Abandoned Dog Excited To Meet Her Family In A Shelter, But They’re There To Adopt Another Dog Instead

Meet Zuzu, a 2-year-old German Shepherd who had to experience what it’s like to be abandoned. Zuzu had been living with a family that also kept her father but after his death she became depressed and unhappy. One time she jumped over the fence and went into her neighbor’s yard. They weren’t pleased about this uninvited guest and called animal control which took Zuzu to the Downey Animal Care Center in California.

“She is a friendly girl but I sensed sadness and confusion,” Desi Lara, a volunteer at the shelter told The Dodo. “Most dogs zoom around the yard. She treaded softly, nervous to look around.”

However, during one adoption weekend, Zuzu had completely changed. She was running around the shelter’s yard and wagging her tail like crazy – Zuzu was saying ‘Hi’ to her old family. Unfortunately, they were there to adopt a new dog instead of Zuzu. She wasn’t happy enough for them anymore and their solution was to simply replace her.

Because of this, a rescue organization will come to get Zuzu and find her an “exceptional” family. She will be leaving the shelter shortly and, hopefully, ends up in a home that appreciates this dog’s kindness and understands that the depression after her father had passed away was a natural phase she had to go through.

More info: Facebook (h/t: thedodo, buzzfeed)

Zuzu jumped over the home fence and one angry neighbor called animal control

They took the doggie to a shelter where she was depressed

Eventually, her family came to the shelter, but not for her, they were going to adopt another dog

This is how the internet reacted:

Now, a rescue organization is working to find her an exceptional home

Just a thought : If the family had a family member who was depressed, they would have sought medical or other forms of help for the afflicted person. All animals have feelings just like humans - dogs especially, that is why humans bond so well with them.

However, it was not them that discarded her, it was a neighbour reporting the dog, and having it removed that caused the situation, but the family if they still wanted a dog, and did care for her, could have petitioned it, somehow asking for the neighbour to consider changing its mind, unless it was an ongoing issue, not very clear in the article.

WTF!!!! I love German shepherd! My first dog was the one. They are very smart, easy to train, very loyal to the family. What they did to her is unacceptable. I would have banned them for life. Since they are not allow her to mourn, and it's on the news. People would go there and adopt her asap. Don't worry Zuzu, you will have a better home soon.

Updated on FB: the family did NOT adopt another dog. Zuzu will be picked up this Friday by a local rescue. Here is an update on Zuzu, the two year old Shepherd mix who was brought to the Downey Shelter. According to some reports circulating on the internet Zuzu is depressed because her father with whom she lived, died and she was mourning his loss. We would like to report the happy ending that a rescue has agreed to take Zuzu and she will be leaving Downey on Friday, which is the first day that she is legally allowed to be adopted. Pet Adoption Fund in Canoga Park will be taking Zuzu.

You didn't read the article correctly. They didn't take her back. They wanted another dog instead. Any Shelter/pound that would give these people another animal should be Re-staffed. Obviously the employees there can't recognize animal abusers. Who knows that kind of treatment this poor thing got while it was in that home. Maybe that is why chose to flee the house/hard and go to the neighbor's yard to begin with.
