Someone Explains Why Couples Often Don’t Understand Each Other In One Simple Illustration
At one point or another, in all relationships, you are bound to feel resentment. Maybe, they didn’t take out the trash when they said they would, or arrived late to dinner yet again – whatever the reason, you probably thought ‘come on try a little harder.’ Well, the next time one of these things happens, perhaps try changing your perspective.
The illustration and story below, while short, is the perfect example of why sometimes switching your view on a situation can go a long way in your relationships. Scroll down below to get some wise words that could make your day better for you and those you love!
While the lesson is a valuable one, people in the comments still poked a little fun at the illustration
This is a perfect representation of Murphy's Law: Oh no, the woman fell off a cliff and is hanging on for her life, BUT WAIT, there is a snake which is biting the woman’s arm, what could possibly be worse than this?… *ROCK FALLS*. Can’t wait to see the next chapter when the dinosaurs arrive.
If you think that falling rocks herald the arrival of dinosaurs, I think you may be going through time in the wrong direction.
Load More Replies...I like how a cartoon about empathy and understanding turned into a Comments argument about gender and age. Well done internet.
And how life is full of pain and everybody dies so nothing really matters (and now I have two seperate earworms: "...'Cause everybody hurts...." and "...But, in the end, it doesn't even matter...")
Load More Replies...I don't think this is about just lack of communication, but lack of understanding and empathy... you can talk all day every day but if the other person is convinced your pain is not a big deal and/or that their own is much more important it'll never amount to anything. It's what can happen, for example, with mental illness and the usual "just get over it" talk, or with couples where one of them takes care of the home and the one who has a job acts as if they do nothing all day. It's about actually acknowledging the other person's struggle.
That's the very problem though. You can't understand or have empathy if you haven't been in the same or a similar situation. You can listen and try and be sympathetic and supportive to someone else's pain but you'll never get it, how can anyone without experience? I have supportive people around me but I still get asked to do things or go places I can't. As you say - at least acknowledge the other person's struggle.
Load More Replies...Well, they die together but at least they aren't pissed off at each other when they do.
Load More Replies...I believe there are other observations that can be made, and possibly some reasonable conclusions. It appears the man has also been bitten by the snake. The snake (dangers) are almost always hidden and can't be seen until you actually "fall". The man is bearing a heavy weight, but takes the time to help another. Although the article spins this as a "relationship" issue, the man and woman may not even know each other. And, finally, in this drawing, which one are you? Are you the man, the woman, the snake, or the rock? Are you willing to take your eyes off your own pain to help another you may not even know? Are you someone that has fallen, coming face to face with a snake and needs help? Are you the snake and, if so, who is your victim? And, finally, are you instead the one that brings pain, suffering, and burdens to another? Thoughts?
An idea of how they got into this(think of those cliffs by oceans in movies/books people jump off of and into the ocean) Girl:Aye,babe,Ima jump into the ocean from the cliff Boy:Bro(that doesn't sound loving but i call my gf bro and my friends babe?) don't do that the water is shallow Girl:lol watch*jumps* Boy:No*catchs her hand* stoner surfer dudes:aye look at that boy lets get this big bolder and drop it on him Girl:ahh a snake boy:ahh a huge bolder on my back they both die,rip
This seems like really bad Panic! at the disco fanfiction and I'm sorry.
Load More Replies...Oh look! The man is supposed to save the woman !!! This is like when doing one ‘s part in the House is ‘helping’ one’s partner ?
That's why i love my wife: I show her that illustration and she said: "cun✝️s"
Man, that hapens to me constantly, i never see the edge of the cliff, and f**k that snake!
I can't get past the fact that the guy is probably already dead. I mean, really. that stone is freaking huge. To put it all into perpsective, this is a picture of a 5 TON rock my work uses because it looks nicer than a bollard. Note the fire hydrant in the background for scale. This rock has stopped a ford F350 with a Triumph Daytona 675 in the back end. (okay, for the record, somebody hits this rock with their car around twice a week. the rock is undefeated. I love that rock.)
They need a rescue team. Sometimes realtionships needs outside help to work. Anyhow this picture is really strange.
that is a really clever way to explain what is going on. Quick question though, if his head is over the edge and he can see, why can't he see the snake? or why can't both of them see the blood?
Reminds me of a cartoon of two men staring at a number on the ground. A 6 and a 9, just looking from a different perspective, neither is wrong or right.
Hmmm....This man is having an affair with this woman, and they were secretly meeting at this spot. He couldn't handle the guilt anymore, and had tried to end the affair with her, but she lost her mind and threatened to tell his wife, his co-workers, even his parents; EVERYTHING, if he refused to see her, and he just couldn't take that chance, he would loose everything; he would be completely ruined. He had no choice.....but he suddenly remembered that she still had the selfies she brought with her of them together, kissing, tucked into her bra..................( the boulder and snake are just bad luck)
I've been married for over 20 years and not a day goes by where my wife and I aren't hanging from a cliff, crushed by a rock, and tormented by a snake. This illustration was a godsend!
