German artist Tim Bengel has developed a unique style of painting by using two uncommon materials for the craft – sand and gold. Starting with a sticky empty canvas, Tim creates a design with black sand and gold (this “drawing” can take weeks), and then fills the rest with white sand. When Bengel dumps the remaining sand, a picture appears. In fact, Tim uses so much sand, that even he actually witnesses the image himself only when the sand is tipped off.
