Turns Out, Scented Candles Have Become “An Unexpected Victim Of The Pandemic” As Negative Reviews On Them Spiked After Covid Broke Out
Data is beautiful. Don’t believe me? Go check this subreddit, r/DataIsBeautiful, that proves just that. Even more so, data can be intriguing, and some correlations—hard to believe. Recently, one interesting correlation was found by the mighty internet researchers. One Twitter user tweeted that “there are angry ladies all over Yankee Candle’s site reporting that none of the candles they just got had any smell at all.” Soon enough, Kate Petrova—a research assistant in the Harvard Study of Adult Development—further explored this correlation that showed fascinating results. Scroll down below to find out more.

One known side effect of the Covid-19 virus is the loss of smell and taste. As it turns out, since the pandemic broke out, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of negative reviews of scented candles, with the majority complaining they can’t smell the candles at all.

Share on FacebookVisited friends recently. The smell of "Pumpkin Waffles" in their house was quite distinct. I therefore conclude I don't have covid19.
For anyone reading this: you can have covid19 without losing your sense of smell

Speaking of covid, this isn't about candles, but symptoms. I currently have covid with my mom (going into week three). We don't have severe symptoms. The first day I had insane pain in my arms and legs (I was wondering if anyone else experienced this. A lot of people at my mom's job tested positive and had something similar). I've been coughing every single day, it was going down but now it is starting up again. My throat is really sore at this point. No fever, no tiredness, just this coughing. I heard it lasts for a few weeks, but I would like other's input on this if that is okay. It's getting difficult to talk. Oxygen is okay (I'm staying 99-100 and mom is about 96). She has some discomfort in her chest though. We are going to get our lungs and heart tested after we come back negative. I just want to know what to expect, long-term wise for mild symtpoms. I know people who have trouble breathing and one who has a severe case of burping... it's just... random...
You can find any correlation if you want too (that is used a lot by politicians or lobbyists), spurious correlations. He's a cool website about it: https://tylervigen.com/spurious-correlations chart-5fc5...b-jpeg.jpg
Look, all this data is interesting but I have a few questions/concerns: A) Let's be honest, ever since they got sold, Yankee Candle's quality has been going downhill. They do sell candles that have little to no scent. B) Are there simply more reviews because people are buying more candles because of the stay at home orders? Again, this is all interesting but I feel like it's too early to use Yankee Candle reviews as the go to for Covid clusters?
The UK reply was on perfumes. Unless Yankee Candles are now also making Davidoff aftershave, it's more than just a single company making smelly things.

Oh I can! My cat is 20yo, so I've had plenty of time to get used to it...it still reeks!

They are highly carcinogenic and produce a lot of soot when they vaporize, and if you burn a lot of candles, you're basically poisoning yourself. Burn only soy wax candles, or the gold standard, beeswax. Beeswax is a natural material that burns hotter, and produces less soot. Don't pollute the air in your home.
If you are home more often, ie like due to COVID, people just might get used to the smell, like they would their morning perfume, and not smell the candles, no faulty noses, no faulty candles.
Candle packaging boxes provide you the best candle box packaging, which will protect your customer as well as give it a perfect look.
Personally I was never particularly impressed by Yankee Candle candles even before Covid. For their price point their smell was either something I could find cheaper in a Walmart, or have easily found a more aesthetically pleasing candle in unscented that didn't look so boring.
