Not everything in nature is as beautiful or as hilarious as we're mostly used to. It has a dark side, too, and I'll completely understand if this list by Bored Panda forces you to build a pillow-fort in your living room and avoid going outside for a week.

From a mama centipede protecting its babies to a wasp colony building a nest around a discarded doll, these pictures feature some of the scariest things Mother Earth has to offer. Scroll down to test how brave you are, and vote for your favorite entries.

I just hope that the butterfly doesn't have a snake head. Flying snakes, that's what we need.

Good work ethic. Hope the eggs hatch before the food spoils.

If you zoom in, you can see one is hatched (with egg shells at the edge of the lemmings) - and another might be starting to hatch.

The owl only killed the first lemming. The rest of them just keeled over as they did the lemming thing and followed.

Smart! Store cupboard right there, no need to leave the babies to go off hunting!

"His" nest or hers? Good planning either way. Now they can stay home with the babies and not need to keep popping out for food.

I saw on Nat. Geo. documentary: 24 hour sun trips the owl father's brain into not sleeping and just hunting 24/7 until his kids and mom are just stuffed but he cannot stop. That is why this happens. Poor guy, surprised he doesn't just drop dead. Hey Mother Nature! We need an adjustment over here! LOL

They’re lemmings... it probably only killed one at first but then the rest followed the owl to the nest and were killed there
