Jokes aside, there are some good coronavirus-related news stories and lately, the thing everyone's talking about is the Oxford vaccine. The BBC reported that data from early-stage human trials of a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University has positive results. It appears safe and triggers an immune response. Trials involving 1,077 patients showed the injection led to them making antibodies and T-cells that can fight the coronavirus. It is, however, still too soon to know if this is enough to offer protection and larger trials are underway.

The vaccine, which is called by a name that could very well be a gamer's nickname, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, isn't the only one that's providing us hope. The New York Times reports that researchers around the world are developing more than 160 vaccines against the coronavirus, and 26 vaccines are already undergoing human trials. Typically, vaccines require years of painstaking research and testing before reaching the public, but scientists are racing to produce a safe and effective vaccine by next year.

Until then, we'll have to make do with jokes and memes.

My view is that the American public has been conditioned (or brainwashed, it basically amounts to the same) to respond emotionally to political questions. This makes it easy to influence them in order to keep them occupied with emotionally laden issues, abortion being one example, while the ultrarich and the powerful mega-corporations quietly go about their business. Trump was/is a weirdo made-in-heaven president for them, a true master at distraction as he is.

This. I will continue to wear my mask and gloves when I go out in public, and just deal with the foggy glasses. Honestly, I want to go back to normal just as much as the anti-maskers. But let me tell you this; if you continue to refuse to wear your mask and keep prolonging my torture, I will take action, call you out and shame you VERY PUBLICLY for being such an asshole. If that makes me a busybody, so be it—-I will be a live busybody long after you’re a dead asshole.

If the mask is somewhat sealed around your nose and cheeks, fogging doesn't happen. You can put a wire, twist-tie, etc. in your cloth masks to mold them around your nose. It works. -Glasses wearer.

Prevent your glasses or goggles from fogging up with a little bit of household dish soap. Apply a few drops to a clean cloth, and rub it on the lenses, both inside and out. Once the soap has dried, buff it off with a cloth, and you'll be seeing clearly again, without fogging :D

Ian Osmond

Not wrong. And I wear mine anyway. (If you get a good seal around the top, around your nose, it's not AS bad. Generally, if your glasses are fogging up, your breath is getting out and other people's breath is getting in unfiltered, so if you can get a better seal, it makes the whole thing work better, besides fogging your glasses less. But it's annoying anyway.)

Ugh, yes. The Fog (but that’s a different movie script). I will wear a mask everywhere I go that’s around other people (I have a box of them in my car, along with a box of rubber gloves to wear with my mask), because I want to be a survivor and not a casualty. But I will be overjoyed when we finally beat this bug, and don’t need them anymore. ***In the meantime, I read that hospital staff train themselves to exhale down to reduce the fog when they’re wearing their masks. I’ve tried it and it pretty much works. You have to be mindful of it, though, since you’re retraining yourself to breathe out differently.

I've been very lucky to not have fogging issues with the kind of mask I wear at the moment. I think it has to do with two things I previously only saw as disadvantages - a bumpy nose (plenty of surface area to get both the shaped wire at the top of the mask and my glasses positioned perfectly) and the very unfashionable shape of my glasses. They were 'something different' when I bought them, plus I was desperate. Either way, I count my blessings that when I have to leave the house, I can see with a mask on as well as I can see without a mask on (not wonderfully, I need to brave the outside more and see my optometrist!) Of the seven people in my household six wear glasses and everyone else struggles with this to some degree. You have my condolences, and thank you (really) for dealing with this frustration and inconvenience for your health and the health of everyone around you.

It still let's warm air up to steam up our glass. I'm considering double sided tape to prevent it from fogging my glasses up. Contacts are not an option for me. And fitting it to the bridge of your nose still allows venting straight up onto the inside of my lenses.

Actually, I really don't want to be one of *those* people, but this means that your mask isn't tight enough. The air shouldn't be coming out of the top and fogging up your glasses at all. Or you can put it under your glasses and make it bigger for your chin. But if this happens, you're doing something wrong :((

HAHA yeah! As a person who have to wear glasses all the time (because my vision sucks a lot), this is super relatable. Usually, the only issue is that my glasses would only fog up if I go from a cold place to a warm place but now, it'd happen all the time when a pair of glasses and a mask is combined... I actually found a towel that can be used in order to prevent this fog issue from happening but unfortunately, it has limited use. As in, it is only usable for 40 times and after that, the towel wouldn't be effective anymore. I wish it'd be a permanent thing or something.

put your mask on properly and you get very little in the way of fogged glasses. Pinch the middle of the mask wire, then bend it out just a bit on each side to make a W shape, put the mask on hold the W with one hand, pull down the bottom of the mask with the other. Now put your glasses on over the mask. Or purchase a glass wax ( I use one called "Cat Crap") and use it to fog proof your glasses.

If this is happening to you, your mask is poorly fitted. The air you're breathing out should be going through the mask, not fogging up your glasses (like scarves and balaclavas have done all my life, trust me I know the struggle!). You might not be able to fix it with supplies in your home, in which case, still better than no mask - but try sewing a pipe-cleaner into the mask along the top and bending it around your nose. That worked for me, anyway.

I wear glasses all the time and I never have this problem; I don't understand why some people do. Maybe they wear masks without nose wires, or aren't adjusting them properly?

Justin Seagull

A lot of the nose wires can still leave the tiniest gap for gas to escape through, the best solution is anti-fog cloth or something of the sort.

The Pandemic Team was created after the Ebola crisis. In other words, when politicians finally realized just how much modern global trade and travel contribute to diseases spreading worldwide before we even realize it. They understood how keeping an eye on rising disease spread, using reliably reported data to track them, statistics to predict potential paths of the spread, and sending trained professionals to help contain it, can help us either prevent—-or at least prepare for—-possible global outbreaks, since prevention is our best protection, especially if the disease has no cure/vaccine. You know, like COVID-19.
