Ricky Gervais Slams These Celebrities Who Are Moaning About The Lockdown
Quarantine has been tough on everyone. Not being able to go outside or see your family and friends can really take a toll on a person’s emotional and physical wellbeing. But let’s be honest here—some of us have it better than others. And those people who are a little bit luckier than most of us are celebrities. The well-known and affluent don’t have to worry about being out of work during the pandemic or about keeping themselves occupied in their big and fully-stocked homes. Yet during this time when many families are struggling to get by, more and more celebrities are stepping forward… to complain about how bad they have it. And Ricky Gervais, known for his harsh and funny criticism on the entertainment world, isn’t having any of it.
In his recent interview Ricky Gervais claps back at the celebrities moaning about beign stuck in quarantine

In a recent interview with The Sun, actor Gervais encourages everyone to stop complaining and show gratitude and support for the doctors and nurses at the frontline. “After this is over I never want to hear people moaning about the welfare state again, I never want to hear people moaning about nurses again. Or porters. These people are doing 14-hour shifts and not complaining. Wearing masks, and being left with sores, after risking their own health and their families’ health selflessly.” The message is clearly directed to the rich. “But then I see someone complaining about being in a mansion with a swimming pool. And, you know, honestly, I just don’t want to hear it,” he told The Sun.

How does he feel about being under quarantine himself? Well, he doesn’t seem to mind. “I didn’t go out much anyway, and there’s always too much booze in the house. It’s always been the 6 pm watershed for as long as I remember. Obviously, I am looking at the watch,” he jokes.

It is estimated that Gervais’ net worth is $130 million. However, he says that being the child of an immigrant laborer has taught him the real value of everything. “I had no money growing up, I didn’t have any until I was 40. But I still had everything. My mum, she gardened, she grew, she cooked, she sewed, she knitted, she decorated, she did everything she could. And she gave me everything I wanted except money. I also realized growing up that all the best things were free—friends, nature, learning, and healthcare. And that’s why I gladly pay my taxes. And that’s why I clap the NHS.”

“It showed me the value of everything. People ask me why I dress like a tramp. And I say, ‘My clothes are clean and comfortable. Who am I trying to impress?’ I don’t wear £50,000 watches. I don’t collect cars because I can’t drive,” Gervais reveals.
Celebrities who shared tone-deaf comments on quarantine

His comments come after such celebrities like Sam Smith shared their struggles with the quarantine and self-isolation in their $14 million, 5-bedroom home in London. Last month, the singer posted a series of photos titled “Stages of a quarantine meltdown” to their Instagram account, which was not taken very well by the public. The photos came after Smith said on social media that they are “bored s**tless” being stuck indoors all day.

TV chef Gordon Ramsay evoked fury both online and among local residents when he decided to ignore the government’s guidance to stay in one place by moving his family from a property in London to their £4m beachfront house in Cornwall. Despite living in luxury, Ramsay said that quarantine with 5 kids is “a living nightmare” for him. It has been reported that he has laid off 500 members of his staff during the pandemic.

Ellen’s comment comparing quarantine to jail was deemed tone-deaf, too. “This is like being in jail, is what it is. Mostly because I’ve been the same clothes for 10 days and everyone in here is gay,” she said. The woman is currently self-isolating in a house worth $27 million which has a gym, infinity pool, 10 bathrooms, and eight bedrooms.

While not directly complaining about the quarantine, Madonna also came under fire for her insensitive comment. “It’s the great equalizer and what’s terrible about it is what’s great about it. What’s terrible about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways, and what’s wonderful about it is that it’s made us all equal in many ways,” she said in a video posted on her social media.

Some celebrities decided to flaunt their wealth in the guise of good intention. Arnold Schwarzenegger chose to encourage people to stay at home whilst smoking a cigar in his jacuzzi. “I just finished a bike ride and a little bit of workout and I just keep staying at home, away from the crowds and away from outside. The reason why I’m saying that is because I still see photographs and videos of people sitting outside in cafes all over the world and having a good time and hanging out in crowds. That is not wise, because that’s how you can get the virus. That’s how you get it.”

Nicole Richie decided to educate people, too. She said that everyone can grow their own produce while quarantining. “In a time where everyone is hoarding food and we’re trying to stay out of grocery stores as much as possible in order to give elderly people, people with specific allergies and specific food limitations, in order to give way to those people, it’s not a bad idea and it is possible to start growing your own food,” she said. The woman who lives in a $6.7 million mansion made this suggestion without realizing that not everyone has the resources she does.

U say it like people can control their infatuation for celebrities
Load More Replies...I'm just as annoyed as anyone else by celebrities lack of self-awareness, but all the articles and tweets aren't going to make them change. Stop giving them more attention that they don't deserve, and give your readers some worthwhile content. I need a distraction from the pandemic, not daily reminders of the massive disparity between the rich and poor in the USA.
Well, let's all feel sorry for them in unison. I don't get to live like that when I'm on vacation ! Ramsay I kind of get. Poor soul has to spend time with his family now :D. But I saw him scream at so many people before... F**k him too!
It doesn't sound to me like Ellen's comment was anything other than a joke, though. You were supposed to think she was going to say it was like jail because she can't leave, but instead she said it was like jail because she's wearing the same clothes every day (and because everyone's gay - a poke at OITNB and that whole genre, probably). She's not complaining about being stuck in her mansion, she's being funny. We all need humour these days more than ever.
Eh.. I don't mind them whining.. i think part of their gift is trying to connect with people right now who DO idolize them - although their lives are very different. Everyone going through this feels a sense of loss to THEIR normal... I mean, I dont have a pool or even a hot tub, but I do have a roof over my head and plenty of food (yes, I stockpiled) - and thats more than say the people of Africa. Doesn't stop me from feeling it and wanting to whine. lol
I think you're right. I have it much better than a lot of people, since I am just working from home now and therefore still getting paid. I don't live alone, but I don't have kids to homeschool, either. That doesn't mean isolation is easy for me, just easier than others, and I have a right to feel frustrated and scared and lonely. I don't even think there's anything wrong with sharing that I feel that way, because it helps people to not feel alone. This is hard for everyone. I'm sorry if it's harder for you than me. But it still sucks.
Load More Replies...When everything is back to some sort of normal will people still remember which celebrity was a complete and utter jerk and which celebrity was trying to do right? Will they boycot celebs that have become so distant from normal, day to day life that they do not even realise how hurtful their posts are to people that are really fighting a life or death battle? Will people boycot the companies that have thrown their employees out for the sake of consolidating their profits? Will they boycot Gordon Ramsey for firing people to secure his fortune? I highly doubt it.
People get so angry and pouty when rich people say anything to them. You hypocrites post to instagram how hard you have it. Poor people in India have Instagram too. To them your first world quarantine would feel like heaven. Pot, meet Kettle. Also, stuff like Ellen? That was just a joke. She wasn't complaining about the hardship. Get over it.
Those who whine the most are the ones who judge the most.
Load More Replies...They should stop complaining and do something like Tyler Perry. That is the difference between narcissism and altruism.
They're addicted to fame and being idolized. They thought this was a good idea, that they'd get attention and seem like they were doing a good thing. Internal exploration is not high on the list of celebrities and politicians who are fainting with the lack of acknowledgement of their greatness.
We need to stop idolizing athletes and Hollywood and encourage our youth to become real heros like Doctors, Nurses, teachers, truck drivers, and even police officers. These are the people that keep us going when the going gets tough. Not all noble positions are paid what they are worth. Yet the athletes and actors that are paid millions are all sitting around doing nothing now. Why? Because they simply don't matter.
To be honest I didn't even recognize most of them and and 1 of them was my state governor for a while.
It's all relative. I cannot empathize with celebrities, nor they, with me.
Personally, I think Ricky Gervais is an a-hole and *really* don't understand why people think he's funny. However, having said that, he does have a valid point.
Ricky Gervais is a great human being, the wealth did not change him.
Load More Replies...I get what he’s saying, but this is from a “celebrity” who has made a name out of bitching about other celebrities. I’d love for Ricky Gervais and Piers Morgan to go away. They have far outlived their relevance.
There are many people who cause destruction of our planet, directly or indirectly.....it would be very useful if they stopped or went away.

Attention whores are going to whore for attention. They can't go out, party, tour, whatever so they are not making headlines or getting their pictures on the net so they MUST do something to get attention. Apparently that something is to make these seemingly tone deaf statements about their "suffering".
Shame usa is r******d and people wouldn't know the value of healthcare if it pull down its pants and farted in their face
Ricky Gervais donates money and uses his time to support a bunch of charities. He is notably a huge supporter of anti-cruelty causes, and recently spoke out against the wet markets (which is believed to be the origin of many infectious diseases like the Coronavirus.) It's pretty unfair to say he doesn't contribute when he does, and he's allowed to be candid. The question about his values was likely prompted by the interviewer. I'm biased though because while I don't always enjoy his comedy, he's a decent person in the respect he does give back.
