‘Broken And Forgotten’ Dog Can’t Stop Smiling After He Realizes He’s Being Rescued

Animal rescuers have seen abandoned animals in the most appalling conditions imaginable and always do their best at nurturing them back to life. However, even those who have seen it all sometimes get shocked by certain instances of animal mistreatment. Yet they don’t get discouraged from doing their job, because there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing those miserable cats and sad dogs recovering from all adversities, healing and finding forever homes. One instance just like that made the employees of Dallas DogRRR proud to see how their hard dog rescue work pays off.

The animal rescue group Dallas Dog RRR has showed how the life of a mistreated dog was changed by being rescued

Recently, the animal rescue group Dallas DogRRR shared the story of a badly mistreated stary dog named Sanford. After the unfortunate canine was found by animal control employees, he was put in a municipal animal shelter where he was kept for a whole week without any medical assistance that he so desperately needed.

When Dallas DogRRR employees first met Sanford, they described him as ‘broken’. As it turned out, not only did the dog suffer injuries sustained after he was hit by a car, he was also shot and carried a bullet in his body for a while.

The badly injured animal couldn’t even walk and was kept in a dog shelter waiting for his turn to be put down. The organization described his situation as ‘absolutely sickening’ and vowed to save him. “We can’t imagine the pain he has been in, but we’re going to try to help him,” they wrote.

Once Sanford was checked by a vet, it turned out that he doesn’t have any life-threatening injuries. However, just by looking at his face, you could see that 10-year-old Sanford has been through a lot in his life.

After being rescued Sanford couldn’t stop smiling

Although things have changed dramatically once he was treated and taken to his new foster mom, Karen Velazquez.

Since the moment Sanford entered her home, he realized that he’s finally in a safe place and couldn’t be happier about it! Velazquez told The Dodo: ‘He has been all smiles ever since. I think the minute he came to my home, he realized he was in a safe place.’

However, this adorable dog’s story isn’t over yet, the senior is waiting for his forever home. ‘He’ll be a great case of dog adoption for a family. He’ll get along with other dogs and all humans. He even does well with kids,” the executive director of Dallas DogRRR told The Dodo.

The employees at that shelter deserve to be punished for animal abuse . Pure and simple, that was inhumane treatment. He's a dear, beautiful dog. His story makes me cry.

Where I live, if a dog is rescued from the street it means it is in a shelter. Apparently in the US animals also needs to be rescued from shelters. Upsetting.

Argh- what about all the other dogs at the municipal pound who are not as fortunate? Happy that this one had a positive ending, but I shudder to think of those still in the pound who have also been mistreated and not rescued.

These stories always make me tear up a bit. When I met the guy who ended up being my husband he was certain we'd never have pets, it just wasn't going to happen. He had really negative experiences with pets as a kid, as in his mom would get him a pet then get sick of it and give it away. Multiple dogs and cats that he would start to get attached to and then they were gone. From his family he kind of thought that bond wasn't that permanent or strong. When my sister was in a bad living situation and had to move to an apartment where pets weren't allowed- we ended up with a cat. A cat my sister had gotten because she was so skittish she was nearly unadoptable and felt the cat deserved a good home. Then we ended up with a pretty abused beagle who was terrified of even tummy scratches when we brought him home. Said beagle is currently burrowed between us on the bed snoring. Animals with a hard past aren't for everyone- but seeing them open up and be SO HAPPY is genuinely worth it.

When I say not for everyone- the beagle had pretty much been confined to a kennel at his last "home" and had taken to peeing in his sleep. If we're gone too long and he gets anxious he shreds boxes, toilet paper- anything he can get his teeth on. He's like, 12 now, but it's like puppy level shredding. Once when we moved with the cat she started peeing outside her litter box, and there was blood in it. I paid a couple hundred dollars to be told she was upset about moving but otherwise fine. With anxious animals you have to be very conscious to not let them know you're mad though, because it just makes it worse. Helping an animal have its best life is rewarding for sure- but definitely not for everyone.

you would think the employees in the Humane Society and Animal Shelters across the Country would love dogs/cats. What person with even half a heart could allow this?

Such a beautiful good boi! I love him and I don't even know him. Just those sad eyes at the beginning, and that beautiful smile, and the eyes looked happy. May he spend the rest of days having nothing but adventures, a full belly, and lots of love!

We have 4 dogs and I would GLADLY adopt this little sweetheart in a NY second! Our latest addition is a Shep/mix that we adopted from a shelter. When we got Minnie she was 20 lbs and had holes straight through the top of her teeth. The smell from her mouth filled the house. Our vet suggested waiting one week due to the stress of being newly adopted. It broke our hearts! Off to the vet one week later, surgery....recovery and now 5 years later she’s a tad chubby and completely loved every single day. When she came to us she didn’t know how to jump up on the couch, had never seen a toy, and didn’t know what a treat was. Her psychological recovery has been long and every so often she gets that far away look but as soon as I see it I take her sweet head into my hands and tell her; “Groot....family......”. Our pets are such a blessing to us and I’d start a rescue if I ever have the opportunity. Thank you to the person who saved this precious gem of a dog!!!!!!

Aw what a sweetie! My own Barky McWoofwoof came from a dog's home ten years ago. She looked so sad in that concrete and metal cage but the second they passed her lead to me, she was extatic and I'm still her favourite person ever. She loves soft toys, wearing t-shirts, cuddles, treats and her little brother, (my 7 year old son). Rescue dogs have so much love to give, I definitely recommend adopting!
