Being born is a lot like rolling up a character in an RPG, but instead of magical powers and divine gifts from the gods, we tend to get muggle-worthy stuff like uncle Roger’s elaborate eyelashes and great-grandma Betsy’s charming smile. However… How-e-ver!
From time to time, the Universe gets lazy and decides to reuse old assets, copy-pasting the same genetic information. It might think that nobody will notice because it’s been at least one generation since it’s used that particular genetic code, but it’s darn wrong. That’s how people end up looking so much like their relatives, it’s spooky and has us wondering about secret government cloning facilities (the truth is out there!).
The r/AncestryDNA subreddit is a place for people to share their heritage and genetic ancestry, as well as to document how you might be the spitting image of your relatives, some of whom might still be alive while others lived hundreds of years ago. Check the photos people posted to the community down below and, as you’re scrolling down, upvote the ones that impressed you the most. Be sure to write a comment or two about who you resemble the most in your families, dear Pandas!

Founded in the summer of 2017, the ‘AncestryDNA’ subreddit boasts 31.7k members, but has only 2 moderators. In our experience, that’s a sign that the community is very friendly and that the mods are able to keep everything in check without any additional help.
The rules there are pretty self-explanatory: be civil, don’t advertise random stuff. The subreddit also asks that its members don’t have others play ‘guess my ethnicity’ games, as there’s a megathread on another Reddit community dedicated to that. Bored Panda has reached out to both the r/AncestryDNA team, as well as the ‘Ancestry DNA’ firm for further comments and to confirm whether the two are directly linked or if the subreddit is a fan project.

It’s not just our immediate family members that look just like us, however. Strangers can look identical to us, too. Many of us have had the uncanny realization that we've seen our doppelganger whether on the street or on our TV screens. It might not be a wacky coincidence, however. Geneticist Arthur Beaudet from the Baylor College of Medicine said that “people who look identical almost certainly share more DNA than two random strangers who don’t look alike.”
In other words, if you ever meet a person who has an uncanny resemblance to you, say ‘hi’ because they might be your long-lost cousin (or a clone, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves). Meanwhile, I’m just hoping that Keanu Reeves and I are actually related. That would be… breathtaking.

My Parents & Me. When I Was Growing Up My Mom Used To Get Asked If She Was The Babysitter Or Nanny. Everyone Assumed That Because She’s Afro-Latina And I Didn’t Have Big Curly Hair Or Tanned Skin Before Puberty
This is a bit sad, but relatable. My husband is White, and our daughter looks A LOT like him, with skin much fairer than mine. I have been asked "Aw, she is so pretty, whose is she?"...assuming she is not mine due to my brown skin. It hurts a bit at first, but most dont mean it maliciously, and you learn to brush it off. Lovely family!
