Anti-Vaxx Woman Blames The Government After Samoa’s Measles Outbreak Kills 71 People
Samoa, a small country with a population of around 200,000 people is facing a devasting measles outbreak. So far, the government announced 4,898 measles cases, with 71 fatalities since the outbreak began in October. To fight the epidemic, the government has introduced compulsory vaccinations which made anti-vaxxers furious. One prominent figure of the notorious movement, Taylor Winterstein, a wife of a well-known Samoan rugby player, has compared the government’s actions to Nazi Germany and blamed it for causing the outbreak.

According to The World Health Organisation, Somoa’s total population’s immunity has been estimated to be 30-40%. Over the last couple of years, the country has faced plummeting rates in vaccination.
The sharpest decline happened in 2018 when two Samoan nurses mistakenly administrated muscle relaxants alongside vaccines, which resulted in the deaths of two babies. The incident fueled people’s mistrust in vaccines making them vulnerable to anti-vaxxers’ agendas.
The first victim of the measles epidemic in Samoa was claimed on October 13 and sadly many others have followed. The government declared a state of emergency and made vaccinations mandatory. This decision sparked a backlash from Taylor Winterstein, who alongside her sister, organizes workshops on the dangers of vaccinations. The woman charges from $200 to $2000 per ticket and attempts to teach people to ‘make informed choices’. Recently, the woman compared mandatory vaccination to Nazi Germany in her Instagram account.
“Remember when I said Samoa was TURNING into Nazi Germany?!” she wrote. “If you want to be injected with vaccines, GO AHEAD, inject away but UNDERSTAND there are DISTRESSED PARENTS in Samoa who DO NOT want their children injected with this toxic MMR vaccine and are LITERALLY HIDING in their homes to avoid Govt authorities who are forcing a one-size-fits-all medical procedure…hmmm Sound familiar??” she added.
The woman offered her own explanation for the recent measles outbreak. In her Facebook post, she put the blame on Samoa’s government. “The responsibility lies with the Samoan Government and the Ministry of Health who must be held accountable,” she said.
“Because…
It is their incompetence in shipping supplies of Vitamin A, the recognised treatment of measles and to be made available to Samoan hospitals as a PRIORITY before shipping over more vaccines.
It is their failure to focus on the particular STRAIN of measles occurring and to disclose whether in fact it is the vaccine that is contributing to the current epidemic.
It is their failure to educate all Samoan people, especially parents, on this childhood infection and how to recognise symptoms, quarantine and treat at home.
It is their failure to give Samoan citizens TRUE INFORMED CONSENT before being forcibly injected with a live virus vaccine.
It is their disregard to nutrition and lifestyle choices for disease prevention, especially amongst children, rather stating that vaccines are the “ONLY CURE”.
It is their disregard to building the infrastructure for the benefit of overall public health that could see every village in Samoa have access to clean water and proper sewerage systems – instead of the infrastructure in Apia where monstrous office buildings have been built for the Government.
It is their use of medical fascism to mandate a vaccine on the entire population of a democratic nation without exception and regardless of an individual’s health status, that will see Samoans as young as 6 months of age, suffer for ‘the greater good’.
It is their lack of foresight to see that malnutrition and Vitamin A deficiency in Samoa, which has been carefully recorded and understood by Samoan authorities for years, were precursors to this disaster and that which has led to the unnecessary loss of lives.”
Samoa’s Communications Minister Afamasaga Rico Tupai told TVNZ that: “The anti-vaxxers unfortunately have been slowing us down. We’ve had children who have passed away after coming to the hospital as a last resort and then we find out the anti-vaccine message has got to their families and that’s why they’ve kept these kids at home.” He warned the anti-vaxxers: “Don’t get in the way, don’t contribute to the deaths.”

Share on FacebookI don't understand the antivaxx culture and probably never will. Vaccinations are not a bad thing and they don't cause any illnesses. The doctor who did that study has been debunked and I think he lost his medicine license. It seems being antivaxx is more a fad than anything else and if that's the case that is so sad. Vaccinating your children is a life or death situation, it is not some sort of trend. Please do for your children what your parents did for you and protect them. Please get them vaccinated. Also, get off the picket line and get a job. There is a difference between protesting a legitimate cause and just wanted social media likes.
I actually understand it but I hate it. Pharmaceutical companies are so crooked, and sometimes in cahoots with doctors, that no one trusts them any more. However, you have to do a risk analysis, as with anything that can help/harm your kid (or you). I looked into the autism issue early on but decided I'd rather have a live baby with autism than a dead kid with no autism, even before the studies came along refuting that allegation. I also figured if it was JUST the vaccine, then most kids would have autism. The fact that they didn't told me that it was possible some kids had a pre-existing condition that made them susceptible AT WORST. That whole thought process took me about 5-10 minutes total. I don't know what's wrong with people, unless they'd just rather have no kid than an autistic kid.
Load More Replies...Taylor Winterstein is not making informed choices. She chose the side that suits her beliefs, and no amount of logical and empirical scientific data is going to sway her. People like her make me so angry. My brother once asked me the difference between being ignorant and dumb. I said: "If you don't have all the information, you can be ignorant. If you have all the information, and you still make bad decisions, you are just dumb." Taylor is one dumb broad.
I call it purposeful ignorance. She informed. She's just making money off dead babies.
Load More Replies...Stop calling them "anti-vaxxers." It gives them undeserved legitimacy. Call then what they are: plague enthusiasts.
These stupid bitches have killed over 70 people in Samoa as surely as if they'd lined them up and shot them. I loathe scum like them. They're as bad as any gangbanger, as any meth dealer, as any psycho with a gun who shoots up a schoolyard. ...///... In fact, a useful demonstration for these killers with Botox would be to line up 70 children and have them stand behind a grave stone.
Well, not quite that surely. Anti-vaxxers need to be stopped and debunked, but they didn't go into a night club and start shooting. Exaggeration weakens facts.
Load More Replies...i am tired and tired of these people's b******t. please no more anti-vaxxers.
They're playing on fear to push their b******t, baseless agenda. This is killing people.
And make money off gullible people. The skimpy outfit in her workshop ad proves she’s after attention more than credibility. Much like other “influencers” (e.g. people who can’t get a real job) who take disrespectful pictures at sites commemorating tragedy, or destructive ones in delicate places, she doesn’t give a fat rat’s a*s about the damage she’s doing.
Load More Replies...I've written elsewhere about this on BP, and will never tire of saying this: VACCINES SAVE LIVES. Every single claim by anti-vaxxers is debunked by actual *science*, ignores basic laws of physiology, chemistry, etc., and they're killing people. The end.
Honestly, whilst it sounds harsh, If I were in charge, I'd make it so that vaccines are mandatory by law, the only way you're getting out of it is if you genuinely have some kind of medical reasoning (noted by an actual doctor) saying you are unable to have them. Antivaxxers are a danger both to our sanity, and to our immune systems. :/
It should be law, 100% to hell with peoples personal opinions, this is for the greater good.

Listen Thundercunt, you and all your idiot anti vaxxer twat followers need a one way trip to anthrax island. Vitamin A to treat measles??? Time to thin the herd, starting with you.
Her shirt says "Vaccines can cause injury and death". Measles is causing deaths. Those poor babies. Why wish that on someone?
I'm horrified at the story about those babys who died because nurses gave them musclerelaxants or whatever it was. How can that even happen?
Errors like that happen way more than you may know. Over worked medical staff get tired and make mistakes. I don't know the stats but they are pretty significant.
Load More Replies...She’s a f****n moron, let’s see how she feels when her kids die because she chose to be so dumb
I wouldn't be surprised if she'd gotten her kid vaccinated in secret. It's telling that she charges so much for her rally. She's just using her fame adjacency status to Make Lots of money.
Load More Replies...I find it deeply disturbing that she's profiting off what is essentially advertising something that has now been announced as one of the top 10 threats to global health (WHO, 2019).
"Making informed decisions" The antivaxxer says. However there is little to no information to support their claims.
You know, I have always known that anti vaxxers are a bit thick, but hearing a*****e after a*****e trying to convince the world that vaccines are dangerous has made me realise, that any antie vaxxer that has heard the facts, but still wont change, are s**t stains on this planet and should be given punishment for potentially killing the poor souls who can't get a vaxxine, like those with allergies. Besides, in these types of countries, shoudnt anti vaxxers get mandatory injections too?
All of the families of the deceased should sue her for wrongful death. Money talks (segue: her charging $200-$2000 to attend her "workshop"). Maybe she'd actually get properly educated. I wonder how she'd feel if her kid died from measles? Would being told that if she had only vaccinated him would have prevented it actually wake her up?
Didnt know people pay so high to be told how to kill their own children
She should be comparing herself to Nazi Germany, she is causing deaths. In the USA, I think she could (or should) be charged with 2nd or 3rd degree manslaughter.
bruh antivaxxers make me soooooo angry ahhh i wanna rant so much about them- if i'm gonna say one thing they're all freaking misinformed about what a freaking vaccine is... everything they think about them is complete bs and i literally dont understand!! What i really want to know is what caused them to believe those crazy ideas like that?!?
It's not just the dead people...many of the ones who survive will have life-long issues. From deafness to decreased immunity to other diseases. It's awful. And look at the people on the picket line, all white, presumably raised and educated off the island.
If the anti-vaxxers are so "educated" about the non existance of herd immunity and "big pharma consipiracy", they should probably be selectively socially isolated and made to live without the doctors they doubt so much on just "organic" food and "vitamins";they themselves promote for the rest of their "remaining" lives.
These people really out here thinking they got disease figured out and s**t
The government is not responsible for educating someone who absolutely refuses to be educated. They are responsible for public health and have the right to follow best practices re vaccines. Measles is particularly bad because it if crazy contagious and it can wipe out part of your immune system for years to come, making you vulnerable to other diseases.
"Vaccines can cause injuries and death" She's right... she's clearly brain damaged.
I'd give my life savings to punch this woman in the face

I may not fully agree with her stance, but she makes some valid and well considered points that I can take on board as an intelligent person. To say she's just blaming the government is to simplify and demonize her argument. The real tragedy of today's world is that it is full of non-thinking people who merely seek to shout others down and drown them out for having an unpopular or different opinion. People who think different are simply condemned without any examination of their ideas. Dialogue, dissent and freedom of thought have all been replaced with mob rule. Maybe our brains need vaccination to enable us to reason again.
The problem is that many people aren't scientists. They don't know how to properly evaluate scientific evidence to make an informed choice. They fall for misinformation. The public in general is easily scared. They may think they are informed, but they are falling for conspiracy theories. They may have studied for many hours online, but they haven't studied for the many years in universities that doctors have. What you seem to be saying is if somebody thinks that they made an informed choice, even if it is misinformed, it is ok because it just effects them and their children. But, this is another huge problem: herd immunity and the vulnerable immunity compromised. A misinformed decision can effect thousands of people drastically and detrimentally.
