‘The World’s Saddest Dog’ Loses Her Home Again, And Might Be Put To Sleep If No One Adopts Her Soon

Lana, the canine known as ‘the saddest dog in the world’, is homeless again – and she might be put to sleep if she doesn’t find someone to take her in. Back in 2015, a picture of Lana dejected in her kennel went viral. At that time, the family who adopted the shelter pooch returned her back, making her too sad to go on walks. “It’s almost like her world shut down,” Dahlia Ayoub of Mighty Mutts told in 2015.

The reason why they surrendered her back to the shelter was that Lana snapped at her human mom. The doggie’s memories of being the runt of the litter may have triggered the urge to protect her food. However, the shelter found someone who give her a second chance, and so Lana was adopted again. Up until recently, that is.

“Lana’s adoption did not work out because people want a dog they can pet and play with,” said Brenda Dobranski, founder of Rescue Dogs Match. “Lana is a silly fun girl but she is not the type of dog that will let you give belly rubs…”.

The doggie only has until May 20 before she might be put to sleep. Are you that someone who can accept Lana for the special dog that she is? Can you make ‘the world’s saddest dog’ happy again?

I think a cat person can adopt him with no problem... cat owners know how to deal with animal's privacy and their mood. this dog just is different with people's perspective . If someone be patient enough there will be special bound with this kind of animals that realy worth it.

If you a cat owner you really shouldn't adopt a dog that defends her resources with her teeth. The dog might even only mean it as a warning snap but your cats might still not survive it.

If Bored Panda bothered to check the other stories about this dog on FB you will see that many legitimate rescues have offered to help. Including one in Michigan (the devoted barn) which specializes in fearful and feral dogs. This dog needs decompression and time before any foster home or adoption. Anything else, no matter how well intentioned is setting her up for certain failure.

This makes me cry because I know what it's like to have an abused dog who won't even let you pet her, but now, 7 years later, she loves belly rubs and any form of affection. You have to be really patient with a dog who has been abused or significantly hurt by humans. They have a hard time trusting and for a while may see you as an enemy, then as competition but eventually as a friend and family member. It was so hard at times dealing with my dog, her constant running from me, urinating on the floor, not coming to me when I called her name, or even going as far as to bare her teeth when I tried to kiss her ear. I stuck with it and I can say it is the most rewarding experience I have ever had. Nothing and noone could fulfill me as much as adopting my Hermione and because of her, I would do it again, and again, for as long as I am able to.

I completely understand your story and experiences because I have a rescued dog myself. Lucky did bit me couple times too since she did not trust me when i tried to kiss her while she slept. Someone told me to give her to shelter but i did not do it because she needs a home and the owner that loves her sincerely more than ever. I loved her bad and good manners, no matter what. After almost 5 years now, she can not sleep without tucking under my blanket, love the feelings, grateful to have her. Thanks to all animals/ dogs rescuers.

We have a hobby farm about 7 acres, we have one dog which we got from SPCA some 8 years ago. We treat him like a kid. We would love Lana, I am a dog person and would love to have Lana and interact with her giving her kindness and love. Please for God sake do not euthanize this dog. If you don't have patience then do not adopt her. Being bounced from one place to the other just confuses her and she does not know who she can trust at this point.

It is frustrating to see that yet another dogs fails the ridicolously high standards we set for them and might be euthanized for it. Not every dog is golden retriever!!!! Some dogs bite - and they usually send out plenty of signs before they do and it our job to learn to see them and hopefully learn a better way of interacting TOGETHER with our dogs. And this whole 'teaching your dog submission' bullsh*t is just so wrong on so many levels. No, not every dog will accept that its food or toys are taken away from them. And that doesn't automatically mean they'r 'dominant' or want to rule over you. It just might mean that they have learned or are wired to protect what'S theirs. In some breeds this kind of instinct is actually a MUST. If people would watch less Cesar Milan and read more Patricia Mc Donnell, sh*t like this would not happen so often. I really hope the dog finds a home with people who know what they can and cannot expect from a dog with a backstory.

Poor dog. She's been messed up by being given up as a baby, that made her being rejected by her new owners. I can imagine the poor thing must be frightened and not your typical dog because she's been so traumatised. It would be disgusting if she had to die because of that...

I think that I wish EVERY ONE of the people who responded to this with "Where is she? I'll adopt her!" or "Wish I could adopt her but I live in another country" would GO ADOPT A DOG NOW. This dog's story is upsetting, but GOOD dogs, non-biting dogs, all over the USA, all over the WORLD, are euthanized every day. Every dog doesn't have a PR department or an advocate. ADOPT A DOG NOW -- an older dog, who will be grateful. A friendly, but ugly dog. Support your local shelter and give a dog a home. Please.

The people at the shelter should be arrested for animal murder if they kill the dog. I can't believe Canadian law allows them to kill the dog because she didn't find a home within their deadline. You're a shelter ffs! People are donating money to you to save animals, not murder them!

Just give the doggy her space. She'll start to trust humans once again after some time. It was the same with my cat. He was really shy at first and didn't let ne touch him. But now he's jumping on my lap sleeping there for hours and purring happily.

I have a similar dog, and i love her, even tho she is not the dog who comes to me to get pet. but seeing her totally relaxed sleeping next to me is more worth, than a dog who comes to me for getting pet. I will prey to god that someone adopts her. no dog deserves to get killed or be in a shelter.....

Lana will make a lovely pet but only if her new owner takes notice of her body language and accepts her as she is. My rescue dog came to me at 6 months old and I was her 3rd owner. She had snapped her last owner and she snapped at me a couple of times in her early years. I got a dog trainer in but in the end just decided to be assertive and consistent with my tone of voice. She is 10 now and the most loyal and loving dog you could hope for. She just wants a fuss, walks and a few treats now and that is what she will get for the rest of her days. I nearly didn't take her but turned round as I was leaving the rescue premises and caught sight of her bewildered face. - I changed my mind and it was one of the best decisions I have made.

Hey, in the description there is a facebook link which explains she has been adopted and her new home is on a farm! Really glad the sweet dove was adopted in the nick of time, it would have been tragic to see her die without a loving family. But she is not the only dog in the world who is unhappy and on death row... So I urge anyone interested in adopting to check out their local shelters!

I suppose this shelter had good intentions, but I can only assume that their vetting process is sorely lacking. Lana is not a puppy; she has been exposed to conditions that would make any dog fearful. What did the one "owner" do to incite Lana's snapping? Too many pet owners tease and harass their pets and then become super defensive when the animal reacts. As to the 2nd set of owners, what a bunch of morons. Obviously they have no understanding of a dog's sense of personal space. Maybe they should have been put in uncomfortable poses, poses violating their body privacy and sense of space. I hope that the right people will come forward and give this dog the type of life she deserves.

From the rescue's site: Lana has found a foster home and a new training program. To clarify May 20th is Lana’s move date, NOT a euthanasia date. RDM does not give up on their dogs, we have had more difficult dogs in our program for longer than Lana and have successfully placed them.

I can be reached via my website: www.chacodogtraining.com. Almudena

I would take her, but I am in Florida. Someone please save her, it is not right for her to be put down.

Lana has a new foster home that she is living in, and March 20 was the date she was to be moved, not the date she was going to be put down. http://www.rescuedogsmatch.com/available-dogs/lana/

The dog probably nipped at them because she realized they were the kind of human s**t that think a pet is a product that can be returned if it doesn't work exactly the way they like. Shame she didn't open a vein.

According to Rescue Dogs, May 20th is when they are moving her to a foster home. There is NO plan to put her to sleep. Still, please adopt!!

From the rescue's site: Lana has found a foster home and a new training program. To clarify May 20th is Lana’s move date, NOT a euthanasia date. RDM does not give up on their dogs, we have had more difficult dogs in our program for longer than Lana and have successfully placed them.

The main question is... How can someone adopt her ??? Where is she? Why there is no information about that???

Oh my I hope she's been adopted. If she hasn't, I'm NOT going to be one bit happy as this dog deserved the home she was born for. Those disgusting families who rejected her after already giving her hope of a better life are f*****g idiots.

I feel so bad for her. Of course she is sad. Dumped twice. I hope someone adopts her and loves her and won't dump her again before 5/20. So sad.
