Most of us are happy to just be able to get some food during these difficult times and view time spent in a queue as just part of the process. But some are a little more impatient.
A man claimed that he was just minding his own business, placing his order at a McDonald’s drive-through when a lady behind him began blasting her horn to get him to hurry up.
Finding this behavior rather rude, he hatched a plan to teach the annoying driver a lesson. And it worked.
This may be a small victory but it’s a satisfying one
Tensions at drive-throughs are somewhat understandable. Last March, when restaurant sales sharply fell after governors banned in-person dining and consumers began working through their glut of stockpiled groceries, a new trend took hold, illustrated by long drive-through lines that stretched around the perimeter of fast-food locations.
Take Checkers and Rally’s for example. With more than 800 locations, it’s the largest restaurant chain with double drive-thru lanes in the country.
“We had the most tremendous year last year,” CEO Frances Allen told CNBC. “We recorded record same-store sales gains and have created significant momentum.”
The pandemic coincided with the chain revamping its menu, helping revive sales. To keep up with the spike in demand, about two thirds of Checkers and Rally’s restaurants even shifted one of their drive-through lanes to handle digital and delivery orders.
After decades as a fast-food staple, drive-through lanes became the superstar, helping chains’ sales rebound faster than those of its full-service brethren. By December, drive-through lanes accounted for a whopping 44% of off-premise orders across the entire restaurant industry, the NPD Group reported.
Furthermore, as vaccine distribution ramps up across the United States, the popularity of drive-through orders appears to have staying power. However, industry experts predict that it will moderate some. Hopefully, petty drive-through wars will also cease.
The story went viral across many platforms

The first time I read this I thought it was awesome. Now I realize that the McDonalds staff had to deal with the woman he tricked.
That's what I was thinking too. She probably didn't join the queue again and just demanded the food from the last window. Poor staff
Load More Replies...I'm not defending either side (if it did, in fact, happen), but I really wish drive-thrus would put extra menu boards where people waiting in line could see them and start deciding their order before getting to the speaker. Menus change, specials change. I hate making people wait, but I don't always know what I'm going to order and going inside isn't always possible.
Yeah, I'm not a regular at fast food, and so I don't know what they have or what I want - so it takes me a little longer to decide and order. I am sorry, it's not my intention to hold up the line; I'd be happy to let the person go ahead of me but that doesn't work so well in drive-thrus.

Load More Replies...That was just petty. So she honked at him. Big deal. If he had paid for her order, and left it for her, that'd have been a class act. He missed a nice opportunity.
honking multiple times and giving the bird is different than a small toot once or twice
Load More Replies...Is it just me, or do the many of the comments that are part of post make no sense? The person talking about the OP having "designer" and nice cars and looking down on those that don't was bizarre.
That was the first thing I noticed! Nobody even mentioned clothes or cars. Some people are just so insecure about what they have, they think anyone who has something “better” is automatically the villain in the story or that it must always have something to do with this issue.

Load More Replies...Some of the included responses don’t make sense with regards to the story. Designer clothes? What does that have to do with it? Personally I think the rest is funny and a good way to piss off someone who deserves to be angry.
My take away from this is calling honking "hooting". I will never say honk again. I'm A " hooter" now😆 (actually I very rarely hoot my horn. But that is beside the point.)
I've heard a version of this story so many times I'm starting to think it's just an urban legend
Why would the worker give him the food though? Yeah, he paid for it, but he said, "I want to pay for her order." When he then tried to take the food, he should be been denied. It was her order, he just volunteered to pay for it. Now the staff has to deal with the psychotic woman. D**k move by the guy paying and dumb move by the worker.
In a hurry, get out of your car, then get your food inside the store. Usually faster
Better to kill with kindness. Pay for the food and leave it at that.
I read through this, and thought it was pretty funny, but then I thought some more about it. What if this poor women had had four kids in the car, all of them hungry and whining? If so, she would have been very stressed out, trying to get some food for her kids as soon as possible. I myself find it hard to control my anger when children and whining and crying, and I find it reasonable (I'm not saying she should have done it) to honk the horn. To make it worse, imagine how she felt when she heard he paid for the meal? She probably felt a bit bad for honking at him, but greatful some stranger was kind enough to pay for her order (that may have consisted of some child's food). But then, she would have drove up to the window and found out that he had taken her food. She would have had to drive back to the end of the drive through with her whining kids (again, using the scenerio that she had children, which is completely possible) and had to sit in the drive through with very upset, hungry-
children in the back of her car. To sum this up, never assume someone you can't see/talk to is just being rude for the sake of being rude. I find this person disgusting for doing this to a stranger.

I think this would have been hilarious on a TV show. But in real life....most likely did not happen, but...why are people so mad at the people in front to the point of flipping their s**t They don't know what's happening. Maybe it is the restaurant itself? I can take an extra moment if I don't know what I want if it's been years since I've been. Or you can be ordering for 10. Annoying to be behind that person, but it happens. Or the cashier may have problems understanding. Or nobody is there and you're waiting on someone to take your order. Then she may have felt embarassed and humbled it was paid for, and relaxed and realized she had a bad day and flipped her lid...only for the 2nd plot twist to happen.
We are on a rock travelling around 1 of 100 billion stars. Our species is 1 of over half a billion that have ever existed. Our chances of being born are about 1 in 400 trillion. You're not special, but you are f*****g lucky. Enjoy your amazing life. You'll never exist again.
Bs. Also, you should allways remember that this person being rude maybe just have a really shitty day. Don't take things personally.
I applaud this lady. The bitch who was honking at her in the drive through certainly deserved this. I will have to remember this.
I would so do this.....the woman in the second car needs to learn some patience
That's a nasty culture, in so many ways. No one looks good in this story.
Oof--God says to love your enemies, treat others the way you'd like to be treated, love your neighbor as you love yourself, etc. But this is funny lol-
I think this is more confessional BS on BoredPanda. I don’t think McDonald’s would allow that. This is some guy’s 3rd grade revenge fantasy.
The person behind me was rude so I'm going to punish the staff of the restaurant.
I think it would have been better had they just paid for the food and left it at that. Kill her with kindness. It would have been enough for me that she was ashamed by her behavior. Now she's even more pissed off and she's going to go on and ruin someone else's day and not learn a damn thing, maybe the kindness would have rubbed off on her.
Very petty and potentially very dangerous! In our small sleepy town, one kid honked at another kid in a truck at a McDonald's drive through. The kid in the truck got out and went back to confront the honker. The honker kid started to get out of his car and trucker kid shot him in chest with a handgun. Trucker kid died instantly... True story
I hope the honking kid got arrested! Who the heck does that?

Because nobody can agree on a male counterpart for Karen. Some say it's Kyle, some say Chad, some say Terry, some say Ken. There are too many variations so it doesn't have a very good chance of meaning anything to the audience. At least, that's what I think.
