I have done saltwater tanks for years now and I can tell you exactly what is happening in both. First, the pictures arent the same location so thats a misleading pile of s**t. The second picture is what is called a bacteria bloom. Its part of the natural cycle of water. The SPS here is still perfectly healthy. Usually this happens where there is an increase in fish population that causes excess waste (poop). I guarantee you that if you took a picture in another 7 days, the coral has its color back. My tank at home would go through this constantly. And in all honesty, the second picture is still very healthy SPS coral.

This is sad. It is a deserted land where fish and many beautiful sea creatures flourished. It makes me even sadder to know that humans have done this.

I'm a diver and that top photo has fish photoshopped in and the colors enhanced. For one, it's just too much variety (yes, for even 10 years ago) - I don't know how else to describe it. But primarily, if you look elsewhere in the photo, back in the blue part where the color is filtered due to distance, there are no fish swimming around back there. And the small group of fish in the top right corner is further back and should be more blue like the coral below it. I understand why the creator of this comparison did this as our oceans are literally dying. The coral reefs and suffering, and adding in the climate warming up, these higher temps raise the temp of the water which will kill coral. It's a beautiful world down below. If you're not a diver, I encourage you to go while there's still something to see.

The ocean is full of beautiful, interesting, and mysterious creatures. How can anyone neglect the ocean like this? Only about 15% of the ocean's sea creatures have been discovered. If we don't do something, some of the undiscovered creatures could go extinct and we will never know their true beauty and what makes them interesting.

While the point is valid, the photos are not only inaccurate but the first is heavily photoshopped. The fish have been digitally added, the colors enhanced, and the water effect removed to make it look more lively and vibrant than it actually is. Secondly, the coral in the second photo is actually alive but dormant. You can tell because it still has its color - purple, yellow, red, they all show up whereas dead coral is a white-gray-brown. These are also not in the same location. Look at the large expanse of bare ground in the first, where the second one is completely covered. Coral takes thousands of years to grow, not ten.

I cannot help but believe with 110% certainty that the photo of the previous shot was definitely photoshopped. There is no way corals are those bright colors; the fish, yes; but those corals, purple, fire engine red, and bright green? NO way. The bottom photo is more indicative of what an underwater shot would look like.

Sad. Colors like that in nature are incredible and these f*****g companies just ruin them and blame consumers. Gross.

So sad, I have seen some of this on t.v. and it's devastating, with many reasons that cause this, oil spills, pollution etc, !!!

Sadly we have lost 50% of the oceans corals in the past 30 years due to global warming. Watch "Chasing Coral" on Netflix it is eye opening

The whiteness (and death) of coral is partly due to sunscreen creams. Move onto biological creams instead of the s**t sold in supermarkets. They are not more expensive and they are better for the oceans. Dead corals mean dead fishes and in the end dead oceans.

Dude.... enough with the sunscreen b******t. You ask any reefer and they will tell you its from excess UV light which is a result of low pollution in the atmosphere. So just stop with the silly sunscreen story

This is the last one I looked at. I can't look at anymore. As a species the humans are failing. We have all of the knowledge and power to do something but the people in charge make it impossible. They look at conservation as an expense and not profitable.

This concerns the Aral Lake in Uzebekstian and is not the result of Climate change but Stalin's disastrous ambitions.

This doesn't appear to be the same location. Look at the shape of the hills in the background of the top picture -- now compare that profile to the bottom picture. Different topography.
