ruin it. I never thought I’d date a short guy but now I can not imagine being with anyone else. Tall or short, relationships can be awesome or horrible. The point is to not settle for someone horrible just because they are physically attractive / tall. Nobody said tall guys are bad. At 5'2 most guys are taller than me but I've always dated guys on the shorter end of the scale... except my partner now is 6'2. We used to get funny looks sometimes when people see the height difference (they don't now as I'm in a wheelchair). I've had tall girls come up to me and scold me for dating a tall man saying I should have left the tall guys for the tall girls. I'm 5'10" and wore 4" heels when I married my 5'4" husband. My family was horrified because what if he's embarrassed, but their opinion on it didn't matter and he's absolutely okay with it. I’m short, 5’ 1”, and I’ve dated tall men—who are a full foot or more taller than me and short men—who are only a few inches taller than me. I’ve encountered nice guys in both groups and complete turds in both groups as well. I will say that short women tend to get classified as cute and helpless. I get mansplained something fierce by tall men (being short does not equate to being an idiot) but I’ve also dealt with dudes who have serious “short man syndrome” where they feel like they have some unspoken permission to be extra jerky. Moral of the story, there are bad apples in every barrel.

So I pose this question: If you're a woman, would you go on a date with a guy half a foot shorter than you? If you're a guy, would you go on a date with a woman who weighs 60 pounds more than you? And that's fine...just as long as you match the lofty standards you set for your potential mate. Because for example, if you find 6 pack abs sexy in a partner...Guess what? Those with 6 pack abs...probably want to date a partner with a toned stomach also. Want someone smart with a beautiful smile? As a short and small guy of 5'5" and 145 lbs I wouldn't be attracted to a woman with 60 lbs on me. I exercise and eat healthy and would want the same in a partner. You can change your weight but not your height.

I read a quote of a famous Rabbi who was 5 inches shorter than his wife when people asked him about having a wife that much taller than him (back in the 60's when this was less acceptable in society). He said "I married her for who she is, nothing else matters", she gave a similar response. Also explains why they lasted 50something years.

When guys 5'6 and shorter say they have no problem getting women I notice the women they get are always morbidly obese with 3-5 kids from other men. Usually, the extremely obese single mothers make the shorter men chase them to make herself feel like a high-quality woman knowing the shorter guy can't get anything else (it's the Laws of attraction). This mostly affects white and black men 5'6 and shorter being that for some reason we are supposed to be automatically 5'10 and taller by women's standards. I can't believe how many not-short people in the comments are offended by this. I don't understand this crowd. For some reason short men are the last bastion you're allowed to s**t on. It's perfectly okay to be against short men or balding ones, but not dark ones or fat ones or whatever. Good 'ole prejudice hypocrisy...
My ex was 6 inches shorter than me, I think. Or 7 inches. I don't know how tall I am, but he was 5 feet exactly and it was not an issue. Disregarding good men because they're not tall is b******t. (I know i said ex, but we broke up because we grew apart, not because he wasn't and isn't a good man, we just had different life paths).

Here in America this only applies to men at or above 5'3" below that hight we just get laughed at on a good day and on an normal day we just get disgust.

I rather date a shorter, but robust man than a taller but lanky man. The shorter and robust one looks 1000000x better than the tall and lanky one. Height isn't the only thing that makes a man masculine. Using a man's logic, only dainty, skinny flat chested and flat behinds women are the feminine ones because they're the ones who weigh the least out of all the women... but we all know that's not true, right? Same applies to men. Besides, I've seen some shorties with some massive "third legs".

My ex wife was 5'11 and I am 5'4". We were 💯 % good to go until we started spending time with her mother and she made it pretty much intolerable to be around her. Another tall woman, she just never got over her insecurity and had to project it on her daughter.

People need to get over their preconceived notions of the perfect man. I thought my perfect guy was a 6ft blonde hair blue eyed white dude with bare/tan skin and ripped good looks. When guys 5'6 and shorter say they have no problem getting women I notice the women they get are always morbidly obese with 3-5 kids from other men. Usually, the extremely obese single mothers make the shorter men chase them to make herself feel like a high-quality woman knowing the shorter guy can't get anything else (it's the Laws of attraction). This mostly affects white and black men 5'6 and shorter being that for some reason we are supposed to be automatically 5'10 and taller by women's standards. In the pictures above I wonder how many kids these women have from 6-foot men before they decided to date shorter guys to help support her kids since it's harder for a single mom to find another 6-foot man that will date a woman with kids.
Look, I have worked in the bar business. Believe me, there have been stupid drunk women and men of both heights. Alcohol doesn't care or know who you are. To judge tall men as alcoholics is both wrong and sexest.

All these "enlightened" comments from all y'all about how height don't matters. When the fact of the matter is, you probably are all more deferential toward a tall man than you are toward a man who is below average size. All my life I've seen how short men are treated/talked about/thought of differently. Height does make a difference out there in the real world. Acting like it isn't so is insulting to men who have to overcome that perception, and dismisses their experiences.
