Sexual harassment is in the spotlight at the moment, with women all over the world finding the courage to stand up for themselves and speak out against something that has been tolerated for way too long.
With high profile movements such as the #metoo campaign, as well as a raft of high profile people now being named and shamed for past inappropriate behaviours, there has never been more moral support for women who feel violated to fight back. And now, thanks to this woman’s story shared on Reddit, there is a new weapon against unwanted advances: revenge farts.
“It was MY way of using my ass as a weapon. A weapon against him,” she explained about the incident, which occurred soon after her colleague, Ted, had ‘accidently’ groped her. “I think more women should just do it. Who cares if it’s not feminine? It’s not gentlemanly but accepted to be groped. Why not have men fear the ass?”

Well, the sad component is that it seems like several harassed people would not or could not raise their voices. And with five women as victims, surely more people must have witnessed something. We do not need revenge, we need a culture where everyone is entitled a life free of harassment.
We need to form a culture that teaches young kids that yes means yes and no means no while also teaching that they can always walk away, tell someone else or call it off.

There's a vast number of things that directly or indirectly make people think that women's #1 goal is men. How often have you heard a man offer his opinion on how much makeup women should be wearing, what length of hair he prefers, what they should wear, how women doing this or that will be emasculating? And the opinions are often unsolicited. A lot of men even have trouble comprehending lesbians, because they're not about men. They're A-OKAY with them for a threesome though. In view of all this, feeling entitled to a woman's body... not surprising. Fortunately not too generalized, but not surprising.

A "natural" body reaction (passing gas) is more acceptable than a slap. Its sad, but a slap would be considered an aggressive action.
It depends of culture. In my country (Poland) if man is does something inappropriate towards woman, woman has every right to slap him in the face. It's not consider aggressive action by anyone. It simple action-reaction. Man does something inappropriate (vulgar joke, immoral proposition, unwanted touching, etc) he gets slap in the face. He deserved it.

As much as the idea was great, I think that no woman-man should be forced to introduce any kind of revenge - sexual harassement should not have place in 21st century.
It's unique! LOL. I had a male supervisor who kept doing this to me. If I had complained, no one would have believed me. The owner thought he was so great. This was years ago, but this behaviour is still happening, and women are afraid of retaliation. Too often, THEIR supervisors are "overlooking" it. BTW, the owner was a woman!
I'm glad it worked out for her and the guy got fired. On top of being unprofessional and a predator, it just goes to show that this guy isn't the brightest bulb in the lamp store. He should have never admitted that he touched her with any intent. "It was a joke" isn't an acceptable excuse. "I tripped" or "It was an accident" is what you say and you keep saying it: deny, deny, deny. Has this man learned nothing from our role models in Washington? (Sarcasm.) Unless he learns exactly why his behavior was wrong, he'll probably carry it over into the next job and the next. And, within a lot of industries, people all know one another, so his reputation could be ruined and he will have deserved it.

A co-worker grabbed me, threw me onto a metal table behind me. He took my pants off as I was fighting and screaming and raped me. I went home crying that night scared to say anything. The next day I went to work. Was relieved that my rapist was not scheduled to work that night. Finally got the courage to go to the manager on duty what had happened. He said, "You asked for it." I transferred to another store the very next day and until now never spoke of it again. So forgive me if I don't buy into, "tell someone" campaign. I'm glad it worked for you though. KUDOS

When I was 18 I clerked at a local grocery store. We had a new, creepy supervisor and the other women told me he'd been either hitting on them, poking them or other unacceptable behavior. One day as I was at the cash register, a customer left and the lech sneeked up behind me and grabbed my waist. Yes the others might have gone to the boss and the boss mentioned it in this interview. Or what I think is more the case, is that the female office workers had talked among themselves as in 'be careful around Ted because he does this & this & that too'. So, I think she told the boss, that Ted does this all the time to me, & jane & etc. And she probably told the boss, what all the new females are told about Ted. So, whether the boss knew already, now other people know too.

A few years ago, there was a video arcade in the building where i worked. On my lunch break, I would go in and play pinball. One of the girls that worked there had a habit of rubbing her a*s on the back of my hand while I was trying to play. I told her to screw off. She didn't like that so she accused me of sexually harassing her. The surveilance video told a different story though.
I think that men have got away with bad behaviour for far too long. Even apologising for an inappropriate touch with a leer on their face. Whilst in a queue for my lunch one day at work somebody fondled my bottom, I turned around and asked "who did that" as there were three men behind me all laughing. I smacked the closest ones face really hard, looked at my dinner that had been put on the counter and got two handfuls of custard tart and slapped it on top of the heads of the other two men that were still laughing at the one who got the slap. They never groped anyone in the lunch queue again and nor did anyone else. Fight back as men are really wimps and they get upset if the tables are turned on them.
Why did a fart make them finally believe he was harassing her? When nothing else would? And her slapping him could have gotten her fired? Weird times we live in.
The fact that five women had already complained and it took a public scene for the boss to do anything is disturbing. Why didn't he do something when the first 5 women complained?

Back in the early 70's, I was with a co-worker at a local Lum's. Lums was known for waitresses wearing skimpy bottomed outfits. They also sold beer and one of their signature items was hot dogs steamed in beer. While my friend and I were eating a couple of guys were at a table a couple of feet away ordering. One of the guys could not keep his hands off the waitresses legs and kept moving his hands up to her bottom. No manner of maneuvering by her could keep her body out of his reach. I got tired of it and stuck the back of his hand with my fork, since it was practically in my face anyway. Needless to say, he snatched his hand away faster than you could blink. But being half drunk anyway, I don't think he figured out who or what caused the pain in that hand. I was raised different I guess, to treat everyone as I would want to be treated and NEVER, EVER mistreat a woman, no matter how they are dressed.

I don't think it matters what you do - short of actually attacking them with a lethal weapon - a knife would get you into trouble, but a thump over the head with a book or a waste paper basket or a slapped face would be well done.

A clearly spoken, for others to hear, "back off" at the first brush by would likely stop it in its tracks. Next brush by, a loud "I said, back off!" Third time, take him by the arm and straight into the bosses office, while yelling, "Come with me, that was your third strike and you are out!".
ANY method is acceptable, and I do mean any. Claim your space back, ladies, and if someone gets butthurt over a sexually harassing a*****e being treated badly then you know who needs it next.

The problem with this is that it undermines setting up an effective, official way to complain. I doubt this would normally lead to the guy getting fired, so he'd have been free to continue with other women. Five women complaining on the record likely would.
Things that tend to happen to women who complain of harassment at work: being ignored, being branded as hysterical, being harassed MORE, being demoted, being moved, being fired. And sadly, there aren't really any way for women to tell which work environment will be safe from that happening to them.
