People Start Celebrating Sean Astin’s Career After Pics Of Him Holding An Otter Go Viral
Twitter works in mysterious ways. But every once in a while, it gives people precisely what they need. And this weekend, it turned out to be a few cute photos of Sean Astin cuddling with an otter. Everything began when Sam (@samxgrace) from New Zealand tweeted them to her followers, and things quickly went crazy, resulting in people appreciating Sean’s acting career and amazing movie characters.
“I found the photo on Facebook!” Sam told Bored Panda. “It was posted by the organization Nurtured by Nature which does ‘swim with otters’ experiences. I reposted the photos [on Twitter], honestly because I love otters! I thought the photos were so sweet especially the kissing one and I just wanted to share them with my followers. I never imagined that it would be Twitter trending this hard. I woke up to about 8,000 likes on Friday morning and by the end of the day, it had about 60,000 and Sean Astin himself had tweeted me that I rock!”

Sam adored both Stranger Things and the popular actor’s involvement in the series. “I’ve always loved horror-based programs and movies that have kids as the main characters. It’s almost twisted but in a great way,” she said. However, like most, Sam likes Astin’s other characters as well. “[He’s] an incredible actor, I first saw him in Lord of the Rings. As a Kiwi, it’s basically a right of passage to watch that series growing up. But I also adored him in Stranger Things and of course, as Ed in his new series on Netflix, No Good Nick. He always makes his characters the most lovable on every show he’s on!”

After noticing that he was trending, Astin immediately tried to find out why

So people reassured the actor that it wasn’t just because he appeared on Stranger Things

As with many similar pop culture moments, fans have used the opportunity to praise the famous actor for his iconic roles in 90s movies like The Goonies, Toy Soldiers, Rudy, Encino Man and 50 First Dates. The prolific actor was propelled back into people’s radars when he played the beloved Bob Newby in Stranger Things season two.
One of the latest gigs for this 90s icon, No Good Nick is an original Netflix sitcom starring Siena Agudong as Nicole, a teenage con artist who goes by the name “Nick,” pretending to be a distant cousin of the Thompson family to rob them. Astin and Melissa Joan Hart play Ed and Liz Thompson, who take in Nick and — to her surprise — treat her like a member of the family, making it harder for her to rob them.

Seems like the kinda guy you can have a beer with, then he let's you stay in a really nice guest bedroom and you makes eggs and bacon for breakfast and gives you a lift to the station... I reckon he's that kinda guy.
Can I please upvote this a thousand times? I just LOVE Sean Astin. Such a sweet guy and my all time favourite hero. PS: Duffer bros., I still need a word with you for killing Bob, grrrrrr.....
Ooh Sean Astin feelgood posting? EXCELLENT!!! He came out to Fan Expo in Vancouver, made EVERYONE in the Q&A Goonies (b/c an audience member asked him - since he was getting *picked on at work* for liking them, what fools) - AND next decided to do a local run - showered in his hotel room then came BACK to the con to deal with us dorky fans. Dude ROCKS.
Sean Astin is the man! The fact that he is hanging out with an Otter makes him that much more awesome! Otterly amazing!
No matter what other roles Sean Astin plays, he'll always be Samwise Gamgee in my mind.
Yeah I was surprised the first twitter post was Sean Astin from stranger things. Like or LoTR?? 50 first dates was pretty funny in too
Load More Replies...Sooo I have to admit this... on my hour lunch breaks at work when I don't go and have lunch with my hubs who works close by, I sit in the backseat of my car at watch The Goonies. I put my chair back as far as it can and I watch this on a little DVD player. I'm almost 40 and have ALWAYS adored Sean! And him in 50 First Dates.... Bwahahahaha!
Never really paid him a lot of attention one way or the other before. Now, I think I love him!
HE IS...you know how sometimes you meet your "heroes" and are.. sorely disappointed... because they're cold, aloof or just... really act to everything you say like "wow. You are so wasting my time" - NOT Sean Astin!!! He is just a welcoming "everydude".

Sean Astin is a freaking humble, grounded national treasure! I'm all for him trending with a new generation because of his role in Stranger Things, but those of us who are his age (me) know he first nailed roles in iconic movies like The Goonies, The War of the Roses, Memphis Belle, Where the Day Takes You, Toy Soldiers, Rudy... and I've not even made it past the early 90's! He deserves every bit of positive attention he gets. I'd like to see more of him on the screen and people like him (Keanu Reeves).
I just noticed the generation gap. Kids and teens know Sean Austin from the Stranger Things, we adults grew up with Sam and Frodo. He is the sweetest.
Don't forget he voices a tmnt! Ah Sean Aston where would we be without U?!
I'm sure a lot of you remember him from Goonies and LOTR. There's multiple generations here that know there's something about a genuine good heart that transcends all time and generations. Mention his name and it makes people think warm, happy, fuzzy thoughts. Sean Astin has been a part of my life - through his work in film - for my entire teenage and adult life! 30 years and still going strong ❤️❤️
He seems to be a genuinely good guy, who also just happens to nail every role he takes on. All around kudos.
