Rescued Baby Lion Can’t Sleep Without A Blanket Even Though He’s All Grown Up

When Lambert’s rescuer Vicky Keahey first saw him in June 2014, he looked more like a puppy dog than a mighty lion. Illegally purchased by a family who didn’t want him anymore, he desperately needed help. So Keahey was more than happy to take him to her rescue “In-Sync Exotics.”

“The previous owners obtained him illegally as a pet for their young children,” Angela Culver, Keahey’s media director, told Bored Panda. The children wanted a Simba after seeing The Lion King. “After a short time, the family decided they could not keep him, so we were contacted asking if we could take him, which of course we were happy to do.”

“We had heard from the previous owners that he slept in the bed with the grandfather,” said Keahey to The Dodo. “So I got him a blanket, went into the enclosure and put the blanket in one of the corners. He curled up on that blanket and he went right to sleep. Ever since then, I always give him a blanket.”

Now, Lambert is 2 years old and still lives under the care of Keahey because he couldn’t survive in the wild. “He has 7,000 sq. ft. worth of space to run around in, which includes a covered den area for shade and protection from the weather and a sunny, grassy playground with the pool he loves to play in,” Culver added. “He is just like any other 2 year-old lion in that he is active and playful, and is full of cattitude. You know where you stand with him.”

LambertWe are getting a LOT of rain today! Some of the tigers seem to enjoy playing in it, but the lions primarily stay tucked in their cozy dens during wet weather. Little Lambert really doesn’t like the sound of all the rain, so Vicky tossed him a fresh blanky to play with, he’s now a very happy little boy!

It's a shame the owners didn't keep him, at least until he was old enough and big enough to tear them all limb from limb. Stupid f*cking idiots.

It just baffles me how selfish some people are. And how indulgent they are with their children. The world is breeding a pack of sociopaths & Antichrists.

Just curious. Since he's been taken illegally, does it mean no legal action toward the owners (both previous and current)?

VERY cute lion and hopefully he'll have a better life with proper care. I dread to think what those special snowflakes got as a pet after watching Jurassic Park...... idiots. Get a stuffed toy like normal people!

It's lovely what the new owner is doing, but I think he would be better off in a reputable zoo with other lions for company. And even more space.

A "reputable zoo"? Did you not read the story that came with the pictures? The new owner is actually a rescue facility just for lions. This means there are other lions there and there is a LOT of land zoned for him to frolic in (they say the actual size above). How is that "lesser" than tiny encaged "caves" in a zoo where hoards of people go through screaming, laughing, and throwing scraps illegally over the barriers?

Did the people that caused him to be poached from his pride and native lands even spend time in jail?? Doubtful. If people would stop and think!! Seriously. He's a wild animal for a reason. My kids wanted one too when they were little. I got one for them.... It was stuffed. I got another one for them. It was mechanical. I got one more for them. It was a movie. Everything I did for my kids went to a cause. Like stopping stupid asses from purchasing them for real and ruining the balance of the ecosystem they are supposed to survive in!! I HATE people that think it's ok just because they believe they are entitled to something that has been stated over and over again for REALLY GOOD REASON by a group that KNOWS what they are talking about!! Most do it because they think the rules don't apply to them!! it was because f people like them we even needed these rules in the first freakin place.

It sickens me when people buy exotic, wild animals and keep as pets or at shopping malls. It's not a civilized country.

I am wondering if they got him before he was weaned. I have had kittens do the same thing with a blanket when their Mom wasn't there. He was kneading with his paws and sucking on the blanket.

He's so adorable. We have a Pomeranian dog who is 1 1/2 yrs old. We got him at 14 weeks and he would sleep in a baby play cot to begin with. Along with his blanket toys puppy pad and water we gave him a stuffed toy dog to cuddle. Almost from the start he would lay partly on the dog and do what the lion was doing, needing and suckling on a front paw he would do this a number of times through out the day. He still has his puppy and he still does this usually certain times during the day. It's always the same paw even when we wash it. He is very attached to the puppy, he uses his puppy as if it was his mum giving him security and comfort. He is a very intelligent little guy and well adjusted. I guess they are best buds for life. Adorable!❤️

Well you can be rich and dumb. Too much Money is the worst thing in the world. So many animals are left to die after Xmas holidays, because nobody in the family want's to take care of the poor soul. Humans are just a bunch of selfish nitwits.

What is the future for this gorgeous boy?? He is not accustomed to the wild life, it is unlikely he will meet another of his kind, no one is likely to adopt him like a dog or a cat. A life of solitude in a cage. I wish those rich f*****s thought about this before! Humans are such d***s!

Its all about instant gratification isn't it? "Get it now" with no thought of the consequences tomorrow or thereafter. Although this case is extreme, the same story happens to puppies, kittens, etc. which end up in shelters or on the street the world over.

They need "wildlife education" in schools too! On how to use your brain and NOT mess around with nature. This lion was fortunate to find a good home when he couldn't be rehabilitated... there must be so many that are just used for trapped gaming where people like "the Dentist" pay to shoot animals.
