Perfect Imperfection: Photographer Documents The Beauty Of Animals With Disabilities

From dogs with three legs to cats born without eyes, Perfect Imperfection celebrates the intrinsic beauty of adorable animals who have overcome adversity and adapted to a physical impairment.

Photographed with care and sensitivity by leading Australian animal photography professional, Alex Cearns of Houndstooth Studio, each image leads with the beauty of the animal subject, making their physical issue almost a subtle afterthought.

Cearns says “One of my most passionate aims taking these animal portraits is to capture the adorable subtleties that make all creatures precious and unique. I love every beautiful animal I have the privilege of photographing, but those perceived as “different” hold a special place in my heart. These are the creatures who have lost a leg, been born without eyes, or are still showing the scars of former abuse. Most animals with “afflictions” don’t dwell on them. They adapt to their bodies without complaint and they survive with determination. These unusual animals push on, always, wanting to be included and involved in everything as much as they can, and as much as an able-bodied pet does.”

This beautiful photo series is dedicated to Savannah and Rowdy. Both lived with dignity and joy (RIP).

I have a rescue pure bred golden retriever puppy that was born without eyes that I took in after his "award winning breeder" slapped him on my reception desk and asked my clinic to kill him. He is now 1.5 years old and is in drug/bomb detection and search and rescue :) I would love to be contacted for a photoshoot!

First of all, let me say, One Eyed Louie has got to be the cutest thing I ever did see. I could love every last one of them, with their perfect imperfections.

My cat Snow doesn't look like them becase i always treated him as he was as the way he was born with his both eyes as he never losted one eye in a cat's fight kissing his both eyes in his living life telling him the his other eye was in heaven taking care of us from heaven making feel lucky as he was and still. And he always looked as a cat with his both eyes..secure..beautiful ..sexy and intelligent..smart letting me this lesson for my life.Never letting him cry from that eye.. with a quick kiss on it..to go on with our life.

My cat Snow doesn't look like them, because i always treated him as the he was born with his two eyes never as a cat that lost an eye in a cat's fight because even being together in his living life i kissed his both eyes and i used to tell him that his other eye was in heaven taking care of both making him lucky as he was and still.

I've been involved in cat rescue/fostering for 9 years... I have 6 cats now of my own... one is deaf, one is blind, one has a permanent limp due to illness as a kitten, one came to me with both front legs broken... I could be forgetting someone's issue.... I love them all!

I have a 6 year old mini Aussie with only one eye. I hasn’t been surgically removed though, since it does no harm to him, so he has one weird eye that some people think is gross.
