Woman Quits Her Job And Sails Around The World With Her Rescue Cat
Liz Clark, 34, a self-proclaimed “she-pirate,” has been sailing around the world since 2006 when she quit her job as a bartender in San Diego, California. Clark was given a Cal 40 sailboat on the condition that she would document her adventures around the world. In 2013, “Captain Lizzy” welcomed a 6-month-old kitten that she rescued aboard.
“She has adapted to living surrounded by water,” Clark said of her cat companion to Buzzfeed. The cat, named Amelia (also lovingly referred to as Tropicat), enjoys fishing from the boat, walking on the beach and hiking. “She has to go out of a cat comfort zone often,” Clark added. “But I think she now understands that I will keep her safe and she will have a lot of fun in the end. She makes Swell [the yacht] feel much more like a home.”
So far, Clark has traveled along the western coast of Mexico and Central America, and around the South Pacific.

Amelia also loves hiking with Clark!
As well as enjoying the pleasures of SPA together…
She sure has a similar thirst for adventure as her human!
“It was petrifying to leave the safety and security of the dock and my friends and family”
“I didn’t know if I would be capable of captaining a boat this big and managing all that goes into a trip where you’re off the grid…”
“…but I knew I had to try or I’d always regret it”
“When I left I didn’t know how I’d make money, and I don’t come from a wealthy family or anything, like many people assume”
“I sleep on a pool mat under the stars”
“But I feel rich when I look up at that night sky and breath the fresh ocean air and leap into the sea each morning”
“She makes Swell [the yacht] feel much more like a home”

Share on FacebookWhat a wonderful story.....I would like to invite Liz and "Amelia" to our little island of Saipan here in the Western Pacific.......It would be a great add to her adventures.
I love this story, so warm and full of love between the owner and the cat. I hope the cat would be fine living on the boat.
When I see stories like that I only ask myself one question "how can you survive without making money? You need the minimum"..
I believe she's making good money trough her blog. Too many people make a living from the Internet these days...
Load More Replies...Dear madam, I work in an office and till now I didn't succeed to make ends meet. You were a bartender... There are three assemption: 1 - You are a good economic person 2 - Your salary as a bartender is better than all our salaries (if it that, you can recommand me that job) 3 - You are to lucky to find a person who invited you to have a coffee together and told you: everything is going to be ok, here is a cup of coffee and yacht (if it is this, I hope I become lucky as you) Anyway, I'm happy that you're enjoying your time with that sweet company <3 keep up doing what you wants... That's a good way to have a happy life <3 <3 <3
if it is* you are too lucky* (I'm not american or british)
Load More Replies...I amazed. It's good to see someone living the life ... Hope you write a book.

Load More Replies...It's a wonderful story, but I'm still concerned about the cat following into the deep waters without a life jacket.
What an amazing story and a special bond they share<3 Only thing I would suggest: I don't know if anything has happened in the past but you never know. I would invest in a harness and lead with a clip on that Amelia can wear on deck that you can clip on the side of the vessel as she moves along. I'd hate for her to suddenly fall overboard and you not be able to get her out of the water. I would also invest (ahahaha, geddit!) in a life vest for her.
I'd like to quit my job and stay home all day with my 2 kitties, but that won't pay the bills and I'd be homeless, carless and have nothing to eat.
I wonder how much she would charge me to take me to Ireland.......*smiles*
Its a wunderhübsche Realität Leben ♡♡a lot of fun to both of them on their tour ♡Silke
I would love to get in contact with her and learn from her. I have wanted to do this for the longest time.
I like to get in contact with her and pick her brain. I have wanted to do the same thing and would welcome any input on how she does it.
I just want to join them looks like there way too much fun without me
I just worry about all the health codes and whether some country will want to take her cat.
Please put a live vest and/or a comfy harness on your kitty. Unexpected things happen!
so someone just happened to simply give her a nice medium sailboat and she has enough savings to survive for more than a decade?
Awesome. She was *given* a 40 feet sailboat? What to I have to do to get one?
Im quitting my office job...#WaitingForSomeoneToGiveMeAYacht (Love the story though, Not hating! <3)
now these are 2 females i would like to meet and say 'hello' and have a drink or 3....
That cat needs a lifevest, pretty dumb of owner not to have one on her! They are only about 5 bucks!
Have you seen a cat enjoying clothing? + cats can swim very well
Load More Replies...Wonderful! I really think you had the right attitude! Yes, writing a book would be great!
