My name is Lucas Turnbloom and I am a cartoonist from Southern California.

Last year, I went through the process of cat adoption. She’s a very sweet kitty cat, but she’s also a little, well... crazy. So, I decided to turn the funny cats' shenanigans into a webcomic called "How to Cat".

The funny comic was originally intended to be an inside joke for my wife and me, but she insisted that I put it on the internet and share the silly cat with the world. My first cute drawings were previously featured on Bored Panda.

People seem to enjoy the adventures of "Sweetie" the cute cat. I hope you do too!

when i was 16 my cat brought one of the rabbits from my neighbour. i was mortified but quickly climbed over the fence, cleaned the dead rabbit from dirt and put it back in the enclosure. a few days later the neighbour told my mum how the craziest Thing happened..... one of the rabbits died of old age and she burried it..and a day later it was laying in the enclosure, completly cleaned. she now believes that she had some Kind of Jesus-rabbit.

This is a very American thing I have no idea why you guys do this? In the UK we dont do it at all just get a scratching post.

Lisa Florina

In Holland we dont do it either. Mine goes outside a lot and uses trees and stuf and needs it to defend himself or to Klime. Trimming de nails is like amputating fingers for humans!

Trimming a cats nails!? Do you also shave them, so they dont leave hair on precious furniture? Wtf.

Emily Aldan
Community Member

If you don't trim a cat's nails, when they get older, the nail can grow into the pad of the paw. I have had 2 cats that this happened to. It's really painful for the cats. The best thing you can do is trim. (Also, there is one cat we have to shave because she doesn't clean her bottom and bathroom stuff gets stuck in her long fur. She also gets mats and hates being combed to prevent them. Shaving can also be a necessity for some cats).

Pro tip: get them stoned on catnip first and get it some goddamn mats to scratch on.

Which is why you only do a paw at a time (or possibly a nail at a time depending on their mood)

Emily Aldan

There is this cat bag on Amazon that I use for my cat. I stick her in the bag and can remove one paw at a time to clip. It's the only way I'm able to clip. I know that putting a cat in the bag can be difficult, but grabbing the cat by the nap of the neck usually makes them still enough.

why would you trim your cats nails ? i mean if they scratch on trees, Wood, other hard surfaces they normally wont Need it. it just causes them a lot of stress. :/

Emily Aldan

I started to trim my cats nails when the nail became so long that it grew into the pad of her foot. Now when I hear the click clicks as she walks, she gets a nail trimming. I use a groomer bag to make it easier.

Yes. Mine always has dry food in her bowl but always insists that I pet her or at least stand next to her while she eats, including every night sometimes at about 3am, and about 10 minutes later when I'm back in bed she wants me to let her out :/ (and later my aunt lets her back in and she climbs on my chest ... there are almost no entirely peaceful - or lonely - nights for me). And yes, she sometimes simply walks away from the food after asking for me to come, even if I give her fresh food and give in and pet her waiting for her to eat. She just sniffs the food and enjoys the pets and then walks away. She also doesn't like to be pet when eating wet food or anything else than dry food but still wants me to stand next to her. And sometimes after she asks for it and I give her fresh wet food she also just sniffs it and walks away, only not as often as with dry food. She's complicated and picky but I love her.
