Poor bat, I hope the photographer could remove that parasite somehow and kill it. The beast, not the bat. Bats are "useful", they eat a lot of mosquitoes and other insects.
That looks painful and the look on the bat's face doesn't help lower that supposition. Somebody help that bat get that spider off its head!

Could this be a one off? I can't find anything anywhere that says this is a known 'thing' for this fly to do. Yes it's blood sucking but it does that to all sorts of animals in various places.
Perhaps on the head like that, but those flies really do live attached to their host's body their entire life.
