19-Year-Old Black Cat Turns Into A Marble Beauty, Most Likely Due To A Rare Skin Condition
Back in 1997, a man named David bought a black cat, not knowing that one day it will get a marble patterned fur. His owner recalls the moment he met the cat: “Scrappy was sitting on his own and, though he was a beautiful cat, we didn`t think others would regard him to be as cute as his siblings. I made the decision to take Scrappy as I knew he would be the last one to be taken, if at all,” David told MeowBox.
The cat’s coat pattern started getting white when he was 7-years-old. Most likely, this is due to vitiligo, a genetic mutation that is extremely rare in cats. This doesn’t affect the kitty’s health in any way, and the 19-year-old black and white cat is happy, healthy, and totally kicks ass! Yup, that’s where his name comes from: “Despite his age, he [picks scraps] with the neighborhood cats… I guess you could say that he rules the street.”
The owner added: “Scrappy is a total diva! He isn’t the best cat to take photos of as most of the time he looks the other way or walks away… He can also be quite grumpy at times.” Nevertheless, the guy adores his pet and says Scrappy is very affectionate towards him. David is the only person that gets to rub Scrappy’s belly, and, seeing how beautiful the grumpy ‘nordic god’ cat is, we couldn’t be more jealous!

The cat’s coat started getting white at the age of 7, probably due to vitiligo, a skin condition
This doesn’t affect the kitty’s health in any way, and the 19-year-old senior cat totally kicks ass!

Share on FacebookI have a solitary, seemingly grumpy cat also... my mum rescued her from a dumpster and she's definitely got a lot of street in her. But when she is in the mood to be sweet, she showers the few people she trusts in so much love and affection (and cat hair haha). There's something i love about cats with this type personality, they're very direct in a way few people are
Fascinating that the vitiligo affects the fur color. I wonder if people with vitiligo also experience differentiation in hair color, as well. Beautiful and intriguing!
Yessir! I'm one of them and where a vitiligo spot of mine touches my eyebrow fur grows white.
Load More Replies...So beautiful, and majestic looking!!! Too bad us women folk can't pet him!!!
Almost makes me wish my black cat would get vitiligo. Then we would match!
Vitiligo affects the pigment of both the skin and fur/hair. For example, a normal black cat has drak grey/black skin, but if you were to shave this cat his skin would have blotches of white
Load More Replies...I would've liked to see pictures of him when he was black, then when his coat first started changing
He's gorgeous!!! One thing I have to note is that cats keep people awake when they LET them do it. When I brought 8 month old Tely home, she wanted me to wake up and play at all hours of the night. I'd sit up and say "I'll put you out of the bedroom if you stop!" Then I'd lie down and she'd do it again, then I'd put her out of the bedroom and shut the door. If she cried, I'd just put earplugs in and go back to sleep, if it was night when I was more ill (I have MS, and must get good sleep at night). On nights I was feeling better, I'd let her back in, then put her out again if she started up again. This went on for two months, although getting less frequent. After about six months, she was only doing it occasionally, to "test the boundaries", and she'd the same response. By the time she was a year and half old, she'd mostly stopped, only trying it only rarely. Funny thing is, she learned those words, "I'll put you out", and she now stops pouncing as soon as I say it.
Absolutely gorgeous! I, too, have a blsck cat. She has stary whit hairs in varying places. I'm talking one or two here or there. I saw Scrappy and got to wondering about my kitty. Time will tell.
It's rare for cats that's why it said 'a skin condition that is extremely rare in cats' xxx
