Dog With Separation Anxiety Patiently Waits For His Owner All Day, Often Until Nightfall
Having pets is a blessing. They are always there for you, they love you unconditionally and they are just adorable. Oftentimes, just like a human, dogs can have certain mental issues. Like separation anxiety. These dogs will want to be with you 24/7 and if you leave, they will become very sad and upset, from howling to scratching to chewing things up. Dogs with separation anxiety will do anything to get you back home.
That’s exactly what this adorable pupper from Peru does. His name is Toby and he hates being left alone. Specifically when his ‘dad’ leaves the house. Toby sits on the balcony all day, oftentimes until nightfall, just staring into the distance, letting out a heartbreaking howl once in a while. He waits for his owner to come back and when he does, happiness and a lot of love follow.

Separation anxiety is quite a difficult thing to deal with in dogs. It’s very difficult to leave them alone because they are very attached to you and don’t want to be without you ever. So when you leave dogs with separation anxiety alone, they might do things like howl, chew, and scratch. So your favorite pair of shoes can be no more.
When Toby’s owner leaves, the pupper becomes very sad and spends his day on the balcony

It’s more dangerous when dogs try to escape after their owners leave. If you live in an apartment, your door will probably be in shambles. If you live in a house and leave your dog outside, then they might dig a hole through the fence and run away. It’s very important to make sure your dog is in a safe and contained environment when you leave them, because they might hurt themselves in their want to escape.
He waits patiently, letting out a sad scream once in a while

Even though he’s technically never alone—he has his brother and other family members that stay with him

Toby still needs his ‘dad.’ He stares at the street where he knows his owner comes back from

If you have a dog with anxiety, there are many things to try. If you want to read more about it, click here. Some common things to do would be to wait a while when you return and not give your dog attention until they come down from the excitement of you coming back home. Also, leave them lots of toys, especially chew toys, to play with. If they are food-oriented, they will have something to do for a while.
Often Toby sits like that until nightfall, waiting for his owner to come back

When he finally comes home, Toby goes to sleep being calm and feeling safe with his owner nearby

In Toby’s case, it’s not that serious, since he’s technically never alone and always has someone watching over him. Also, he sits very patiently, waiting for his owner to return. He howls sometimes, but never tries to escape, scratch, bite, or anything else destructive. He’s a very calm boy who just loves his master very much.
Toby is a really happy and friendly dog, when he isn’t left alone

The owner takes him almost everywhere, but sadly, you can’t take your dog with you every single time

Toby loves running around the fields, snuggling with his family and just being loved

The owner really loves Toby and gives him all the love, care and affection he deserves

Share on FacebookWhat a sweet angel. Dogs are so loving and loyal. I feel so bad for dogs that suffer from separation anxiety.
The dog isn't actually alone, he just doesn't have his favorite human with him. There are other people and dogs there to keep him company. This is not good for the dog, and while everyone is saying how sweet and wonderful it is, the dog is apparently in misery when their person isn't there.
I have to assume the other humans at home have tried to distract the beautiful critter. If not maybe they could try. Unconditional love can come from a human or an animal. Although in a human it can become obsessive and that isn't good. It is great that the owner shows love for both dogs. (I hope) and treats them both the same. To love so deeply must hurt the dog a lot but gives the human a boost so Mr. Human if its possible take a day off for the whole family. Maybe it will help.
I hope they try ways to help ease this pups mind while the owner is away. It's not easy at all. I've had to work with my own dog with this. She is much better now but it does take a great deal of work.
Poor doggie, they don’t know what’s happened to you, all they know is that your not there with them, so they wait and wait, so sad! So doggie 🐶 owners make sure you give them lot’s of love and attention when you return, even if it’s late, they deserve it!
Difficult one....... I have a bull terrier that has separation anxiety, and destructs my garden, rile up the other 3 too........
All of our doggies hated to see us go but cameras showed they were okay and slept and used the doggie door to go outside and do their business. Except for my brothers little 8 pound Chihuahua who sits by the door looking out (When we are home we have a gate at the front door so she can look out and watches all the cars that go by. We live on a street that has VERY little trafic. She is the only Chihuahua everyone has met that is not a yapper. She usually barks a couple of times then goes and lays down. Everyone says she is the most laid back Chihuahua they have ever seen. Very afectionate and waits by the front door until she sees his car come driving up and THEN jumping u and down and giving the "SOMEONE IS HERE " barks. She always does this every time. The others. no big deal when we leave.
My dog has this problem. It is possible to train them so they can relax, at home. It takes a looong time, but this kind of stress is bad for our dogs and can make them sick, so putting in the time and effort is worth it! (Besides - I am not comfortable if I now my dog is suffering. Knowing she'll just stand there crying all day would drive me nuts.)
Dogs are pack animals and I would go out and get this dog a dog to play with. Whether it’s inviting a dog he likes in the neighborhood over to stay with him during the day, Or fostering another dog to make sure that they all get along and everything is fine before you adopt but I would not leave the dog alone for another day
Didn't they say there's another dog that doesn't do this? The other dog is happy inside with the family still home, or do I have it wrong?
Load More Replies...What breed of dog is he? He looks remarkably like one of our dogs, whose breed/mix we have been trying to figure out ever since we adopted him six years ago.
I guess it doesn't help if the person who is home tries to distract him? All animals have different personalities we who own critters all know this one can be loving another can be standoffish. This sounds to me like a deep love may be kind of an obsession (some people are like this too). It is great that his owner provides another dog and does everything else with him. It's kind of sad but awesome at the same time! Maybe that's what love should be like between a person and a dog! I would try to find out if it is harmful to the dogs psyche.
What a load of crap. Quit anthropomorphising animals already! Dogs do NOT suffer from separation anxiety, they simply have no sense of object permanence because they perceive time differently than we do. To dogs, there is no difference between you leaving the house for ten seconds or ten hours. You simply vanish and reappear. These dogs are not full of anxiety, they think they are playing a game of peekaboo!
