This Domesticated Baby Red Fox Is The Sleepiest Pet Ever

Meet Rylai, a domesticated red fox with her own Instagram who is quickly becoming a rising star on the internet. On her Instagram and Facebook, you can follow what Rylai eats, her success in obedience training, and her little everyday challenges. The name “Rylai” comes from the game DOTA2.

Rylai represents a welcome change in attitudes towards domesticated foxes, as many like her have been slaughtered for their fur. However, despite being domesticated, she is not a Siberian fox, which are bred in Russia to make them tamer and more dog-like. Rylai was raised by breeders seeking to domesticate foxes in the U.S., and is many generations removed from her wild cousins.

There are so many unwanted dogs in shelters, is there really a need to breed domesticated foxes? SMH

The relationship of people with different domesticated animals is different. Cats and dogs are different, so are foxes. Cat ppl ≠ dog ppl

Most adorable baby ever! Are you sure it's a red fox? Looks more like a snow fox to me with the solid white coat.

The reason she sleeps all the time is that wild mammals sleep when they are not feeding or in danger to make their calories last longer.

I like how this is encouraging people to take animals from the wild and breed in unhealthy traits.

I'm a cat person, can't stand dogs. I love foxes. Their similarity to dogs in action/temperament is only tangential.

Yea for making pets that will end up abandoned and unwanted. People will get them as babies and not want to deal with them once grown. Adopt

Hooray for making more pets that end up unwanted and abandoned. Most people will get them as babies and toss them when they grow up.

I agree with Yessica... Why both add to the pet population and disenchant "regular" dogs with foxes? Give fido at the shelter a chance!

What these "breeders" don't tell you is how the F1-F5 generations lived their lives out in cages so you can have a fox pet. Unforgivable.

You cannot domesticate a FOX, to say this is domesticated is ridiculous, it doesn't even know what it yet its to young.

Foxes - domesticated or not - will mark with urine that smells much like skunk. Not all that cute.

pretty much ALL animals mark with urine. Why do you think they litter train cats? Or why a dog lifts its leg? Even FISH mark.

Poor him... He is sleepy because he must be depressed, since fox, dog and wolves are social animals that need to live in groups... :(

Actually it seems like the little one gets a lot of attention. I think the BABY is probably sleeping because IT'S A GODAMMNED BABY.

I think what we're not hearing about are the F1-F4 generations that were "untameable" and most likely met certain death as unplaceable.

Do not domesticate, purchase or adopt wild and domesticated foxes, ferrets, large cats, etc. Free them. Visit the zoo or adopt a cat or dog.

Actually they shouldn't because of the way they have been bred, it would be unsafe for them to be in the wild. They would not survive.
