Woman Shares Tips On How To Practice Love Languages On Yourself

It’s crazy how much pressure we put on ourselves. Think of the last time you thought you’re not good enough or could have done better. Think of how many times you’ve looked at yourself in the mirror with so much repulsion, you wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy. It sometimes feels like the promised land of self-love is just too far away.

And one woman named Jessicah Pierre is giving us much-needed motivation to transform this redundant narrative of self-loathing into the self-love we truly deserve. She started a Twitter thread with the caption “I don’t know who needs to hear this but practice your love languages on yourself” and it blew up on social media with 110.2K retweets and comments and 330.4K likes.

From telling yourself words of affirmation to giving yourself acts of service and spending quality time alone, let’s take a look at Jessicah’s wonderful pieces of advice below.

Bored Panda reached out to the woman behind this viral Twitter thread, Jessicah Pierre, who’s a political writer and founder of the Queens Company, a leading organization in Boston dedicated to empowering women of color by hosting networking events, workshops, and by providing a mutual support system.

Jessicah told us that she was already “on a self-love and healing journey prior to the pandemic,” but she has been thinking of “growing personally and moving past her past traumas around love and relationships, more than ever.”

“A friend of mine told me to be more actionable about how I practice self-love and self care so I started exploring what that would look like,” Jessicah said. She then turned to Twitter and reflected on what she has been doing to love herself daily.

The motivational speaker believes that “no one will ever be able to love us in the way that we desire unless we know how to do that for ourselves.”

She stresses that self-awareness should be a top priority in our lives. “Spend time with yourself, reflect, unlearn, and relearn until you actually know who you are to your core.”

“It sounds simple, but society, social media, and our families influence a lot of who we are.” As a result, Jessicah believes “it’s easy to lose our true essence amongst the noise.”

But it’s not always an easy journey. Often, self-awareness teaches you about not only your good traits, but also about your not-so-good ones. “While this may seem like a moment to beat ourselves up, it’s actually a moment to practice self-compassion and grace,” Jessicah explained.

Jessicah also believes that being good to others always starts from within. “Only when we are able to be compassionate and graceful to ourselves, we can extend that to others and that’s really a lot of what our world needs right now.”

Good post. People need to realize that they need to take care of themselves and that there's not any wrong with that.

Could we ban that one idiot down below? His feeble attempts of humor are getting quite boring and it seems he's only on this site to try to offend people.

I was taught that if I practice self-love I'd go blind and hair would grow on my palms. /s
