Woman Comes Up With Pro Revenge By Hiring A Bailiff After UPS Damages Her Package And Keeps Refusing To Compensate For It
Those who use delivery services quite often might know how things might get messed up during the delivery process. Besides packages arriving late, they also get mixed up, lost, and in the worst-case scenario—damaged. Of course, there are ways that can protect the client from this. These things include making sure that the delivery is packed right and getting insurance for the item. But a Reddit user named @chuckitbuckit decided to share a story that proved that sometimes these things don’t really work in reality with certain delivery companies.
More Info: Reddit
A lot of people find delivery services to be a convenient way to send or receive items, especially in today’s context

The user started the story by revealing that she wanted to send a computer to her mother-in-law but it was smashed during the delivery. She then contacted the delivery company and asked them to pay back for the ruined delivery. However, they refused to do so, giving various reasons such as that they couldn’t damage it and that this might have happened because the item was poorly packed. But this couldn’t be the truth because the client got the delivery packed by Apple shop and even got the statement from there to prove that it was packed safely.
One Reddit user decided to share a less positive experience regarding UPS delivery services

The user shared that during the delivery, her computer was smashed, so she contacted UPS to ask them to pay her back

The company didn’t see their fault, so they refused to pay for the damages

The company didn’t really take this information into consideration and even threatened the author of the post to make her pay interest on customs charges. The woman then took this situation to small claims and won the case, making the company pay costs and some extra charges as well as interest. But she didn’t get the payment from UPS. This situation enraged the woman as the laptop was supposed to be sent to her mother-in-law who passed away during this whole ordeal. This is why the woman decided to make sure to reach “karmic justice.”
The customer went further with the claim because she knew that it was their fault

The company didn’t budge and didn’t want to pay for the damages and other expenses

The woman went to the high court and hired the best bailiff firm in London. Meanwhile, no matter the severity of the situation, the UPS company ignored all of the letters and requests, so the bailiffs went to UPS headquarters and tried to resolve the matter, but once again, the company refused to pay for the damages. This is when the bailiffs started the process of seizing the assets. The situation got to the point where the finance director arrived at the scene and stopped the removal by paying the costs for damages.

No matter how tiring this process seemed, the customer didn’t want to give up and let the delivery company win

The case reached the high court and a bailiff was hired to get the payment from the company

The woman ended up getting more than twice the amount she initially should have been paid. The author of the post shared that in the end, the company had to pay three times more than the original amount was. She was happy about the outcome of the situation because she received justice. A lot of people online also found this story to be great and it encouraged them to share their own similar experiences. What do you think about this situation? Don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below!
Since UPS ignored all the letters asking to cover the damages, the bailiff ended up going to their headquarters

Since no payment was made, the bailiff started to seize their assets

The situation ended up in the client receiving her payment as the finance director decided to cover it

People online loved the story as it ended in the client’s favor
It also encouraged others to share similar experience of big companies ignoring their fault

Share on FacebookFor anyone not aware (our US friends for example) there’s a number of BBC and Channel 5 programs such as “Call the bailiffs” and “the Sheriffs are coming” and there’s a good number of episodes on YouTube. This is very common behaviour from big and small companies.
I started watching these TV shows last year, and I was blown away! I even remember an episode where Delta Airlines owed money to a passenger, and the bailiffs went to Heathrow to collect it. They threatened to seize the plane if the Delta manager didn't pay. Gangsta!!!
Load More Replies...Bailiffs at a big couriers company. Omg how I love this. Yes, the law applies to them, omg I would love to have been a fly on the wall! The OP is kickass for making this happen
like the guy who won a court case against Bank of America and had Sheriff's Deputes show up at BoA offices to foreclose on them for failure to pay the court-ordered settlement.
Wow... First off I'm so very sorry for your loss... Also good for you on taking down the brownies ... Your mum is looking down and smiling and very proud ....
Over the past 35+ years, I've shipped thousands of packages with UPS. 99% of the time, its fine, but that 1% is a whole other story. First off, you have to pay extra for the insurance. Without the extra insurance, their maximum claim is $100. Although they say the insurance covers damaged shipments, in practice it doesn't. Like happened with the OP, they will deny any damage claim by saying that the package wasn't packed properly. Their proof that the package wasn't packed properly is that it was damaged - iron-clad circular reasoning. I tell all my customers that effectively the insurance is really only covering if they completely lose the package. That's the only claim they will ever pay (and that happens really rarely).
True. USPS is even worse. I went to buy insurance on a package and the post master told me not to bother, that even customers who have receipts, pictures, and proof do not get reimbursed.
Load More Replies...Sure is. I knew someone who was a delivery driver for UPS. He said that any packages that weren't properly sealed (tape coming off, box coming open, etc), typically were considered fair game & those packages would mysteriously "get lost in transit". He said just about all of the drivers had that "policy" and all they had to do for packages that were lost on their route was to fill out a form and no investigations were done that he knew of. Now I make sure my packages are well packed and sealed so well, that you need a knife to get through all that tape. No problems yet.

How do I go about doing this? DHL lost a package for me worth 3500USD just 2 weeks ago. They keep telling me that they only talk to the sender but I paid for everything.
DHL is a nightmare, my apologies... I have gotten that line SO many times, they don't know anything about why your package hasn't moved in a week, you need to contact the vendor... I have cursed out the automated question bot several times, it is wildly frustrating. I get a makeup subscription service each month, comes out of the Raleigh, NC area- I live in the Greenville, SC area, at BEST a 3 hour drive. It has taken this package up to TWO freaking WEEKS to arrive at my house, I literally asked them if I could drive to the Ipsy headquarters and just pick it up myself- they send it to the outskirts of Atlanta first, where it apparently languishes for days upon days, and only then does it go to Greenville... Makes no freaking sense, just send it to Greenville, it's only THREE HOURS AWAY... My boyfriend says they have certain hubs and routes and yada yada, but there has got to be a more efficient way, there just has to be...

I had to involve the office of the president to get them to pay for a second package. I won in the end. Also, when I called, they knew the delivery guy had a lot of complaints against him. Why keep such an idiot?
Trying to talk the bailiffs out of enforcing a high court order?????? Just go home.....just go home.
Ok, I've never heard of this process before. Is the bailiff basically saying to UPS "pay us now, or we're going to take the equivalent in equipment/decor/whatever isn't bolted down"
Yep, and bailiffs work for the Court, not for the person making the claim, and anybody getting in their way could be putting themselves in a world of trouble…it's glorious to watch snotty bastards who think they're above the law getting put in their place.
Load More Replies...Does anyone have anything solid on this? Sounds a bit far fetched to me that they would go to all this trouble for a laptop .. they get claims constantly for damage etc .. never heard of this before and with bailiffs going round and it only being over a laptop you'd think it would peak the interest of local reporters ..
Doesn't matter how small the debt is. If you have a legal judgement against someone and they refuse to pay you can send the bailiffs in.
Load More Replies...Ups took 4 days to deliver a package that was stuck less than 40 km from my house. The shipping costs? 11 € How long it took in total for the package to be delivered? One week. I asked for a (at least partial) refund and got told it was because of COVID and they didn't even acknowledge the fact that I had asked for a refund. Yeah no way since the previous package took 3 days to be delivered with the delivery taking place on the morning of the third day. And that was the week before, during the Christmas holidays when I could have been more lenient given the amount of packages being shipped etcetera.
I remember two similar stories from the last year: one guy delivering a court order to a t-mobile kiosk in Costco (they're not a franchise, the guy there was an employee), since T-Mobile ignored it they had a similar situation and another one got a BofA branch's stuff seized since they also ignore a court order.
My sister in law ordered a glitzy shiny leopard statue from Next. It was being delivered by Hermes. When it was due to be delivered she had to go out and assumed that if they tried to deliver it while she was out they would just leave a card. My brother and my sister in law have an electronic gate at their house and you have to pick up a phone to tell them you are there. Yes, you guessed it, on finding no one in they threw the package over the gate. It was smashed to bits.
Was DHL for me. Thousands of dollars of my merchandise was regularly delivered into the Amazon warehousing district by the same DHL office that serves my location. Dropped by the local DHL hub to speak with the manager, who very nonchalantly said that due to being overwhelmed by Amazon he had no control on whether or not his people sent my merchandise to them as well. Amazon, on the other hand, never returned the merchandise. Went so far as to put a GPS tracker into a package that was misfired into the Amazon system. Even with that confirmation neither Amazon nor the local police department would help reclaim the box that I could clearly show was with Amazon. Was very happy to see this victory! The Giants must be held accountable too!
UPS and FedEx are going to merge, the new name will be FedUp...😉🤣
I had to do this to my apt management company over a flooded apt (3 months!!!). The evening before, I called corporate and ask them to wipe down the company cars so I could make MY pick! I dodnt need anything from the local office except their 4 wheeler and golf cart! Lmao It took THAT threat for them to promise me a check at 8 a.m. They paid.
The only Bailiffs we have here in the US are the ones that stand there during court hearings. They aren't for hire neither, but most of them are old & are overweight so I wouldn't think they would get much done even if they were for hire. UK Bailiffs sound amazing, especially since they have the authority to seize assets. Even the Private investigators here in the US, that we can hire don't have that much authority.
UPS lost family photos that had pics of President Truman in them. They refused to help locate or compensate.
Ugh f**k UPS...and Fedex...especially Fedex...FedEx... assholes hired a driver who was inept and ended up killing my eldest Nephew, and crippling his girlfriend. Bitches fought tooth and nail not to pay my family or Girlfriend for what their driver who had crashed another rig six months prior. And helped the murderer walk away with 4 effing months for murder...screw them both...
This is so weird, but I've never had a problem w/ UPS. If ever my package gets damaged in transit UPS return it to the sender and the sender gives me a refund for the undeliverable item.
This woman is my hero. This is the example we all need to follow when dealing with these a**hats. Have it happen enough and they will get their crap right.
Most people don't have time for it. The legislation should be such that a large company behaving like this would have to pay huge fines.

Second time was an ex who owed me money, the less said the better but it worked.
unfortunately this is probably fake as you cannot take use a lawyer for small claims court.
I'd really like to hear that UPS's side of the story. There's clearly more to this.
Not at all. It is not at all uncommon for large companies to refuse to payout small claims judgements and as in UK courts it doesn't matter how rich or big your company is, you still have to pay judgements against you or you will get a visit from the bailiffs, and those guys really do not give a f**k who you are. They will get the money out of you one way or another.
