Customer Gets So Upset Over Waiter Wearing A ‘Don’t Be Racist’ T-Shirt That He Leaves A Negative Review, And Now Everyone Is Trolling Him
What do people leave bad restaurant reviews for? Many reasons may be to blame, some legit, some not so much. But one guy who “really enjoyed the food and service” got upset about something entirely different. It turns out, his waiter’s shirt, which read “hi. don’t be racist. thanks.” was enough to write a negative review for “employee’s ideology plastered on the shirt.”
As one would expect, people on the internet weren’t buying it. After the Chowder House employee named Bryan shared the incident on Twitter, the story blew up with 18.1K retweets and 101.9K likes. Folks “couldn’t even” over the absurd complaint and everyone seemed to show their support to Bryan.
But nobody foresaw what happened next. The restaurant owner added a bunch of items to the basket, and you can guess which one it was.

In the wake of Black Lives Matter, more and more people are stepping in to voice out against racial injustice. And for those who can’t take to the streets, getting a humble graphic shirt is a way of showing your commitment without uttering a single word. The “de facto mobile billboards of our era,” the shirts are a great way to donate to charity and anti-racist organizations. Take a look at the selections picked up by Esquire and High Snobiety.
Bored Panda also spoke to the team behind “Shop Mia Wallace”, an online boutique that specializes in slogan t-shirts, about their view on this whole situation. “We would like to point out that we support Bryant to the fullest on what he has been through,” they said.
“As a small but emerging establishment, our official stand regarding this message is well reflected on our merchandise. We believe that the world will be a better place if we acknowledge and respect each other as human beings and spread the message of love into our lives,” the boutique commented.
These days, “being vocal about our views and exercising freedom of speech is more important than ever” because of the growing tendencies of discrimination in our world.

Again, before you start throwing "you are a racist" at me, there are a lot of people who agent racist, have never been racist, are pretty decent people and actually don't want to be part of a 'movement'. Those people tackle racism and other situations of prejudice in their their daily lives. They stand up for things and treat people with respect. They don't need to be part of a popular trend or to discuss it constantly. Don't let the hype make you an angry person. Be a good person instead. Again, I'm not racist and I also don't need to justify it because a lot of people think they're smart. We can have independent thought and still not be racist x

I think this is a tricky issue. Most (or a lot of) people here in Bored Panda are against racism, so they think the t-shirt is great and the customer is an idiot. But... what if the t-shirt displayed, for example, an alt-right slogan? Or something within legality, but offensive to a minirity/women/gay people/etc? Would all you be so supportive? I don't think a place that deals with customers is the right place to wear "your favourite t-shirt", whatever message it displays. I wouldn't tolerate any abuse or disrespect to customers or employers, but, every person has an ideology, and I don't think your workplace is the best place to boast about it. Demand respect and show respect to everybody, but don't preach.
Your attempt to claim that supporters of this "Don't be racist' shirt would be offended if it was an alt-right slogan is weird. The comparison you're trying to make is even weirder since the alt-right equivalents to this shirt would be "Don't be a minority" "Don't be a woman" "Don't be gay" etc. See the difference now?

Guy leaves a comment about a t-shirt being unprofessional in his opinion and people extrapolate that he is racist, angry, offended, afraid etc. They start bullying personally on social media and this seems to be a great victory against racism. I doubt that this place is a 2 Michelin star restaurant but I know plenty of restaurants that even wearing a t-shirt can be considered unprofessional, but nobody seems to see from that angle. The guy has been judged and condemned to be bullied eternally for a comment he made about dress code. Game set match

I'm half Asian and I can see why some may find it offensive. Because SOME (not all) of the people that say stuff are the same people that call anything they disagree with racist, even if it isn't racist. because the left and right wing media seeks to divide us. Of course, most of us agree that being racist is bad and you shouldn't do it.
so the problem with the shirt, is it points out something that the vast majority of the country overwhelmingly believes and agrees with. it doesn't need said. what its really doing is calling everyone else a racists besides far left acivists, specifically conservatives, considering according to the internet and the media the vast majority are overt racists. How would of the restaurant reacted if that guy complained bc he had on a MAGA shirt? bet it wouldnt of been the same.

Secondly, relating "professionalism" to how servers dress is ridiculous, since there have always been plenty of places that have the female servers wear tight, low cut shirts. It was acceptable and professional, was it, for women to be essentially sex objects at a place like the now defunct "Hooters"? Yet a guy can't put on a t-shirt that asks people to behave with decency? Give me a break. That t-shirt isn't a slogan or an ideology. It's a request -- to treat other people, no matter what they look like, with respect. It's phrased as a question, not a demand. Anyone can abide by it or not. If it makes people defensive, that's because they don't like their comfort zone challenged. Not because something is being rammed down their throats.

Why assume there is a dress code? Or maybe there is but it's quite relaxed. I've mainly worked in offices, admittedly, but there was only one that had a dress code. The others didn't care as long as we were decent (in their eyes not showing unreasonable amounts of skin).
